We had a wonderful time in Obidos staying in Maria's home. The descrition and pictures are very accurate for what you will find: charming, comfortable, very clean, and a great value.
Maria (and her family) went well out of their way to accommodate us. Her cousin waited for us at the bus stop for over an hour when we were delayed and didn't have access to cell communication.
Maria was very warm and helpful - showing us to the nearest shop where we could buy bread and offering to pick up anything we needed at the larger supermarcado - a short walk outside of the walled part of they city - as we didn't have a car. We arrived late on the off-season and few shops were open. She brought us bread, coffee, and stocked the refrigerator with other things to eat.
Before arriving I had two minor concerns: 1) would the space be too large for only two people? and 2) would it be private enough with the hosts living next door? Neither of these turned out to be problematic. The apartment was comfortable for two, but could easily fit more. We had complete privacy and the apartment was a wonderful place to relax and rest.
Obidos itself is very charming. We enjoyed walking the perimeter along the wall and through the cobblestoned streets. It seems like a good place from which to take day trips, but a car would be helpful. Local buses are possible, but often a bit complicated. The tourist office is very helpful.
Extremely friendly reception by the delightful Maria, into her v lovely home, which was spacious , beautifully decorated and very conveniently located. Despite it being a tourist town the house was v quiet.
Had a great meal at the unassumingly named 'snack bar' next to the mausoleum- like church outside town. Portuguese clientele, good food and v reasonable price.
We loved staying in Maria's apartment in Obidos! It has such a homely feel with lots of unique furniture and objects dotted around the room. All the rooms look really nice and the apartment has all the things you need.
The town of Obidos is very picturesque and it was lovely to stroll around it during the day and the evenings (when the day trip tourists have gone). We recommend a walk along the town wall, which offers some amazing views over the town and the surrounding area.
There are a number of restaurants in town, so you have plenty of choice to go out for a meal. But it's also great to stay in and cook yourself in the kitchen of the apartment (really good size, and all the equipment is there). There is a supermaket located near the main car park (5 min. drive).
Also make sure you check out the two book shops in town, one in a church and the other in a converted barn. Really quite quirky.
Maria is a lovely host who came to meet us outside the town wall and then showed us a space where we could park our car (free, only 2 min. walk from the apartment). She showed us round the apartment and made us feel very welcome and at home.
We would recommend staying here, as it's a lovely location and conveniently located for exploring the area (Leiria, Peniche, Altobaca) and it's very easy to get to from Lisbon airport (50 min. drive).

My wife and I, our daughter, her husband and their 2 ½ year old stayed at Maria’s home for 8 nights last week. Finding the house would be very difficult for a first time visitor to Obidos so Maria met us just outside of town at a designated time and led us through the narrow winding streets to her home where we unloaded our car. Our typical parking place was just outside the walls of this lovely medieval town. This required an uphill climb for about 5 minutes each time we came home, but the hike was well worth it. The house was 3 bedrooms, two baths (one with a stall shower, one shower over tub) and comfortably slept 5 in two double beds and a single. The kitchen was fully equipped, there was free Wi-Fi and a living/dining area. Everything was very clean and the entire experience was extremely comfortable. We truly enjoyed living within the walls of this historic and picturesque medieval town. A couple of restaurants within walking distance were very enjoyable. We spent the last two days enjoying ourselves within the walls and experiencing this friendly and beautiful town.
As comfy as the home was, Maria was an even better host. She provided us with a bottle of wine, coffee and a few other staples to get us started. When we asked how to get to the supermarket, she took our daughter in her car and went shopping with her as well as giving great suggestions on some local products. How many hosts would do that for you? Maria’s mother and sister live next door and Maria was also there most of the time we were in Obidos. This made asking questions (which we inevitably had) extremely easy. We never felt like we were imposing on her and she always proved to be both very friendly as well as helpful. This was a great stay!! If we are ever in Obidos again, we will surely try to rent Maria’s home.
Maria's house in Obidos was very charming, clean and in a great location. Maria and her friend Jose were very helpful in meeting us, and we're very responsive when we had some problems with the electricity. They had people out to look at it within minutes, and then had an electrician come out that night to fix it! We were very impressed with their speedy response. The only reason I gave it a forster is because it happened to be very cold when we were in obidos and with the electricity issue, we could just not get warm. Otherwise our experience was great and I would stay again!
Really good place to stay: nice house (very well equipped), excellent situated, really friendly host. Whenever we will be back in this area of Portugal, we will try to reserve this house again!!!
Carmo's house is gorgeous and very well maintained. Moreover, it's right in the center of the historical town, one minute away from the main street where you can find little groceries shops and restaurants.
Carmo was away during my stay but she was absolutely thoughtful and had her friend arranging everything for my stay. She sent me a quite comprehensive list of places to visit in the region, including the most beautiful beaches.
I had a nice bottle of wine waiting for me on my arrival and some goodies for breakfast in the fridge.
