Interaction with Guests

I live IN North beach as well and will usually will be the one to personally do 'house calls' if there are any issues.
I also have a partner who also lives in the neighborhood, and is available if for some reason I'm not in the area.

The Neighborhood

“A neighborhood like North Beach is a rare thing. It manages to be a perennial hit with tourists as well as remain beloved by San Franciscans. It is best known as “Little Italy” and of all the neighborhoods in San Francisco, North Beach feels most like New York. The bustling sidewalls filled with tables of diners chowing down on pizza and fried calamari, the small, quirky specialty shops, and the plethora of bakeries, delis and old fashioned bars combine in a vibrant, changing neighborhood.” SF.- Chronicle.

Getting around

Public Transit - There is an abundance of Public Transit around Washington Square block, that is 1.5 block away. Our building is SUPER lucky enough to be SO CLOSE to public transit, but to not actually have ANY BUS LINES on our street - allowing for undisturbed sleep :) Take my advice as a local, to live smack in the middle of it all - AND not having busses coming and going every 5 minutes (or less), is GREAT!
Car Rental - I always highly recommend any one visiting San Francisco, to skip the car rental. Parking in the ENTIRE city is scarce, expensive, and more of an inconvenience. Yet we are just 2 blocks from 24 hour parking garages that are $20-$25/night depending on the size of your car. The closest one being just under 2 blocks from our building.
ZipCar - But if did need a car for a day, or a drive to the infamous Haight, or spending a day in Sonoma, we are located to 10+ zipcar/ride share hubs.
Cabs - If you call a cab to come pick you up, they will not come most likely. Just thought you would appreciate the FYI. You will most likely want to get these free apps - zipcar , relayrides , or uber. These companies more reliable, and even cheaper most times.

Other Things to Note

To support a sustainable world, and reflect the values of San Francisco and guests, we use non-intrusive, high quality, eco-friendly products and services in our apartment. The unit itself is equipped with the water efficient Geberit wall-hung toilet units, double pane - sound and energy efficient windows, and privacy "bottom-up" energy efficient window coverings. This apartment truly is the "Essence of San Francisco." We look forward to having you in our home!

  • This was a great stay in The North Beach area of San Francisco. Everything was as depicted and only three minutes walk (admittedly a steep walk!) to Coit Tower and amazing views of the San Francisco Bay.

There are some amazing amenities to the property including the airplay speakers which stream your audio from an Apple device like an iPhone. As a non-techie I didn't think this would matter but in fact it helped a lot as we were studying for a test and music helped us stay calm during our visit.

The kitchen was excellent and if only we had time to cook more all the facilities were there. The bathroom is very spacious and beautiful shower and tub . Only comment might be that the foldout couch is a good foldout couch but nothing more than that. The bedroom is great and quite spacious.

I would highly recommend this stay as especially close to the North Beach area as well as a quiet neighborhood.

  • Very nice apartment! the neighbourhood is very quiet and colorful, you can walk around for amazing views of SF. Pretty far away from the business center, but that is what makes it so good! The apartment itself was very clean, and had everything that we needed.

  • Eli was very responsive prior to arrival and tried to accomodate my flying schedule with the check in time. Elis appartment is extremely well located. Awesome neighborhood, cool & tasty restaurants and cafes in walking distance. I totally recommend it, we had an awesome time!

  • Everything went smoothly. Coded entry allowed for a late arrival. The flat was clean and well furnished. Nicely appointed. Would stay there again!

  • Truly great apartment in a terrific location just below Coit Tower. Easy walk to the Powell/Mason Cable Car Line, shorter walk to shops restaurants and cool neighborhood of North Beach. Breakfast at Mama's highly recommended. The apartment was well designed, luxurious, quiet, comfortable and spacious.

  • This was my first time using airbnb. Eli's communication was great for a first timer. The place was perfect, as was the location.

  • I'm writing this review for my parents, who stayed here for a week while visiting me. I spent a fair amount of time at the place too.

The apartment is as appears in the pictures - very modern, almost corporate feeling. There is a nice television with AppleTV and surround sound. The location of the apartment is fantastic. If you haven't visited SF before, this is in the heart of North Beach/Telegraph Hill and walkable to a number of the best parts of the city. Close to great food (Mama's, Tavern, Tony's), close to a Washington Sq. Park, and walkable to Pier 39, the Marina, Embarcadero, Little Italy, Chinatown, FiDi. For someone spending just a few days in SF, and looking for a convenient place to stay, its a great choice.

For my parents, however, it wasn't such a good choice, as they were looking for something comfy and homey where they could spend a week. The apartment is on the small side with really only one place to relax (couch) and zero outside area. It is a corporate-rental apartment so there is nothing there - no basic food supplies (spices, oil, vinegar, etc.), no toiletries (not even mini shampoo/soap), no nothing. I wasn't expecting a lot, but given they were staying for a week ($2k+), some basic toiletries, paper towels, maybe a welcome bottle of wine, would've been nice. Further, and most importantly, the place doesn't really have any charm - which is almost difficult to do in a city chocked full of charming apartments. I've stayed in probably a dozen airbnb's all over the world and this one had the least character of any of them. My parents also said the bed was not comfortable and sloped towards the middle.

Eli was very helpful with everything, though its clearly not her (or anyone's) apartment, so she had no incentive to really provide a "welcome" or introduce herself and the neighborhood. All in all, it just felt very commercial, not at all welcoming, and very different from the other airbnb experiences I've had. After telling my parents what a great idea airbnb was, and setting them up with this place which they found rather cold and wholly without amenities or character, I doubt they will use the service again.

    Response from Eli:

    Hi Kevin,

I'm terribly sorry your parents didn't have a great experience staying with us. Thank you for your recommendations, as we have ordered a new bed and ordered spice racks for the kitchen! Thank you for this feedback!

I do hope you're parents do try airbnb, because it's a wonderful website to find unique apartments in great local neighborhoods. I sad to hear you and your parents found our unit commercial and unwelcoming. Luckily, ALL of our previous guests have claimed nothing of the sort and have give us GREAT reviews, and highly recommending us to their friends and family to stay with us in the future. I'm sad you won't be one of them.

In regards to providing basic toiletries, I'm unclear why your parents would say there were none because we *DO* and DID in-fact provide ALL of the above, including Toilet Paper, Paper towels, hand soap, in addition to dish soap, detergent, trash bags, 2 sets of sheets, an ironing board, and iron. Our kitchen also has creme and sugar for the coffee maker, along with cooking oil. We do not provide shampoo or conditioner unless requested, because the amount of small plastic containers we'd go through are bad for the environment. I'm also sorry if you expected an outdoor area, but it clearly states in our description that we don't have this, so it seems a big unfair to be disappointed in something we did not claim to have.

Thank you for your review as we appreciate all of our guests feedback as it helps us to provide better service for our future guests!

  • My 10 year old daughter and I just had a fabulous spring break vacation staying at Eli's gorgeous rental. We hated to leave and couldn't wait to get back to the apartment each night after full days of enjoying the city. We cooked several nights and loved all the amenities. This was in a perfect central location - close walking distance to so many things. We rarely took public transportation. I loved walking out the front door and having the city right at our feet. I was able to take morning runs along the Embarcadero and come back to brew a pot of coffee before heading out for our day.

Trader Joes and Safeway just a short walk away on the corners of Mason & Bay along with the neighborhood corner markets.

Check out Mario's Cigar Shop - great local bar/cafe right in Washington Square. We had dinner al fresco one evening at Calzones and desert from Victoria Bakery on the square.

We can't wait to return and loved this place!!

I'm originally from Texas, but have lived in San Francisco for over 10 years now. I love art, jogging the embarcadero, learning new things, and sharing great experiences with my friends and family. I couldn't ask for anything more in San Francisco, from great healthy food, always having something to do, and a story at every corner!
