Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Great host! Nice place!

  • Gary's spot was extremely comfortable (Tempurpedic!) and clean. Located just off Market and near great shopping. Checking in and out was simple and enjoyable. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Ideal host: Efficient, accommodating, friendly, and his room was clean and safe.

  • Close to downtown, but a little bit noisy at night (something like huge dishwashers work at night from restaurant downstairs which makes walls vibrate). Gary was super friendly and gave us everything we needed for our stay. Also a bit scary to go out after 10pm since exit through restaurant is closed at that time so you have to exit through the backstreet.

  • Gary was very nice and helpful when we arrived. His place is clean and comfortable. We had a very pleasant stay and would recommend to others. Thanks, Gary!

  • Gary was very nice but I would not go back. The apartment was in a very scary area. The street where the "front door" stinks like pee and there are very many homeless hanging around. To leave out the front you have to walk through a Chinese Restaurant's kitchen and the table area. Very odd. I planned on sleeping on the futon (very lumpy to even sit on) and there was no extra blankets or anything to use. No washcloth, shower soap or anything, just two towels and bath mat. The place was clean but there was no window or smoke detector to be seen.
    The whole thing was odd.

  • Gary was a great host and very helpful. Good location to all the things we needed to do. Would definitely book there again.

  • The house was fantastic, Gary was very accommodating! If you want some good food places to visit Gary is your man! He knows everything from all you can eat $13 sushi to along the drive cafés through to la. Pleasure to deal with! The only downside was the homeless on the street - but that's San Fran for you!!

  • Gary was a great host, clean towels were provided mid stay and he checked in during the week to make sure everything was ok. The listing describes "Private luxury loft", when it's more like a hotel room - you have your own bathroom (great!) but no windows (offset by a great skylight!). The pricing is good though.

Location: just be aware. While I didn't feel unsafe (I've stayed around here before!) the smells in the street at the back can be... off putting. Such a short walk to the BART meant I used that (despite two suitcases!) to get to and from the airport.

Chinese restaurant below serves a decent bbq pork noodle soup too.

  • The host, Gary, was very pleasant and quick to respond to inquiries. He was waiting for us right outside the subway station when we arrived in the city (coming from SFO), and took us to the apartment, which was clean and safe. Two fresh towels were available. The shower felt great. There aren't windows, but some natural light does come down through a sort of portal through the ceiling, so that's a nice morning treat. We had one key for getting into the building, and then the actual door is accessed by punching in a personal code.

The area, yes, the area is... as others have said. Since we arrived after 10PM, Gary did recommend that we just order pizza, but we try to avoid gluten and noticed that there were some taco places in the area still open at that time. So we ventured out, and... it was pretty scary. There's a lot of visible poverty once you go north of the apartment a couple blocks (though, also a to-die-for doughnut place! "California Bakery"!), and we did get our tacos in the end. But even the street outside the apartment's back entrance does have a noticeable pee smell.

No smell in the actual place we stayed at, though!
