Very nice communicative host with comfortable and clean accommodation. Centrally located and convenient to most SF attractions. Entrance to building may be intimidating for those not street wise as the neighborhood seems to attract undesirable characters. Overall, recommended for those looking for clean, comfortable, central and affordable accommodation and who are not afraid to take a walk on the wild side.
Overall. Great location and awesome host. Gary helped with findings around the city and anything we needed to make our stay comfortable.
My boyfriend and I decided to make a last minute trip to San Francisco and we needed a place to crash for a night. Gary responded to my request very quickly and the transaction went completely smooth. We got in very late on Thursday night and we had no problems 'checking in.' The room is very clean, the shower was great and the bed is pretty comfortable. I would definitely recommend staying here if you're looking for a place to crash for a few nights. It was a very cool environment and a quick walk to union square. Gary also gave us directions to a secure parking garage half a block away.
I have mixed feelings about the experience. Gary was responsive, courteous and accommodating. The room itself was adequate and clean. The location, while convenient to the BART and walking distance to the outstanding Hayes Valley area, is surrounded in a 3 block radius by a seedier element.
Expect human feces in close proximity to the entrance, and a persistent urine smell in the allow and hallway. I can overlook these things for the value presented, but my wife was skeeved and my brother who lives nearby insistent we take Flywheel at night to return. As others have reviewed, the Chinese restaurant entrance can add or subtract from the experience, depending on your perspective.
All in all, expect some compromises with the low price, and decide what is truly important to your stay. Obviously, do not bring children.
This was a very fun experience. The location was in the middle of the city. Very close to the elective street car and the main shopping locations. My wife and I felt safe and comfortable and Gary was a great host.
great location, great mattress, spacy room and very nice host. As the other reviewers pointed out, the access thru the back alley can be a little frightening at night but area looked safe to me. Just have to get used to may homeless. Great breakfast place just down the street: Dotties
Great location, Gary is a very good host and the room was as advertised.
the room was exactly as advertised - clean, well appointed and centrally located. the bed was also INCREDIBLY comfortable, and the whole thing felt similar to a hotel room, except without most amenities such as soap or shampoo (bring/buy your own). while the place is right downtown and very close to all public transportation, the area can feel pretty seedy, especially at night (and especially when entering from stevenson street where there's a locked door/grate but no interior door), so just be aware before booking. the other entrance requires that you walk through a chinese restauran on market st; we loved this little tidbit, but again just be aware, as it is slightly unusual! the food looked great though :)
gary was highly responsive and very helpful. the last thing to remember is that while this FEELS in some ways like a hotel, it's not - so no front desk or central area in which to safely leave your bags if you're checking out early but staying in the city as we were for example.
these details are easily worked around but since i rely heavily on airbnb reviews, just wanted to be thorough. overall a great stay!
The room was great - just like the pictue - no windows but small skylight in ceiling - a little odd to get to but the building is secure - avoid Stevenson St until you get to 7th - just walk up Market - would stay here again - great for NYE right near our event!
The room was very nice and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Gary was very friendly and accommodating, and helpful with directions/transportation options throughout the city. The entrance and exit was a little odd, as you either have to go through the Chinese restaurant downstairs through a long hallway, or enter through the back. The building seems to be in a safe location though as it across from the court house/government building. Overall was perfect for what we needed it for!
