Christina's accusations are directly linked to my having called her attention to her lack of following the rules set out clearly in the house manual as well as going over them upon her arrival. The most egregious dereliction was telling me that she understood the difference between garbage, clean recycling and compost. Their actions demonstrated that they clearly had a very limited understanding of these concepts. Either that, or they simply decided that it didn't matter. They denied and refuted all of the documented stains on the towels, sheet and sofa cushion, which I was careful to photograph before laundering. If I weren't the only person laundering, cleaning and painstakingly scrubbing stains out of fabrics and surfaces that weren't there before their stay, Christine might have a leg to stand on. However, this is not the case. I carefully clean every inch of the home and make all the beds, wash and fold all of the linens and make sure the house is held to the highest standards of cleanliness. Apparently, she feels she has the right to accuse me of not being aware of the "preexisting stains". However, this is not the truth. It has become increasingly disappointing to learn that in our present society, a strategy of denial and refutation have become successful tactics when it comes to not telling the truth or accepting your transgressions and offering an apology. It wouldn't be helpful to any of us to go through and document each problem I uncovered subsequent to their leaving, because there were so many more than I have listed already.
I can only imagine that either they are completely oblivious to what it means to be a respectful guest in a person's home or they don't feel that their actions have any consequences. Or they can just deny that it ever happened.
In any case, I hope they are able to take away a learning opportunity from this experience as I have.
By the way, 11:00 am is the check-out time. If you had read the manual you would have been able to prepare accordingly. As it was, I allowed you an extra 15 minutes to get your things together. AirBnb did make a scheduling mistake with your reservation, allowing you to book the same day as a previously booked guest. I spoke with them and told them I could make it work if I hired someone to help me. They agreed that the scheduling error was due to a computer glitch on their part and they agreed to pay for the cleaning service that would normally not be required.
The brown stain on the sheet was made by you. It was coffee.
