This was our first Airbnb, it was the right place for us, quite, clean & well situated for touring the island. It was nice to retreat to the cool of Wiame at the end of the day. Barrie was friendly & accommodating.

Our experience at this location was not a pleasant one. During our vacation in Hawaii we stayed in 4 different places, but this one was quite disappointing. Although the location in Waimea is really nice, this place had issues with cleanliness: linens with pet hair were provided initially, but changed the next day at our request; we have seen kitchen roaches several times, placed traps for roaches, lots of heavy dust around the sleeping area and overall unpleasant smell. Took pictures and shared them with Barrie, but she refused to acknowledge the cleanliness issues. Also, delayed responses from Barrie, added uncertainty and tense moments on what was supposed to be a relaxing stay.

My husband and I just got back from our first visit to Hawaii, which also happened to be our first experience with Airbnb. We spent the first three nights at the Brazilian Pepper Suite (the remaining three at another Airbnb in Volcano), and we really enjoyed it! We arrived late-ish in the evening, and Barrie was waiting for us with the lights on to make sure we had arrived OK. The kitchen was stocked with several supplies that helped us fix our first dinner and breakfast (cans of Spam, tuna, tomato sauce, a frozen pizza, bread, coffee, half-n-half, a loaf of bread, etc.), which was very thoughtful of her! Barrie’s house is just what you see from the photos – there may have been a change in the shade of paint, but other than that it all looks just the same! It has an open layout which makes it feel spacious and airy, it has a very comfortable bed (it is quite elevated, so keep this in mind if you have any mobility issues), a daybed that is awesome for siestas, a round table next to the sliding doors that open on to the small lanai (where there is also a small table and chairs), a very nice desk/writing area under a window that overlooks the garden, and a very comfortable kitchen that is stocked with everything you need, from pots and pans to Ziploc bags and rolls of aluminum foil. At the time of our visit there was no microwave oven, but there was a toaster oven and almost any other appliance you might need, plus a full-size fridge and a four-burner stove top. The bathroom is very comfortable and has a lot of built-in shelves to keep your toiletries handy. The shower was great (wonderful temperature and powerful flow) and there was a good supply of towels. The only small “issue” we had was that when we arrived the bathroom sink was badly clogged with something that had fallen into the drain. By the time we let Barrie know (the following day) she was no longer in the area, but she gave us the green light to try to fix it on our own if we didn’t want to wait. So we did, by scooping out the obstruction, and problem solved! The house was clean and well stocked with most everything you might need, though we did not get a chance to use more than a few of items. We saw an iron, an ironing board, a vacuum cleaner, a beach chair and a bodyboard, a small TV and a nice Bluetooth speaker, among others. The neighborhood is very quiet, and even though there is a house right next to the apartment, we never heard a noise or saw anybody. We woke up every day to the sound of birds singing outside the window, which was beautiful. The location worked wonderfully for us, and from here we easily drove to North Kohala, the beach resorts and Mauna Kea....

WOW, what a delight! I absolutely fell in love with "my home away from home" and Waimea. The location of Barrie's home was ideal for me, as my son was living in Honoka'a and a dear friend in Hilo. We also explored 90% of the island as our day trips and beach days were planned out and were simply lovely. One day @ Beach 69, another day to Pololu Lookout, another to Volcano National Park, Hilo/Puna, and many more! Barrie's home/Waimea was cooler in the eve and morns but wonderful to get away from the heat of the day...sleeping was truly a blessing! The Airbnb had every amenity you could think of from beach towels/chairs to a much needed "church key" after a day @ the beach! Kitchen supplies whether you just wanted coffee in the morning or cooking a full meal on the stove were abundant. I could go on and on but honestly, IT JUST A TREAT! Enjoy your stay, I can't wait to return in July 2017.

Barrie's place was spotless when we arrived, and she was (is!) a total sweetheart leaving us some morning coffee, fruit and muffins knowing we were getting in late. Barrie is truly warm and congenial - an A+ host and human being! The flat was comfortable and totally equipped. Beds were fantastic. Was great to be in peaceful Waimea with cooler eves after hotter days exploring the coast and higher elevations.

Overall, this was an excellant place for a couple. Adequately appointed and excellant shower. We arrived after dark and had some difficulty climbing the steep driveway w/heavy bags in the dark. Excellant location to the town of Wiamea including a number of excellant restaurants and shops. Cool evenings allowed comfortable sleep w/all windows open. Crickets, birds and Roosters in the morning. Good access to north and northwest shores. Comforatble bed, although my wife had some trouble @ night dismounting to go the the bathroom as she's short. Barrie was helpful in loaning a bow drier when the new one failed to work. Nice beach towels, beach chair (1) and boogie board. Excellant privacy. Would stay here again

I have lived on the Big Island of Hawaii for 35 years and have chosen the best place on the island to live and offer accommodations to travelers. I can offer you insights on where to go and what is important to see while here on the island. An entrepreneur I have MANY interests from sustainability, to designing and decorating homes, gardening, and healthy living in general. My 2 daughters were born here on the Big Island where they love to return and bring all of their friends to share their most favorite beaches and adventures. As a realtor I know the different micro-climates & communities of the island extremely well and should you have an interest in re-locating to this island I would be happy to assist. I couldn't possibly live without clean air, pure water, sunshine and great community! When I go "holo holo" for a few days I choose either Volcano or Kapoho as my favorite little get-away places on the island.
