Is there a way to enter a thousand stars? Manuel and his family are awesome, and they made my stay wonderful. I had unforeseen medical issues while I was in Portugal, so couldn't walk around Porto during the windy winter days I spent there, but Manuel was kind to take me around town for a very reasonable fee and I could see all the major points of the city, which is stunning. He went above and beyond my expectations to make me feel at home during my stay, even assisting me to get medical care when I needed it (getting sick during your vacation is never fun, especially when you're not in your country). His wife Tereza is a great cook, so I'd highly recommend booking a traditional Portuguese meal with her. The room is very spacious, comfortable, clean, and the shower has great water pressure, plus you also get a superb view of Porto from their wide living room window. If you decide to explore the city on your own, the location is close enough to public transportation, so you can easily go to downtown Porto from there. I would not think twice about staying at Manuel's place (I am seriously planning to come back in the future for another visit.)
We had a lovely stay with Manuel! He was a fantastic host, eager to share information about what is clearly his favorite place on Earth! I would recommend him to anyone!
If your visiting Portugal then Porto is a must see place and if your visiting Porto then Manuel's is a must-stay for Airbnb fans. A very generous and genuine host, Manuel offers a quality apartment room and private bathroom in his family home in a great location with fantastic views. His welcome and fully detailed brief of Porto, which included maps, and great advice that only a local could give was perfectly complimented with a glass of quality port. Manuel was great to communicate with and was always readily available for us as guests. A delicious breakfast was provided daily to set you up for your days activities, we could have easily stayed longer. A five star experience and highly recommended.
A very welcoming host and a large suite in a lovely, clean family home with a breathtaking view across the city and the ocean (from the living room).
We stayed four nights at Manuel's and Teresa's. We had a wonderful experience there. The suite and private bathroom are just perfect: spacious, clean with full of light, and everything you need (even a hairdryer). The whole apartment is lovely, faithful to the pics on the website. The view on Porto and the Douro River is breathtaking. Teresa's breakfast was excellent: great coffee, milk, orange juice, bread, butter, home-made succulent jams, cheese and mortadelle. A delight and copious enough to go on with the day.
But more than anything, Manuel and Teresa were perfect. Manuel came to pick us up at the airport on our arrival, gave us the best cards and advice to the city, which means we didn't waste time exploring Porto and its beautiful sites. We took advantage of Manuel's "a day in porto" touristic offer and didn't regret it. We explored the city together which was great and the ultimate experience was to share the dinner with him and his family (we'll never forget it). Teresa made us discover a succulent codfish gratin and a dessert made of pumpkin and fresh chease: delicious!!! We also had sardine toasts as a starter, which were equally excellent. Manuel and Teresa and their sons + son's friend were so nice and welcoming, always there to help and make us discover their beautiful country.
Teresa and Manuel make the perfect team, each doing a job that is different but equally important.
We would never have had such an unforgettable experience without Manuel and his family. A big thank you for such a great time in Porto.
Muito obrigada/o a todos !!!!!!!
Manuel made my visit to Porto truly wonderful. Staying here you get more than a room, you get the number one tour guide in Porto (maybe all of Portugal). The room was immaculate and the bathroom was extremely clean.
The location is three metro stops from all the tourist action by the river. If you don't know Porto (as I did not), there is the very touristy area in Porto, the Duoro River and then Gaia (where the port cellars are). Manuel's apartment is 3 stops from all the touristy stuff in a lovely little neighborhood. It is a beautiful walk to the port cellars or to the tourist area. The breakfast is very very simple - bread, cheese and jam. The coffee was delicious.
I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Porto. The entire experience was wonderful and my trip would NOT have been nearly as wonderful without the graciousness of Manuel and family. If you go to Porto, you would be stupid to stay anywhere else.
P.S. Eat at Cafe Miraporto - it is a hidden gem that overlooks Porto from Gaia!
Great stay at manuel's flat. Warm welcome, nice talks, wonderful flat...
I clearly recommand it !
My wife and I spent 4 days in Manuel Guimaraes*s "Big Suite", and we can only say that it was a very comfortable and nice stay in a quiet place. The breakfast was fine and fresh. We were kindly received and had some very good advice to sites and restaurants in Porto. There were about 20 min's walk down to the river and about 12 min's to the metro. We enjoyed our stay a lot and will give the best recommendations.
We had an excellent stay in Porto. Porto is an authentic city which really deserves the visit. In one week, we did not have time to be bored there. Manuel's room is of high-quality: very spacious, with one very beautiful view on the city, quiet, clean. All you need is there : hairdryer, soaps... The breakfast is also perfect and for all the tastes (sweet, salty, jams homemade). Manuel proposes even to drive you from and to the airport, what we benefited for our arrival but also for our departure. Manuel is very welcoming. His wife, Teresa, is very discreet and very nice, she is also an excellent cooker. Both of them understand very well the french and speak several langages.
I cannot say enough about what a fantastic experience I had at Manuel and Theresa's place in Porto! Manuel genuinely enjoys having people stay there and he went way above and beyond to help me find my way around and to get me from the train and many other things. Breakfast was a wonderfully relaxing experience with local foods and homemade jams. We would drink coffee and chat. It was a great way to start the day. The room was very spacious and clean. It was an excellent value and I was very comfortable. It felt private, even though in their house. The view is breathtaking and the location is great with the Metro and buses running nearby. All that said, the really best part of the stay was meeting Manuel and Theresa. I felt like I was a good friend being treated to the caring and assistance of these gracious and generous people. I highly recommend that people book in here when you visit Porto. It was the highlight of my trip!
