Central single room Georgian house

House - Private room · Leinster Road, Rathmines, Dublin, Ireland

Waltons meets the city is how one friend described the funky decor in this room and that kind of describes in my house. I live in a family neighbour with cool edgy Portobello ten minutes away. Very central lots of buses, 20 minutes walk from centre.

The Space

Large single room in beautiful period home close to city centre and very close to all amenities. You are staying in my home and (email hidden)d in home with pets and a garden and friends calling in a friendly local neighbourhood. Its clean but not always perfectly tidy - its not a hotel its a home. I am happy to host you and give you advice to on where to go in Dublin or in the neighbourhood.

I am located in a friendly safe central neighbourhood with restaurants, bars and coffee shops and a cinema across the road all minutes away
You are 15 to 20 minutes walk to Trinity or a 10 minute bus ride (2 mins walk to bus stop), on a direct bus route to UCD (142, 15 mins away).

When you arrive I will give you keys.

The room has been completely redecorated since the professional shots and is now brighter and funkier... I went for a 60s Marimekko vibe. The very comfortable bed has an electric blanket.
2 minutes from
- 4 supermarkets
- a great and inexpensive Palestinian restaurant, Little Jerusalem,
- a great fish and chip shop
- Slatterys a listed Victorian pub,
a cinema, swimming pool and a laundry.
10 minutes walk to the green line Luas.
Shared bathroom, shared with max one other guest and sometimes me (if I want a bath).
continental breakfast available on request in beautiful garden with friendly poodle, foxes and loads of birds
no smoking inside or out !!
You can keep some small things in the fridge if you wish and have a tea, coffee or a drink or heat something in the microwave .
I do not provide cooking facilities as the kitchen is small.
There is a launderette around the corner should you wish to do your laundry. If you stay more than a week I will do a load of washing for you.
What I am providing is the bedroom. You are welcome to sit and study or use your computer in my dining room. The sitting room is sometimes available for your use. Please ask. The garden room is nice this time of year.
You can put a bike in my shed at the front of the garden but I do not guarantee safety.Lock it. I sometimes have parking but it is free on the road after 6 pm and before 7 am on weekdays and at the weekend. I may have residents dockets.

Guest Access

most of the house (dining room, bathrooms, garden room ) but limited access to the kitchen as it is in need of renovation. I work from home so while you may have access to the sitting room it is my home office. If I am in there working on my computer with the door shut please dont come in and talk to me. There are times I am not available. Keeping something small in the fridge and heating something up is fine . I give breakfast if the people want. I leave it out for you to help yourselves. If you stay a week or more I will do a load of washing for you.

Interaction with Guests

I am lead by the guest on the interaction. I am here to meet them myself, I chat to them as they want and tell them about the neighbourhood. It depends on the person entirely. Sometimes they come for a walk with me, sometimes they have a chat when they come in. Sometimes they come for a drink with me. I'm around a lot as I mostly work from home. I wont be intrusive but I will share my city with you.
However I do work from home. I use the sitting room as my home office and it is off limits in working hours (9-6 monday through Friday). I also have a dining room you are free to use and a conservatory but it is hard for me to work with people talking to me.... My work pay for my computer printer and ink. I cant print boarding passes for you but there is an internet cafe around the corner

The Neighborhood

Rathmines is like a village close to the city. There is everything you could want, parks , a library, bookshops, a cinema, supermarket, a swimming pool and gym, history - all within 5 minutes walk. I like Bark in Alan Hannas bookshop for coffee, but there is starbucks too. I like Slatterys for a drink or Little Jerusalem for simple food. There are lots of places. People are friendly and its green and leafy.

Getting around

There are buses 2 minutes from the door (phone number hidden). An 18 goes to Sandymount and Palmerstown. The Luas is 10-15 minutes walk away and loads and loads of cabs. Stephens green is 20 minutes walk.
Sometimes I can provide parking if not I may have parking dockets for the road for 1.25 each (24 hour). Its free after 6 until the morning and at weekends. From the airport its either a cab or a bus into town and then 14-15 from Trinity. Alan my friendly cab driver does a rate of 20 euro from the airport. (phone number hidden)

Other Things to Note

I love Rathmines and so does my poodle !! I love the Italian cafe in Portobello 10 minutes walk and the younger crowd like a pizza from the double decker bus and a drink in their trendy outdoor area in the evening. The cake cafe is nearby - they give you a hot water bottle if you sit outside on a cold day. The Lennox is great for brunch.

  • It was an excellent experience to stay with Margaret, she is a very funny and down to earth person, and she helped me with the places nearby for a good coffee or a restaurant. It´s definitely a good place to stay if you want to know Dublin!

  • I loved staying with Margaret. She is a lovely and genuine person, and we had some very interesting conversations over breakfast and in the evenings.
The house definitely has its own personality, very nice place to stay. It's also the home to sweet Nelly, the extremely friendly poodle!

  • Margarete has got an amazing house, and it's decorated with such a love to details.
She allowed me to stay over the weekend, even though it was on really short notice and she wasn't even home.
Nelli is a lovely relaxed dog, and really quiet and easy.
Would book the room again at any time!

  • Margaret is a very intelligent and knowledgeable host. She was extremely available and kind. She bought a fresh breakfast for guests in the morning. I did feel like the common areas could have been a neater. Things felt a little disheveled. There were a couple of other guests in the home and a shared bath. She had new razors available in the bath. The room itself was perfect, clean and was adorably designed with great wallpaper and a fantastic electric blanket that was so cozy. She went above and beyond. Not sure my room had a lock on the door. I am over 35yrs. and am just particular. I did not stay my second booked night.

    Response from Margaret:

There was just one other guest, I do not take more than two guests as they share a bathroom.

  • Margaret's got a stunning georgian house, beautiful decorated and very well located - 20 minutes on foot from city centre. Rathmines is a trendy area and got all you may need for your stay in Dublin. Margaret is a warm lovely lady who made me stay absolutely fantastic. She is easy going, sociable and all her tips were very useful. I felt like at home during my time at hers. I highly recommend her place.
