I fully recommend this B&B for anyone who is looking for a charming and well located place to stay while visiting, working or settling down in Victoria. The place is a gem. I only give it 4 out of 5 because I had some issues with noise due to renovation. However, I am sure once the house is fully renovated, you will only have good things to say about it.
The room was small but lovely and the bed was super comfortable. Breakfast bar was great! What a beautiful home. We enjoyed our stay. Mireille was very quick to respond to any questions I had while booking. I would definitely stay here again.
Craigmyle near the castle is unique and so are the owners Mireille and Denis. Who they are, the way they think and feel, is reflected and captured in this special BnB. A marvelous house which has welcomed guests for decades, now continues to do so with the exquisite touch and flair of Mireille, Denis, and Chanel. Their friendly, helpful and endearing attention is extended to all guests be they passing through or revisiting.
We stayed in the Master suite at Craigmyle for a month over the christmas holidays. In the morning you wake up to a fabulous view of the Craigdarroach castle from your bedroom window. Breakfast is served in the common area where tables are set up and you serve yourself. This provides a good opportunity to meet other fellow travellers and exchange stories. For the rest of the day one can use the lounge where there are comfortable chairs and couches by the fireplace. Computers and printers are provided for guest-use and there is even a telephone for free long distance calls to places in Canada and the U.S.A. A well-stocked kitchen is on the main floor and there is a laundry room in the basement. Towels, bed sheets, laundry soap, and other such provisions are stored here and guests can help themselves as needed. I you need help please speak to Veronika, who lives on-site, and is extremely helpful.
The building itself is over 100 years old but the owners, Mireille and Dennis, have done extensive renovations to the rooms making for a very comfortable stay. We appreciated the location of Craigmyle as one can walk to downtown in 15-20 minutes. It is hard to find more attentive and gracious hosts and we highly recommend staying here. Love their motto: 'Arrive as guests, leave as friends'.
Mirellle and Denis are great hosts. They connect with their guests, exhibit caring and interest, and keep on top of things. They attend to guest needs and make things happen. We needed to have a meeting and the large living room was ideal We we were encouraged to use the facilities for the meeting as we needed.
This is not a conventional B and B and that's what we love about it. People from all over the world, staying often for long periods so there can be relationships developed between guests. Not a meaningless conversation over breakfast where you know you will never see the people again. Many dining tables allows for different conversations every day if desired
Having free laundry and the ability to change your own sheets and towels as you see fit works really well for us. Knowing that the cleaner will not enter your suite until you check out means that you can leave it in the moment if necessary and not have to get ready for the cleaner.
We would always choose to stay here when we are in Victoria. Mireille and Denis feel like family, the facilities are perfect for us, and the rich mix of guests keeps it interesting during a long stay.
I can't imagine a better place to stay in Victoria. Everything is as beautiful as seen in the pictures. Mireille and Dennis are great hosts, always willing to help you in what ever you need. Hope I can come back some time soon!
This place was very cozy and cute. A terrific location. Mireille and Denis were very responsive, attentive and nice. Overall a great place to stay when visiting Victoria.
It's a great place in a nice neighborhood, as well as Mireille and her family are quite nice people. The house is quite tidy and the rooms are furnished in very good taste. I really enjoyed my stay at this place – I felt very comfortable and I hope that they have a room for me when I will visit Victoria again!
We found this B&B easy enough – thanks to good instructions via email. The key was in an envelope in the mail box with our name, and another guest directed us to the room. There was a printed announcement for us to phone the hosts and that they would soon be there to greet us. I did that and I suppose Mireille answered & inquired if we were settled. Mireille and Denis! - Who are they? for we did not see them once during our stay! We did enjoy the viewing of the castle, however. Also, my wife took advantage of the good washer and dryer. The “king” bed was merely two twins put together, using King sheets, but the separation could be felt between the mattresses. The place is old and painted to cover basic defects which are obvious upon a closer view. The shower was greatly appreciated. The breakfast was only a continental self-service with cold cereal etc. – all for $160.00! By contrast, the next two nights we were hosted elsewhere by a delightful couple who also fixed us a hot breakfast each morning for a total of $146 for the two nights including driving us to the airport the last day. All in all, “Life by the Castle” is overrated & overpriced for what one gets. We could have gone to a more romantic place to spend our anniversary night.
Mireille and Denis are perfect hosts. We had a very comfortable bed in a very nice room. There's a really nice view of the "castle." The continental breakfast was very good with lots of choices among baked goods, cereals, yogurts, fruit, etc.
The location was really good for us. Parking is a breeze and downtown is very close. We enjoyed the quiet neighborhood as well as taking a stroll. So much nicer than staying in a big hotel downtown.
