Once upon a time, in a place far far away, there was a small village where time stood still, a village with a name like the song of the crickets, with a white fortress on a hill, friendly peasants, 300 cows, horses and too many sheep to count.
The place of our story is Viscri and here, right in the heart of the village is a four window house facing the sun each morning. You'll find us, here, at Viscri 32 with 2 carefully restored rooms and a nice porch.
Both rooms are also available separately.

The space
A carefully renovated saxon house using traditional methods, materials and local craftsmen and preserving the original carved and painted signatures on the house's beams. A 1912 reconstruction on a 1700 foundation, furnished with old painted pieces with a few modern twists for extra comfort. Besides the old rooms in the original Johann Dootz old house, the property also features a cottage restaurant build inside the barn with 80 sits and a lovely terrace in the orchard behind.

Guest access
The guest are welcomed in the small kitchenette and dinning area filled with traditional Transylvanian stove tiles, brick walls with clay finishing and restored furniture. The former barn - nowadays a restaurant is also opened for guests with local saxon, Romanian and Hungarian dishes and deserts, great espresso coffee and a fine selection of Romanian wines and crafted beers.

Other things to note
The access roads from the main road of Brasov or Sighisoara are almost as primitive as in the Middle Ages.

Viscri village is situated in a remote area where things remained unchanged in so many perspectives. It's equally close to Sighișoara and Brașov (which we highly recommend visiting) - a 40 to 60 minutes drive - and in the vicinity of other picturesque villages with fortified churches: Saschiz (Unesco site), Criț, Meșendorf, Roadeș.

During your stay
The managers are a young couple that moved just a while ago from the crowded city of Bucharest. They can give you lots of details on the modern life at the countryside and suggestions of how you can spend your time in Viscri or in Transylvania: what to eat, must-visit spots and of course the traditional village offerings: the old 12th century fortified church, the carriage ride in the forest, the truffle hunting with Cornel, bird watching, bike rides from one fortified church to the other and traditional brick making methods on the village hill, Imola's village art gallery and the list can go on.
