The Space

This tranquil idyll on the River Thames offers a quiet retreat from city life. It has easy access from the M4 and M40 motorways and also has rail links to London and to the West.

Tourist attractions are many not least the town of Windsor which is a 15 minute drive away. And Oxford which is a little further at 30 minutes.

It boasts a large garden complete with rambling roses and a smooth lawn. With views of open countryside and the river.
This unusual riverside dwelling has lots of quiet areas in which to read or meditate or to just sit and watch the river flow by. It is a Victorian bungalow built in about 1896 and has lots of original features.

We can accommodate two couples. One of the king size beds is located in the studio at the end of the garden complete with loo and wash basin.
The other king size bed is in the house.
Guests have access to most areas of the house including the kitchen, shower room and the utility room. The garden, the deck and the veranda are yours to enjoy.

The neighbourhood is usually very quiet as there is no traffic, only boats chugging by from time to time. We have a local pub very close by and various restaurants in the village of Bourne End on the other side of the river. The village also has coffee shops, post office, library etc.

As my guest if you need anything I am here to help as I will be at home when you are here.

You have access to the cabin in the garden and the main house. The cabin is private but the house is shared with the owner.

The owner lives and works from the house but there are plenty of outside and inside spaces.

The neighbourhood is quiet as we have no road here, just a footpath running alongside the river bank. There are eight houses and a pub. So if you want it quiet you have it here.

The rail station is an eight minute walk away with trains to London and Oxford.
You can park your car on the other side of the river for free. You can get here from Heathrow Airport either by train or by car. The train takes about one hour and by road about 30 minutes.

There is no road access to the house and I always commute to the other side of the river by boat, it takes about 30 seconds or so. So when you first arrive you can be picked up by boat so that you don't have to carry your bags on the eight minute walk. And also when you leave.

  • Josephine is a great host! I have had the pleasure of staying at her home many a time and it is always clean, comfortable and always a pleasure! Her place is set in a beautiful and tranquil location with the countryside extending out behind the house and the upper reaches of the Thames river meandering out front. Accessing the house by boat makes for a fun and unique experience. With different birds and boats floating by there is always a different view that can be a refreshing source of inspiration. The local pub is conveniently located a short walk away by the river, and the local train station is less than a 5 minute drive away. A stay at this place is sure to be an enjoyable and relaxing experience where you will be well taken care of.

  • I met Josephine in 2009. She is a delightful person and host. I'm envious of anyone who gets the opportunity to stay right on the Thames and especially in Bourne End, England with Josephine.

About
Living right by the river Thames makes me a riparian. The riparian lifestyle is fun, healthy and certainly different. I bring everything to my house by boat, and that includes people, and in all weathers. I'm a widow and sort of retired whatever that means... I enjoy grandmothering, gardening, boating, property investment, Airbnb and lots of other things, too many to mention. My house has extra rooms so sharing the beauty of Rippledene with others seems like a good idea. Healing, meditation and quiet reflection are my favourite things but I enjoy a glass of good wine too sometimes. I look forward to welcoming you to my home especially if you enjoy long country walks and peace and quiet. It is a wonderful place to rest and get recharged.
