We stayed a weekend in Elly's place and it was great. Communication with Elly was fine and she kindly prepared 5 beds for us. The appartment is conveniently located in the centre of Breda, with everything within walking distance. I would recommend staying here. Only (slight) downside is the fact it can be quite noisy during weekends because of the bar next door.
Everything fine and as described. Location is awesome, really in the centre and with views to the canal and the Cathedral.
On the other hand it is quite noisy at nights because there are some bars and pubs in the street just below the windows. So not recomendable if you want something quiet but highly recommended if you are willing to go out and experience the night.
We chose this apartment because it was the only one in the old centre of Breda. It is ideally located for exploring Breda and for public transport. After several sleepless nights, we regretted this. It seems that Breda has many drug and alcohol affected morons who feel compelled to shout outside our window between midnight and 5am. Occasionally they give some comic relief by falling into the canal. However, if you are in Breda for the Jazz festival or a rave, you might enjoy this location.
The apartment was sparsely furnished - no oven, microwave or otherwise and the fridge barely deserved the title as it could not seem to get below room temperature. A better description for the "double bed" would be a slightly oversize single bed.
The apartment was advertised as having Wi Fi. It did not have Wi Fi. The closest thing was the "free" WiFi from the Doc19 bar below. However, it was not easy to get the password from the hostile owner and when we did, we found it was not reliable.
Allan, his wife and mother is law are very friendly people. They arrived in Breda in the midst of the annual Jazzfestival and in summertime, that takes place for about 4 days. Some people tried to book our place especially for festval, because they love to visit Breda on those days. For some people, like it appears to be the case for Allan, it is too busy. Breda and especially the neighnourhood is normally not that crowded and for sure not a part of the city with a drugs or alcohol problem as he suggests. Allan and his travel compainons might have had an other expectations, the more his mother in law lived in Breda many years ago and possibly some things changed over the time.
Some comment to other remarks; We arranged a microwave right away, after their suggestion. If only they asked us about it during their stay; we had a microwave in the kitchen downstairs which we gladly wold have moved upstairs. We did so now. The fridge we checked, but proves to be working. All tourist visiting Holland former summers can tell you that the Netherlands is not familiar with hot summers. To our suprise we had one this year. Therefore our apartment was not yet ecquiped with ac or a fan. Next year we will provide something if necesarry.
Our studios are furnished with '50-70s design. Following this concept, the double bed has a design (and dimensions) from that period of time. It is a matter of taste is one likes it or feels it is sparsely furnished.
Many people that stay in or apartment have their own hotspot or 3G. Some can do with the wifi that is there.
Allan and his family are always welcome to come back and stay with us again.
We arrived on sunday the 12th of January and landlords were there waiting for us. They are very kind and attentive. The studio is useful and cozy, is clear and very comfortable especially for the location very near to the center (in 1 minute you are in front of the cathedral).
I absolutely recommend it to everyone I know.
