  • Sheila was a great hostess. We had scones and coffee waiting for us every morning. The room was very clean and comfortable. I'm allergic to cats and even though Sheila has a cat, I never felt my allergies start up. That speaks to how clean she keeps the place. And the location could not have been better. Highly recommended.

  • Sheila and her lovely house was one of out favorites stays in Ireland. You definitely get the feeling of living more like a local when you stay with her. Her place is very cozy and welcoming. She has two lovely cats who roam about that are sweet as can be and add to the charm of her place. Every evening she has a fire going in the front room and every morning we had fresh squeezed orange juice. The place was very clean and the bed was super cozy! Sheila was fast to communicate with us prior to booking and gave us plenty of tips on what to do and see while staying in Galway. The next time we come back, we will definitely be staying with her again!

  • Without any exaggeration, I can definitely say that living in a Sheila house was one of the most enjoyable moments of our stay in Ireland. It's hard to explain, but in this place I want to go back. If I ever again find myself in Galway, I will necessarily look into the windows of this wonderful house and try to book the room again.
Sheila was a great hostess. Right at the doorstep, we felt the care and attention to us when we arrived. We had a very pleasant conversation over breakfasts. It was very interesting to hear about the local life and generally about everything. Sheila is very agreeable companion. She advised us an excellent tour of the Aran Islands and shown on the map the most interesting places in Galway.
Sheila also made us fresh squeezed orange juice each morning.
The place was very clean and the bed was really cozy! It was very nice to relax after a day full of impressions.
Two wonderful cats live in the house. For us it was a big plus, we love cats.
Everything was great! Thank you Sheila!
I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Galway.

  • Staying with Sheila was wonderful. Her home was beautiful and very well located. I really enjoyed our conversations over breakfast and she had a lot of great advice for seeing the city. On my final morning she even gave me a ride to the bus station which I greatly appreciated as I was at the tail end of my time abroad and had a lot of luggage. I loved my time staying with Sheila and would certainly stay with her again, I recommend her to anyone looking to stay in Galway.

  • Sheila was a brilliant host, lovely to chat to and very helpful with directing us to great places around Galway. She even made us pancakes on arrival, as it was Shrove Tuesday! House very cosy and comfortable too. Highly recommend staying here.

  • We had a wonderful time staying at Sheila's house. I would even go so far as to say that it is one of our best ever experiences staying in a B&B in Ireland, definitely our best airbnb experience thus far. Sheila is a very accomodating and understanding host, we had ample use of the kitchen and sitting room and when our one year old decided that 5 am was party time she wasn't at all phased. The house itself is an old school Galway dwelling with lots of character - a nice alternative to generic b&b's and hotels. Location wise it is hard to beat for anyone who want's to see the town on foot. Would definitely stay here again when coming through Galway. Thanks Sheila for a wonderful stay.

  • Sheila's place in Central Galway is fantastic! We truly enjoyed staying with Sheila and her kitty cats. Her home is rich in history and Sheila is prompt with responses; kind, interesting, and very helpful with suggestions, parking and directions. The room and bathroom are comfortable and quiet and we enjoyed the cozy peat fire in the living area. Sheila also made us fresh squeezed orange juice each morning and offered nice cereals, scones, tea, coffee etc, which were unexpected, but very much appreciated! This was our first experience with airbnb and it worked out just perfect for us. Thank you Sheila!

Green Sod Ireland
Hi, I’m Sheila and I was born in this house, built by my great grandfather in 1887. Though I have a degree in Textile Design and teach art, my passion is ecology/environment. I am co-founder of Green Sod Ireland, working to protect Irish ecosystems and that’s where I’m in my element! I am vegetarian, an animal lover and though I’ve always had dogs I how have two rescued cats. In 1987, myself and my sister bought, restored and now maintain a small Joycean museum: The Nora Barnacle House in Galway city, just a short distance from my home. I love the Visual Arts, reading and good food…… I’m easy-going and enjoy meeting new people, so looking forward to welcoming you to Galway. It’s a lovely city, more like a small town, full of culture and craic.
