  • Sheila was one of the best hosts I've ever stayed with! Her home was cozy and warm, and she was welcoming and friendly. I can't speak highly enough of my time there.

  • Sheila really opened her home. The location of her house is perfect - walking distance anywhere, a quiet river just across. The room was comfortable, never had a problem with shared bathroom.
I will be happy to stay with Sheila in the future and meet her again.

  • We definetely enjoyed staying at this cosy place! Right beside there is a nice riverwalk that leads to the center where all the pubs, restaurants and shops are. You can also follow the promenade by foot to nice beaches , if your get lucky with the weather. It s a perfect spot to explore the island if you do not have a car- bus station is a ten-minutes-walk away. From there you can make different tours to connemara and so on. Sheila is heartful and very uncomplicated. You can as well have a good laugh with her. The room is very clean and decorated nicely. It is small, but comfortable. All in all it is a very charming place and we would highly recommend it to people who are looking for a special spot in the heart of galway city. L&C

  • Best place I have yet stayed, through airbnb! House is located right on the river and Sheila could not have been a more accommodating host.

  • My daughter and I were completely charmed by Sheila's house and it's location in historic Galway. Sheila is a warm and knowledgeable host who made us feel completely at home in her home. She made parking convenient as we were able to walk to everything we wanted to explore in town. She had great advice for our hike in the Connemara district. There wasn't enough time to do everything, so we will be back!

  • It was a wonderful experience staying at Sheila's house. It was right in town, but without any noise. The bed was so comfortable I relaxed and slept so well. I highly recommend staying here.
Sheila is so nice too. She gave me the inside scoop on some great places to eat!

Green Sod Ireland
Hi, I’m Sheila and I was born in this house, built by my great grandfather in 1887. Though I have a degree in Textile Design and teach art, my passion is ecology/environment. I am co-founder of Green Sod Ireland, working to protect Irish ecosystems and that’s where I’m in my element! I am vegetarian, an animal lover and though I’ve always had dogs I how have two rescued cats. In 1987, myself and my sister bought, restored and now maintain a small Joycean museum: The Nora Barnacle House in Galway city, just a short distance from my home. I love the Visual Arts, reading and good food…… I’m easy-going and enjoy meeting new people, so looking forward to welcoming you to Galway. It’s a lovely city, more like a small town, full of culture and craic.
