The Space

If you want to be close enough to the bustle and vibrancy of Alberta street that you can walk to and from arts & culture, tasty local food, unique bars, and our lovely farmer's market, but not soooo close that you can't enjoy the relative peace and comfort of a residential neighborhood during your visit, then here's your spot!

The house: is one-half of a duplex with original vintage tile in the kitchen and shared bathroom, wood floors in the rest of the house, and is prone to creaking/settling at all hours. We love it. The basement has been furnished with a projector and sofa/chairs, so if you're here while we're watching movies or Arrested Development, expect an invitation to come hang out and grab a beer from the basement beer fridge.

Your room: is on the smaller side, but with plenty of hanging/folded storage space in the built-ins for all the belongings you've brought. Your bed is queen-sized with a firm foam mattress base and a memory-foam topper several inches thick. This is the exact combo I sleep on, and replicated it for my guest room because I think it's just the right balance of cushy and supportive.

Interaction with Guests

We work at home on weekdays, so while you're absolutely welcome to make yourself at home while you're here (or ask for anything you need), just know that we'll be staring at our desks/laptops or in meetings from about 8-5. :) On the weekends, we'll often be out and about quite a bit, just like you.

Getting around

While busses and your own two feet provide all the transport you're likely to need around the neighborhood, if you do have a car, there's plenty of street parking available right outside the house.

Other Things to Note

We're fairly new to Portland, but already have some good recommendations for our neighborhood and beyond, so come check them out and add to them with your own tips! We bet you'll have a great time in this town that we now call home. Still have questions? Please shoot me a message! I'll respond just as quickly as I'm able.

  • Jessi gave us many tips for places to see around Portland. She & her husband, Mark, have a well-appointed & charming home complete with a rolling cart of delicious food! They gave us a healthy balance of space & sociability, which worked well for us as we were enjoying our first weekend alone together since starting our road trip across the U.S. Our first time using Airbnb was a very positive experience.

  • Jessi and Ben were great host who were very friendly and helpful. Easy going and flexible and made our stay very comfortable. They made sure we had everything we needed and were very hospitable. Room was bright, nicely decorated and a comfortable bed. Really beautiful place in a great neighbourhood. The location of the house is right in Alberta Arts, where there are several lovely shops and some of the best restaurants in Portland. I loved not having to drive anywhere to get food or shop since there were severals stores within walking distance. Whenever we back in Portland we would love to stay here again! We can only recommend this place to everyone how plans to go to Portland Oregon. Thanks Jessi and Ben we had a great time:)

  • I absolutely adored my experience staying with Jessi and Ben in their Alberta Arts home! They were fantastically flexible, inviting and enjoyable to interact with during my stay. The room was tranquil and inviting, with everything I could possibly need during my stay. Jessi and Ben truly went above and beyond as Airbnb hosts and made my first stay SO memorable!

  • My stay with Jessi and Ben in Portland was absolutely perfect. Their home is located in my favorite area of Portland, Alberta Arts District: so charming, filled with amazing restaurants/shops, and very walkable. Jessi and Ben were excellent hosts: they were welcoming and friendly, provided fresh linens and yummy snacks, and were very knowledgeable about the area. The room was lovely, with a comfy bed and plenty of sunshine! I look forward to staying with Jessi and Ben next time I am in Portland. Thank you for a most wonderful first experience in Portland, both!

  • AMAZING hosts :-) Jessi picked us up from the airport and she and her husband were so kind to take us to brunch and show us the downtown near their home. Portland is such a sweet city with so many friendly people. Their room was perfect for us. They even had a great entertainment system where we were able to watch a movie after a delicious dinner. I hope next time we are in Portland we will be able to stay with Jessi and Ben again!

  • Jessi and Ben are perfect hosts! They respect your space yet are friendly, warm and hospitable. Everything was clearly laid out and I felt like I was staying with friends of friends who soon became my friends! Their neighborhood was perfect for walking to many cool food, entertainment and shopping options in practically every direction and the streets are dotted with adorable houses. Highly recommend staying here if you're looking for an authentic Portland (neighborhoody) experience.

About
i'm a passionate Airbnb-er (so much so that I work for Airbnb!). As a veteran guest, I decided to try hosting as well, and now I'm so glad I did. Especially because over the years, wonderful hosts have demonstrated so many facets of perfect hospitality to me. i appreciate all the homes and hosts that have welcomed me as a traveler, as well as the guests who've chosen to relax in my home--the people i've met have been just as exciting and interesting as the places i've gone. :) i firmly believe the condiments make the meal.
