Private room with full size bed and private full bathroom in my lovely NE Portland Bungalow in the centrally located and walkable neighborhood of Irvington/Alameda. Walking to Alberta Arts and Mississippi street for shopping, cafes, bookstores, clothing, music, is easy from here. Only a 5-10 minute drive to NW Pearl District , Hawthorne and SE neighborhoods, or Downtown for arts/events/restaurants/shopping/music and more. The house is very close to public transit. Portland has so many treasures: Forest Park walking/biking/running trails just 10 minutes from our house, the waterfront walking/riding trail just 10 min from us, the Gorge is 30 minute drive and will be unforgettable, and the Oregon coast is just 1.5 hours drive and shouldn't be missed. There are wonderful museums, galleries, theater, music, dining options in Portland too. Then there all the quirky Portlandia possibilities, which I am happy to suggest. My home will be a cozy place to return to and get a peaceful night's sleep. The room is quiet and private, located in our remodeled and clean daylight basement, so it stays cool all summer. It has built in drawers and closet space, 2 night stands, and a clean full bath with shower/tub. Limited kitchen privileges included. And there are plenty of delicious food options nearby!
Private bedroom, private bath, sitting area, light use of kitchen.
Interaction with Guests
I enjoy welcoming you and answering any questions but don't require a lot of interaction if guests are looking for solitude.
This is a safe, lovely neighborhood, lined with trees and vintage restored homes and sidewalks to take you to all the cool spots in NE such as Alberta, N. Williams, N. Mississippi. It's quick to NW, SW or SE as well and on a bus line. Bike rentals nearby are always fun.
Great for walking, biking, public transit, and street parking is easy.
Other Things to Note
wifi available, back yard sitting area, front porch area for the morning sunshine, safe yard to lock bikes.
No parties, smoking or smokers, candles, pets, drugs or other illegal activities, and no overnight guests. Liability release to be signed on arrival.
My boyfriend and I stayed with Kelly for two nights and had a great visit. Her beautiful home was just a short walk from Alberta and she left us great recommendations of restaurants and activities we could walk or drive to. The space was exactly as the listing described and we would definitely stay there again. Thank you, Kelly!
Situated in one of the most beautiful suburbs of Portland my husband and I have visited, this Bnb's location is perfect. Walking the leafy, immaculate streets is a pleasure with the house close to local cafes, shops, Trimet, Lloyd center & mall and the Downtown area.
The private basement bedroom and bathroom accommodation is large enough for all your needs.
Unfortunately this area was also airless and dimly lit with the seating very stained and shabby. Of the 5 days of our stay the TV worked for only 2 days. (Our hostess informing us that most of her guests did not watch TV but use Ipods and therefore not normally a problem). The lighting fluctuated so badly that we could not read in the evening.
Our busy & often absent hostess Kelly, whilst polite was not very welcoming, informative or inclusive, nor having the time to show us coffee & tea making facilities or in providing a fresh change of bathtowels over our 5 day stay (none of which were available in our basement area).
As a working couple from Australia on business here in Portland we found the experience in this bnb isolating & unwelcoming and therefore unfortunately we could not recommend this hosting.
I am so sorry you felt that way. I enjoyed visiting with you, Margaret, and thought we connected several times. I really thought I was being supportive of you, taking your last minute emergency request when your other one fell through, leaving you my personal list of dining, coffee, books, bikes, etc nearby, giving you the best towels in the house, fresh water, a fan, ironing board and laundry services, coffee laid out for you on the kitchen counter (sorry i didn't leave instructions…), and accommodating to your personal habits of heavy perfume and constant tv volume and rushed exits with your husband stressed and giving orders to us all. I truly wish you had felt the warmth and genuine interest I felt toward you and hope your next experience will be happier.
a lovely clean place to stay in one of my very favorite Portland neighborhoods.
We had a great stay at Kelly's place this past weekend. She has a beautiful home in a quiet neighbourhood. We definitely preferred staying here over a hotel in downtown and it was just a short drive to get downtown when we wanted to. The room and bathroom were perfectly clean and well maintained. Her place is just a short walk to Alberta street with plenty of great dining and shopping on offer.
It is an older house, so it can be quite loud downstairs with people walking around upstairs in the morning, but both Kelly and her family are very gracious hosts nonetheless.
Thank goodness for a host like Kelly! She sent me emails before my arrival, eager to share wonderful recommendations about Portland. And the room was quiet, large enough for me and all of my toys, the wifi fast (I got a lot of work done!), and I had my own bathroom.
All of this was wonderful, PLUS the bed was amazingly comfortable. We bonded over a shared love of Danish culture and Portland itself. I wish I had worked less and hung out more with Kelly, but maybe next time.
All in all, a most wonderful experience.
Kelly was both welcoming and accommodating. Location is perfect - a quick walk to the shops, restaurants, and vibes of Alberta, and a short bike/bus ride to downtown.
You're getting a bedroom and bathroom for a bedroom price. Hard to beat.
Watch your head if you're tall (+6'3"), but zero real criticisms. Would recommend staying here to family members and friends.
Kelly was a gracious host and her home has a warm, friendly vibe. This downstairs suite was cozy and private just as described. I was pleasantly surprised that she even left me a cheese and bread snack when I arrived from the airport late on Sunday. I was visiting on business and rarely saw Kelly, so we communicated by text message. She was responsive and helpful. Her highschool-aged son was polite and respectful in the limited interactions that I had with him. When traveling, it certainly is nice to stay in a real home instead of an impersonal hotel.
