The apartment is located in Via Laietana street, just in the Gothic Quarter; the historical centre and the oldest part of the city of Barcelona . Some of the most interesting places of this neighbourhood of Barcelona are: the Cathedral, the Church of Santa Maria del Pi and the squares (the Plaza del Rei, the plaza Real, the plaza del Pi and La Plaza Sant Jaume which is close to the apartment. The Gothic Quarter is going down from Plaça Catalunya to the Ramblas, You will be surrounded by streets and squares full of stores, street-cafes, terraces, bars and restaurants.
The metro station “Jaume I” (yellow line) and few buses stop, with a direct bus ride to Barceloneta beach. Just three minutes walking from Plaza Cataluña, this apartment is perfectly located for the touristic areas along Las Ramblas, the shops of Paseo de Gracia, the bohemian Born, or the lively markets of La Boquería and Santa Catarina.
The apartment has 280m2, 5 single rooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen and a balcony. It has central heating, internet connection, lift and balcony with views.
The entire flat is equipped and furnished.
In the apartment, whose size allows an independent life, live also Albiol, artist and translator, who is often travelling, his father Lluis, a very cool man who lives in his own space and his wife.
We have a lot experience to host people from around the world. We are friendly and, of course, very honest.
You cant ask for a better location: its right in the heart of Barcelona. Roger's mother, who hosted me, is an amazing woman and did everything in her power to make me feel welcome and at home. Truly a great host and a sweetheart!
The room I had was very basic: a bed, a desk/chair, a set of shelves and wifi. That's usually all I need when I travel, so it was more than enough. The room was facing an inner patio, which kept street noise to minimum, although you can still hear church bells far in the distance, which can be quite soothing. Bed was comfortable and linen was clean.
Bathroom is shared among all guests. Shower head kept falling down which was a minor annoyance. I am sure Roger will fix it for his future guests.
Two things I'd like to mention is that its quite an old apartment and I got the sense of it only once I got there. And despite paying a very affordable rate, it would have been nice if the floors and the room curtain had been a bit cleaner.
Roger's family were perfect, friendly hosts, made you feel at home during the whole stay.
Location could not be more central, charming room in a beautiful house full of character.
Roger and he's family are very welcoming and friendly.
Also Roger's flat is so nice location!
I could easily find his flat.
My room was so cosy, it made me feel like real my room.
There are lot of guide books and I could borrow one of them.
Viel Spass!
I didn't have a chance to meet Roger but his family is amazing.
Of course, this flat has perfect location, right in the "centre of the Universe" but this flat feels like Home. Home you don't want to leave. You can have a long a interesting chat with Roger's brother - Albiol or you can have a short talk with his father or mother. They have a lot of interesting books and art-books but if you don't like to read there're also maps and guides. Apartment is really big, room is small and cozy, you can feel safe there. There're other rooms that are rented too so one can meet interesting people from all over the world :) This house is old so mind that. It doesn't have any "new cool things" like microwave, induction cooking heat or smt like that. Idk why but for some people it matters.
Back to the location. Because it's in the centre you don't need to use public transport to explore 'the world around you'. It's close to the beach, to main touristic sites and, if you like walking, to Montjuic and even Tibidabo.
Roger was in constant contact with me from the first inquiry to the time that I arrived. He asked what time I would be arriving and made sure that someone was there to greet me.
I received the keys and after dropping off my bags, I went out to enjoy Barcelona for everything it had to offer. I didn't run into Roger or anyone else from his family for the remainder of the trip. Which was totally fine as I'm a pretty independent traveler. There is a complete library of books and maps if you need them. And I'm sure if you wanted to ask them a question, Roger or anyone from his family would be an excellent source of information. They've lived in this apartment from what I have gathered, about 100 years.
The room was on the quiet side of the apartment, and after a long day of walking around, it was very easy to just fall fast asleep.
On my second day on this trip I walked out of the apartment and was in the middle of an Independence march for Catalonia. I was swept up and included in the march and it was fantastic.
Lots of restaurants and coffee houses in the area, and walking distance to some great museums and exhibits. I figured out the subway system which is steps away. Great location! Would return for sure.
