About This Listing
This is a red-brick, period house very close to the city centre, with public transport 30 seconds away! There are museums, art galleries and parks within walking distance and the immediate community is lively and interesting.
Double bedroom in redbrick terraced house in the quiet area of Kilmainham with a shared bathroom.
I am a painter and have a lot of art hanging on the walls. Many of my neighbours are artists and musicians and there is a well-known art night in a local pub next to the National Museum of Modern Art - it's held on the first Monday of every month.
The National Museum of Decorative Arts and History, Kilmainham Gaol Museum and the Guinness Storehouse are also close by - as are all the major art galleries, museums and parks in the city centre (3km). Public transport is practically on the doorstep and you can either walk to the centre (25 minutes) or take a bus (10 minutes) or Luas Tram (15 minutes).
The Phoenix Park is 1.5k from the house and is the largest public park in Europe with beautiful trees and wildlife.
Guests have access to the kitchen for tea, coffee, etc. and a continental breakfast is supplied. Soap, shampoo and conditioner are available.
Interaction with Guests
I have enjoyed having all the guests who have stayed - they have all been exceptionally nice people. I work from home so I am here most of the time.
It's a lovely, quiet neighbourhood with lots of interesting people living around. It's very close to beautiful parks and museums and an easy walk to the city centre. The famous Kilmainham Gaol Museum is a must-see for those interested in Irish history. The Phoenix Park is one of the largest public parks in the world and our President resides there. The Museum of Modern Art is very close too.
Public transport is very convenient. There is a regular bus service from the end of the road - every 10-15 minutes to the city centre (taking 10 minutes to get there) and the Luas tram is a five-minute walk away. There is also easy access to the main railway stations and the airport bus. To get from the airport: take the airport bus (747) to the city centre (€6 per person) and get out on O'Connell St - just outside the Gresham Hotel, you can then take the 123 bus at the stop beside it (€2.55 per person) as far as the stop after St James's Hospital. So, once you are leaving the hospital grounds through the back gate, press the bell and get out at the next stop. Walk back 10 metres to the turn for Mayfield Road and my house is in the middle on the right hand side. Alternatively, the taxi would take approximately 30 minutes and cost about €25. There is only on-street, metered parking available.
Other Things to Note
Like most people, my main concern is security and safety: remembering to close windows, turn off gas and lock up.
The room is for rent to not more than 2 people. I expect guests to be security conscious - remembering to close bedroom windows and to lock up when they leave.
I don't allow pets and smoking is not permitted inside. As the house is old, I ask people to be patient and kind!
We had a great time at Annes' place. She is a very kind person who always tries to help and gives good advises. The room was big, clean and comfortable. It was great to sit in the little garden behind the house and have a coffee. I'd go there again! Thank you Anne!
très bon rapport qualité/prix

Sa maison est sympa et très bien tenue. On s'y sent bien.
Anne was a really wonderfull host! She always was welcoming, helpful, and caring. She made us feel like home! The house and our room were really cozy and clean and Anne also offered us daily breakfast. If you like to enjoy your stay in Dublin near the city Center, Anne would be the best host die you. We'll come back for sure!!!
Anne has a beautiful home and she was a wonderful host. The neighborhood was fantastic and in a great location (15 minute bus ride to the city center, with some attractions in walking distance), and the room was exactly as it is pictured here, and very comfortable. Anne generously provided a delicious breakfast of tea and toast for us each morning, and even left food out for us when she knew we had an especially early morning. She was very friendly and wonderful to talk to, with great recommendations for things to do in the city. Would absolutely recommend staying here!
Anne was a really great host - welcoming, helpful and very caring! Not only did she have good recommendations on where to go in town, but also time to sit down for a little chat which I really enjoyed. The house itself is lovely and in a great location, as public transport was really good and the Phoenix Park just a little walk away. I would totally recommend staying at Anne's!

About the Host, Anne
I live in Kilmainham, very close to Dublin city centre in a period redbrick house which is very typical. It's close to museums, parks and transport. I love travelling especially to Spain and Italy - I prefer culture to beach holidays and I also love skiing and walking holidays. I often have friends and family stay so I'm used to visitors and quite relaxed about sharing my home. I am an artist and an acupuncturist - an odd mix but I get to work from home and decide how I spend my time!
