The Space

Come to Topanga Canyon and enjoy this garden level guest apartment with modern design flair. A great escape from the rigors of city life, yet close enough for an easy commute to most of LA.

Enjoy the comforts of this well-appointed sunny Jr. 1 Bedroom apartment with polished concrete floors, full kitchen, full bathroom, Jacuzzi tub and outdoor shower. Wireless access and cable TV, but you will be hard pressed to do either when you can instead spend your time outdoors basking under the stars in our outdoor Jacuzzi and soaking in the sounds of nature all around. This is not your typical rental unit.

$25 fees would be charge for each additional guest after 2 people. Dog friendly for those with friendly dogs. EACH dog would be considered and booked as additional guest at the $20 fees. We love dog and offer a Dog Sitting available at additional charge.

Walking distance to Red Rock Canyon Park and other nearby trails

Cell phones have limited reception here, but full wireless coverage and microcell available. So we CAN get you the reception 99% of the time, depending on the provider. You can also get a reception Landline available for additional fee.

  • This was our fourth trip back at Walter and Sylvia's! We have stayed there many times and will continue to in the future! We absolutely love it! The location is perfect in the topanga mountains just 13 mins from Malibu and the beach. The house is always clean and really beautifully decorated. Very cozy at night with a gas fire place for cooler nights. There are many hiking trails and cool shops in topanga. Malibu has great restaurants and shopping. Some of our favorite places in the area are heyokahideout (awesome leather goods and vintage collections, everything from crystals to moccasins) hidden treasures (vintage) cafe mimosa. some favorites in Malibu are Cholada (great Thai restaurant) lumberyard (shops) marmalade (great breakfast) the Malibu farmers market on Sundays. Paradise cove (great beach restaurant). We absolutely love renting here. :) enjoy!!

  • This place is incredible. If we could stay for a year here, we would. Instantly felt like home, the design is unique and very of those places you feel super comfortable just to curl up on the couch, cook a meal, spend time in the yard. Location is quiet and Topenga Canyon is the perfect hideaway. We actually extended our stay because we loved this place so much. Sylvia was an awesome host. Would recommend it to anyone - unless we book it up ;)

  • I had a wonderful experience staying here. The hosts were generous, kind and accommodating and the space was as charming as it was lovely. The property is nestled in Topanga Canyon and the gardens there are full of flowers (mostly roses) and trees. The apartment has TV/cable and WiFi and it is really cozy. The gas fireplace and décor make the place feel like a home. I really enjoyed staying in the area and the hosts were terrific - extremely warm and helpful. It is peaceful and serene but still close to everything I wanted to do in LA - I would go back in an instant.

  • My Boyfriend and I stayed here with our two dogs. On the day we arrived we agreed with the property manager we would arrive by 12 noon, but we got stuck in traffic, so when I informed Sylvia(property manager )of this she was very firm on us coming the time we said as Sylvia said she had to leave shortly after checking us in,we almost got in an accident and argued due to stress of this, when we arrived we were met with some hostility because my dogs and her dog were supposed to meet a certain way and didn't. We were shown the place, then Sylvia was around all day. The place It is quant, if you are not into a lot of space, when I asked the square footage before I booked Sylvia did not know although she lives here. The apartment looks bigger in the pictures. The place was not very clean, the bedroom was very small and the mattress very uncomfortable, Sylvia offered to bring another mattress but we slept on the couch instead. The washer worked fine but the dryer was not functional no matter how many times you tried to dry your clothes, the hot water seemed to be hot only after Sylvia was awake in the mornings, I tried to take a bath at 1am once, but got no hot water at all even after running the water for 10 min, very peculiar. Also you knew when Sylvia was awake as she liked to get into the backyard hot tub naked in the mornings when my boyfriend was letting out our dogs. Sylvia's dog seemed friendly Pablo is a rescue dog he wasn't really social, one day he bit my dog. One night there was other tenants having a party in the backyard I didn't get sleep until 4am they were so loud, most of the time it was quite during our stay.Besides all that the Topanga area is great! Loved the vibe and the people, everyone was very friendly, lots of fun hiking trails and biking. I grew up in LA so I was familiar with the area already. The overall experience was not good. Would only recommend this place if your not looking for space, privacy or cleanliness.

  • Folks...just know that Sylvia is one of the best hosts I have had on Airbnb to date. She was welcoming, friendly and I can't say enough good things about this property. It is incredible. You get the true topanga feeling from it and have endless entertainment at your fingertips in this part of Los Angeles. On top of it all, my boy Noble, just loved it there!

I would definitely recommend staying here and getting a taste of true hospitality.

THANKS AGAIN SYLVIA & sorry my review took so long. I have been out of the country for a couple weeks.

  • The place in Old Topanga was nice and comfortable. The host was very kind and flexible. We needed a different table and she offered a new one. Then we needed a different chair and we got it. No problems while staying there. Only one thing travellers should know: the cell phone coverage is poor but the Internet works well.
The area is beautiful. Old Topanga Road is like being in the country, very far from the city, but LA is 15 minutes away. Down the road the Ocean and its beaches is expecting you. Will return.

  • Not only was the apartment amazing, Sylvia alone would be a reason to stay. as I understand, she is the one who designed and built the place, so everything you see has personality and character. the dog Pablo is the cutest thing you'll see (he actually closes the door behind him!) and taking him on a hike is most definitely worth it, the sights around Topanga are unique. Special thanks to Sylvia for her helpfulness, when she heard we had troubles with our car rental, she went out of her way to make sure everything turned out well.
To quote Schwarzenegger: "I'll be back!"

  • Sylvie was an excellent host who was very accommodating and full of information. Had many great conversation. The location is great as it is surrounded by canyon that are easily accessible (by car) and for great walks. I will hopefully be back.

  • We had a magical stay at the Topanga Canyon Garden Apartment. Loved the hot tub in the cheery communal garden space, the wonderful private deep soaking tub in the apartment, and the comfy sofa in front of the gas-fireplace/heater. Also great hiking and exploring rock formations at Red Rock park, within walking distance, which our lovely host recommended.
