This house reflects the lives of my grandparents. My grandfather was a master mariner by profession. He sailed in the American Merchant Marine from the 1920s to the 1940s, circumnavigating the globe more than 25 times. His wartime service was as captain of the Liberty ship, SS John Fiske, whose identifying plaque from the ship’s bridge is on the eastern exterior wall next to the steering wheel. When they retired in the 1970s, my grandparents chose this location so that he and my grandmother could have a quiet life in the woods, but at the same time could see the horizon and part of the sea.
The tree-top setting is just a half-mile from the town of Inverness with its store, post office, café, and restaurants; and a ten-minute drive from the restaurants, shops and weekend Farmers’ Market of Point Reyes Station. Beaches, hiking trails and the Point Reyes National Seashore are within walking distance or a short car ride, and the south-facing deck is sunny and warm all day. But don't take our word for it--read what the New York Times had to say about Salt Water, the local restaurant, and the delights of the wider area. '36 hours in Marin County', 27 Jan. 2013.
We hope that you enjoy our house, enter into its spirit enjoying the views of Tomales Bay, the hills, woods and beaches of western Marin and Elephant Mountain bathed in the ever- changing light of the Point Reyes Peninsula, a very special ‘Island in Time’.

1-- We have a strict low noise policy after 10pm please respect fellow guests.
2--We ask that you please respect this house as a no-smoking environment, this includes all deck areas (this is because of fire concerns, Inverness is high risk fire zone).
3--We also ask that you remove street shoes on the deck or in the kitchen.
4--No pets in the house, please.
5--If you accidentally stain the carpet PLEASE let us know so that we can clean it in a timely manner.
6--The upper deck of the house is also available on Airbnb, it is a great option to rent both for larger groups.
Beautiful little place perfect for a weekend romantic getaway. The view is gorgeous and it feels very private. All the amenities we needed. Close to anything one might need. I would come back here in a second. The host was very cordial as well!
Spectacular sunrise. The basement flat is very clean and covers all the basics, but we arrived at night and couldn't really tell how amazing this place was until the sun came up and we drank coffee on the deck looking over treetops to tomales bay. Seriously gorgeous place to work at your laptop for a few hours and then go on a hike.
One note is that it is underneath the main floor of the house so depending on the number of people/dogs overhead it may be noisy.
The house was exactly as pictured. It was a beautiful area in Tomales Bay. The house had all the amenities we needed: pots and pans for cooking, washer and dryer, queen size bed, cozy gas fireplace, and beautiful deck.
Unfortunately it was raining off and on during our stay, but we were still able to do fresh oysters and wonderful hikes in the surrounding area during our one night visit celebrating our 5th anniversary.
It is important to point out that we stayed in the downstairs unit and unknown guests chosen by the host will be sharing the house (in the upper unit). Our guests were less than pleasant and decided to stay up till 6am partying and yelling, which was less than ideal for a 1 night getaway for an anniversary.
If the right group is sharing the house though, you are assured a wonderful stay.
Hope this helps anyone looking.
I apologize that the upstairs guests were partying and carrying on, we have a strict low noise policy after 10pm which is noted in the House rules. We wish you would have notified us as it was occurring and we would have resolved the issue immediately. We are happy to hear that you were able to enjoy the property and your stay otherwise.
The views were absolutely breathtaking, the bed was very comfortable and the fireplace made our stay super romantic. Thank you! We will definitely be hoping to stay again, hopefully for longer than one night. When we needed to check in early the host was quick to respond and very accommodating.
We had a wonderful weekend here. Beautiful view of the bay during the day and stars at night. We really enjoyed the patio deck, fully equipped kitchen, gas grill, and fireplace. Thanks for providing great directions and local tips for our stay.
The good news is that this listing description is 100% accurate, so if you are looking for a quiet, private, comfortable hideaway right in Inverness with deck views of Tomales Bay then look no further. Justinian has everything set up incredibly well so it's extremely easy to get hold of keys etc., and even easier to forget that you're actually not staying in your own place. Thanks for a brilliant weekend!
Justinian had great instructions and very easy communication.
The place is private and nicely hidden away. We only did an overnight, but could see going back for a longer stay. Great location for hikes, in town eats or just hiding away and admiring the view.

I am a wine broker living in San Francisco. This house has been in our family for my entire life, and I have grown up swimming in the bay, hiking the hills and surfing the oceans around this beautiful part of California.
