A professional artist and actress have a sweet, small guest room available for an overnight guest or someone wanting to stay the weekend to enjoy Portland. I'm Mark an artist, a painter and L.M.T. My wife, Wendy, is an actress, comedienne and singer. We have a charming, arty, house in the Richmond neighborhood in the southeast of Portland. Its an easy walk to the Clinton St. theater to the west or the Bagdad theater on Hawthorne boulevard to the north with all kinds of shops and restaurants nearby. Its become a foodie destination up and down Division St. and down to the little Clinton "village" that has art galleries, restaurants, a coffee house and nice bar with live music as well as the theater with interesting unusual movies and the long running Rocky Horror Picture show on Saturday nights, since 1976.
We have a garden all around the house with interesting sitting areas and a deck with a hot tub... an in house spa for massage and hot tub if you like. Wendy and I both like to cook and like to host guests for breakfasts here. We have had friends stay in our guest room and it's so much fun to host them we thought, why not host a friend we haven't met yet who wants to come and enjoy a short stay in Portland. We would be an ideal place for a single person to come and enjoy a homey, arty, place with personality while staying in an interesting Portland neighborhood. The next street over, Division St., keeps filling up with interesting restaurants, coffee shops, bars, bistros and novelty shops with a good dose of vintage and collectible stores all within a few blocks of us. We can point you towards all kinds of interesting things to see and do nearby.
When you come I will greet you or tell you where to get the key to let yourself in and find your room upstairs on the left.
We respect your privacy, leave you be in your room and you have easy access to come and go as you like but we welcome you to join us for breakfast, and enjoy getting acquainted with you if you are so inclined.
Some of Portland's favorite restaurants, (Pok Pok, Nuestra Cucina, Bollywood, Ava Marie's, St. Jack's)., vintage and collectible shops, tea and coffee houses and more all all within easy walking distance. Yet our house and most all the neighbors live in hundred year old craftsman style bungalows making for a nice tree lined neighborhood good for walking in all directions.
The frequent service #4 Division/St.Johns bus is a block away to take you on a ride through downtown past Pioneer Square towards the train station through China town across the river over to the Lloyds center and on to the Mississippi St. neighborhood for lots more fun. You can continue all the way out to the little town of St. Johns if you want to take a mini tour of Portland then turn around and come back towards our house. On the way back it goes back through Mississippi to the Rose Garden where the Lloyd Center mall is, through China town and downtown and across the river to Hawthorne Blvd. then over to Division street and up to where you get off for our house on 34th st.
If you're coming from the airport take the Max line to the Rose Garden then transfer to the #4 Division st. bus to bring you here.
Spent a couple nights with Mark & Wendy in SE PDX. They are a hilarious, delightful couple with amazing verve for life. Immediately invited me into their room to watch the Oscars after sending me out into the neighborhood to check out an art walk. Will definitely be stopping by to check in soon. Super cozy!
This was one of my best experiences with airbnb (not that I've had any bad ones).
Mark & Wendy are simple sweet, warm, open-hearted people, and their house is wonderful. I look forward to staying with them again.
This was my first airbnb experience - Mark & Wendy made it so excellent. Cozy, comfortable, quiet room in a super location for mass transit. I got hugs when I left, need I say more? Hope to see them again soon.
Mark and Wendy are positive folks. Mark took me out for music the night I arrived, and gave me a tour of the city the next morning. The house, and the guest room, are delightful, as one would expect of an artist house. The huge shower is unique with artsy tile. Extremely good value.
I'm so glad I booked this night at Mark & Wendy's! My house was flooded and I wrote them fairly late in the evening but they responded within minutes! :) I felt very at home and the bed was so comfortable I had the greatest nights sleep in a long time. They are very kind, thoughtful, and really want to take care of their guests. Definitely recommend them :)
Mark and Wendy were very entertaining hosts and their eclectic home is located in a wonderful neighborhood with restaurants galore. I will never forget my stay with them!
Mark and Wendy are perfect. You will feel beyond welcome in their home and get to enjoy their artistic talents and conversation throughout the house. If you have a four legged friend in tow, be careful they may end up begging to stay! I look forward to seeing them both around portland.
A nice cozy room in a friendly house. I didn't get to meet Wendy but Mark was very friendly and helpful. A pleasant home away from home.
