About This Listing
Our guest room has antiques and original art like the rest of our bungalow style house. Enjoy the deck and gardens, hot tub and massage then walk through our tree lined residential neighborhood to Portland's major foodie destination, Division Street
A professional artist and actress have a sweet, small guest room available for an overnight guest or someone wanting to stay the weekend to enjoy Portland as well as longer stays if you need.
I'm Mark an artist, a painter and L.M.T. My wife, Wendy, is an actress, comedienne and singer. We have a charming, arty, house in the Richmond neighborhood in the southeast of Portland. Its an easy walk to the Clinton St. theater to the west or the Bagdad theater on Hawthorne boulevard to the north with all kinds of shops and restaurants nearby. Division St. a block away with Pok Pok, Ava Gene's, Bollywood Theater, and Nuestra Cucina as well as numerous smaller bakeries and coffee shops has become quite the foodie destination street with vintage and novelty shops as well. Walk down through our tree lined residential neighborhood to the little Clinton "village" that has art galleries, restaurants, a coffee house and nice bar, The Press Club, with live music as well as the Clinton Theater with interesting unusual movies and the longest running Rocky Horror Picture show on Saturday nights.
We have a garden around the house with interesting sitting areas and a deck with a hot tub... an in house spa if you like. Wendy and I both like to cook and like to host guests for breakfasts here. We had friends stay in our guest room before and we thought - why not host a friend we haven't met yet So if you're new to Airbnb be sure to fill in your profile page and post an accurate picture of yourself so we can get an idea of who we might be inviting into our home. We would be an ideal place for a single person to come and enjoy a homey, arty place with personality while staying in an interesting Portland neighborhood. We could accommodate two by adding a futon. We can point you towards all kinds of interesting things to see and do nearby and throughout the city.
When you come I will greet you or tell you where to get the key to let yourself in and find your room at the top of the stairs.
Interaction with Guests
We respect your privacy, leave you be in your room and you have easy access to come and go as you like but we welcome you to join us for breakfast, and enjoy getting acquainted with you if you are so inclined. You could book a massage and have a hot tub if you want to relax at the end of the day.
Some of Portland's favorite restaurants are close by: Pok Pok, Nuestra Cucina, Bollywood Theater, Ava Gene's, St. Jack's are withing walking distance, Olympic Provisions, Bistro Montage, Delta Cafe, Evoe, and Le Pigeon are not far away. Vintage and collectible shops, tea and coffee houses and more all all within easy walking distance. Yet our house and most all the neighbors live in hundred year old craftsman style bungalows making for a nice tree lined neighborhood good for walking in all directions.
The frequent service #4 Division/St.Johns bus is a block away to take you on a ride through downtown past Pioneer Square towards the train station through China town across the river over to the Lloyd center area and on to the Mississippi Ave. neighborhood for lots more fun. You can continue all the way out to the little town of St. Johns if you want to take a mini tour of Portland then turn around and come back towards our house.
On the way back it goes back through Mississippi to the Rose Garden where the Lloyd Center mall is, through China town and downtown and across the river to Hawthorne Blvd. then over to Division street and up to where you get off near our house on 34th st.
If you're coming from the airport take the Max red line to the Rose Garden then transfer to the #4 Division st. bus to bring you here.

We keep our prices low so people like us can afford a comfortable, fun, visit to Portland.
People from other countries, of other colors with different backgrounds, languages and religions are most welcome.
Our policies and philosophies can be summed up in most of the Beatles songs.
So please - no bigots, racists or rich Republicans trying to pinch pennies.. we ran into that that once. Oy!
We provide a private room with access to your own half bathroom but shared full bath for your shower. We don't drink or smoke, you do what you want outside of the home, just please be considerate. No rolling in roaring drunk after midnight.. however tiptoeing in a little tipsy is o.k. at any hour... this is your home too, after all.
We are seniors, baby boomers, with one over the hill hippy and an unsinkable actress. We like most anyone cool - artists, musicians, actors, adventurers, animal lovers, poets, students and people coming for a
class, convention or workshop or just to see Portland or visit family or friends are most welcome.
When I am practicing massage there needs to be quiet. When I am practicing the violin, plug your ears. We can write back and forth on this site or try talking on the phone for a bit to see if we would be a good fit. Most people are easy to tell at a glance from your profile photo. We welcome friends of Bill, trees, earth, animals and in Wendy's case - fashion and fun. We want to have your stay with us be comfortable, casual and carefree. We have a new puppy, a Havanese, that is non allergenic and is never allowed in the guest room or massage room. If you have a dog that likes other dogs it would probably work out fine.
Mark and Wendy were perfect hosts for our stay. They went out of their way to make us feel at home and welcomed. Mark had gotten an AC for us knowing that it was going to be extremely hot in Portland and made sure we had water bottles and occasional cool drinks to keep us hydrated. In addition, the hosts checked in with us to provide their local wisdom on where to visit and what to eat in the neighborhood. The last day Mark met up with us downtown and let us in the Art Museum using his membership. We could not have been better treated as their guests.
Their house was so cozy and cute just like the pictures indicated and it was the most leafy house on the street with many trees and plants to admire.
Overall, our stay in Portland was definitely enhanced by our lovely hosts and I highly recommend this place if anybody would like to visit Portland in the future.
Mark and Wendy were amazing amazing hosts! My boyfriend and I decided to visit Portland for a few days are were so lucky to stay with them! 6 stars!
From the very beginning, things were great. Communication with Mark and Wendy was frequent and clear -- very good instructions as to finding the house, getting in, etc. When we arrived Mark was at home and was very welcoming and personable. The room was very very clean and very very comfortable. We had arrived in the Portland heat wave, and Mark had just installed an air conditioning unit so we would not cook in the room, which was very much appreciated! There was a single bed, but Mark had constructed a really cool extension so it was transformed into a larger bed so my boyfriend and I could sleep more comfortably. Mark and Wendy have thought of everything -- there were lots of plugs with which to plug things in; a typed list of instructions and answers to FAQs; bottles of water and hand lotion for us to use. The bathroom is shared and is extremely clean and nice. We never ran into any trouble in terms of bathroom scheduling etc.
Their place is located in a great neighborhood that has a lot of fun things to do and eat! (And drink!) Mark and Wendy gave us tons of recommendations and we followed them up and were never disappointed! And this leads to the best part -- Mark and Wendy! They were so friendly and inviting. We were lucky enough to have some time to chat with them a bit and get to know them. Really wonderful, kind and cool people. We hope very much to return to Portland and hope Mark and Wendy will be free -- sending much love from IL you guys! :D
Kate, It was so great to have you stay with us. we feel like we are really fortunate to have such bright beautiful wonderful souls as you come stay with us. Of course you are welcome back any time.. The spring is exceptionally beautiful and blooming and the fall has glorious golden days without such blasted heat which has only gotten worse since you were here.
Mark & Wendy have a lovely home in a great neighborhood of Portland, and are some of the sweetest, most gracious hosts I've ever encountered! They were kind enough to install a window AC unit in their guest room since the temperatures were in the low 90s the day we arrived. I would love to stay with them again next time I'm down in Portland.
I had the absolute *best* time staying with Mark and Wendy. They're both incredibly kind, welcoming and generous people. I had a lovely time getting to know them and enjoying their beautiful, unique home. I can't say enough good things about this place, so just stay there and find out for yourself! Eternally grateful I had the opportunity to spend time here.
Of course you're welcome back here any time and know that you just scratched the surface, I should have clued you in on the more unique to only Portland type of places that are kind of strange and fun at the same time. Come back with your mom, we'll find a way to make you both comfortable.
Mark and Wendy are just the loveliest people and the sweetest hosts! They were both so warm and welcoming, and I ended up having wonderful conversations with them both. I came to Portland within an agenda besides getting to know the city, and they each gave me great tips on what to do and how to get around. The room was cosy and comfortable, and made a very restful spot to return home away from home each night. I had such a wonderful visit that I'm already booked to stay with them again! Thank you both so much!
My experience was great all the way through. Mark gave me simple to follow instructions to the house and kept in contact with me to make sure everything was ok. The house was lovely and it was the perfect place to relax for a few days. Everything about it was wonderful and mark and Wendy also recommended places to go which was helpful.
The cute little room in Mark and Wendy's Portland home was just what I needed for a quick overnight in town. They were wonderfully welcoming. Wish I had had more time with them to learn about their interesting lives!
About the Host, Mark&Wendy
I'm Mark an artist, a painter and L.M.T. My wife, Wendy, is an actress, comedienne and singer. We met thirty years ago at Storefront Theater in downtown Portland. Wendy was so talented I bowed out of acting and took up set design and scenery painting that lead to mural work and now fine art easel painting. I am working on art or practicing massage most every day these days. Wendy has become a stylist and fashion consultant and continues to perform in Portland theater. Our house reflects a love of art, travel, antiques, and oddities.
Beauty sustains us and keeps us feeling alive and we welcome like minded travelers.
We are baby boomers, seniors, arty, lefty, over the hill ex hippies who cling to our old ideals tighter than we do our new ipods.
