About this listing
Our guest room is great for one but can convert for two comfortably. Enjoy antiques, gardens, art, hot tub and massage then walk through our tree lined residential neighborhood to Portland's major foodie destination, Division Street.
A professional artist and actress have a sweet, small guest room available for an overnight guest or someone wanting to stay the weekend to enjoy Portland as well as longer stays if needed. I can convert the twin bed into a comfortable queen size with a futon to make room for couples. Its often the case we book someone and then a boyfriend pops up, that's fine with us but we would ask you to shower together if possible as we have a great big shower and they keep raising the price of water sky high!
I'm Mark an artist, a painter and L.M.T. My wife, Wendy, is an actress, comedienne and singer. We have a charming, arty, house in the Richmond neighborhood in the southeast of Portland. Its an easy walk to the Clinton St. theater to the west or the Bagdad theater on Hawthorne boulevard to the north with all kinds of shops and restaurants nearby. Division St. a block away with Pok Pok, Ava Gene's, Bollywood Theater, and Nuestra Cucina as well as numerous smaller bakeries and coffee shops has become quite the foodie destination street with vintage and novelty shops as well. Walk down through our tree lined residential neighborhood to the little Clinton "village" that has art galleries, restaurants, a coffee house, Broder's restaurant noted for the best breakfasts in town, as well as the Clinton Theater with interesting unusual movies and the longest running Rocky Horror Picture show on Saturday nights.
We have a garden around the house with interesting sitting areas and a deck with a hot tub... an in house spa if you like. Wendy and I both like to cook and like to host guests for breakfasts here. We had friends stay in our guest room before and we thought - why not host a friend we haven't met yet So if you're new to Airbnb be sure to fill in your profile page and post an accurate picture of yourself so we can get an idea of who we might be inviting into our home. We would be an ideal place for a single person to come and enjoy a homey, arty place with personality while staying in an interesting Portland neighborhood. We could accommodate two by adding a futon and convert the twin to a queen sized bed. We can point you towards all kinds of interesting things to see and do nearby and throughout the city.
When you come I will greet you or give you directions beforehand where to get the key to let yourself in and find your room at the top of the stairs on the left..
Interaction with Guests

We keep our prices low so people like us can afford a comfortable, fun, visit to Portland.
People from other countries, of other colors with different backgrounds, languages and religions are most welcome.
Our policies and philosophies can be summed up in most of the Beatles songs.
So please - no bigots, racists or rich Republican tightwads trying to pinch pennies.. we ran into that that once. Oy!
We provide a private room with access to your own half bathroom but shared full bath for your shower. We don't drink or smoke, you do what you want outside of the home, just please be considerate. No rolling in roaring drunk after midnight.. however tiptoeing in a little tipsy is o.k. at any hour... this is your home too, after all.
We are seniors, baby boomers, with one over the hill hippy and an unsinkable actress. We like most anyone cool - artists, musicians, actors, adventurers, animal lovers, poets, students and people coming for a
class, convention or workshop or just to see Portland or visit family or friends are most welcome.
When I am practicing massage there needs to be quiet. When I am practicing the violin, plug your ears. We can write back and forth on this site or try talking on the phone for a bit to see if we would be a good fit. Most people are easy to tell at a glance from your profile photo. We welcome friends of Bill, trees, earth, animals and in Wendy's case - fashion and fun. We want to have your stay with us be comfortable, casual and carefree. We have a new puppy, a Havanese, that is non allergenic and is never allowed in the guest room or massage room. If you have a dog that likes other dogs it would probably work out fine.
Wendy and Mark are truly gifted artists. Their home is lovely, filled with art and antiques, love and Sophie, their adorable Havanese pup. They have unique and admirable qualities, are open hearted and generous, kind and compassionate. It was like finding family in the heart of Portland. The area surrounding their house is fabulous for walking, eating, shopping and just feeling alive. I wanted to immediately book with them again but they were all booked up. Don't miss this opportunity if you yourself are kind, compassionate, generous and have a great sense of humor. You too will feel like you have found dear old friends.
Mark and Wendy are very friendly and welcoming. They made the "check in" process easy even though I was a couple of hours late; they are flexible. I felt very relaxed and right at home. I love their home! Very beautiful old world style. It was on a tree lined neighborhood street with sidewalks; close enough to walk to shops and restaurants. Next time I'm in Portland, I know where I'm staying!
Mark and Wendy are the best hosts one can imagine. Mark waited for me until my very delayed train arrived and Wendy knows everything about the area. They are great fun. I definitely want to come back to their cosy home again.
Mark and Wendy were welcoming hosts and their listing is as described in a pleasant neighborhood conveniently close to shops and restaurants.
Mark and Wendy were lovely hosts. Their house is in a wonderful neighborhood with lots of options for food and drink nearby. They were very accommodating and made sure all my needs were taken care of. They made me feel most welcome and were always offering suggestions for things to do around town. I highly recommend staying with them. They helped make my experience in Portland an unforgettable one.
Very sweet! They didn't mind me checking in late at night after my meetings, and Mark had everything laid out, a sheet of paper with everything explained, and even a little basket of handy things like water and lotion. The AC in the room was particularly nice this hot week. I slept great!
Mark & Wendy were fabulous! Their home is lovely and located in a prime location in SE Portland. You can walk to numerous restaurants and food carts in the area. They were very accommodating and the room was cozy and perfect for a single traveler. The bed was comfy and the window AC worked like a champ. Mark and Wendy are nice genuine people. I plan to stay here again in the future if it's available.
About the Host, Mark&Wendy
I'm Mark an artist, a painter and L.M.T. My wife, Wendy, is an actress, comedienne and singer. We met thirty years ago at Storefront Theater in downtown Portland. Wendy was so talented I bowed out of acting and took up set design and scenery painting that lead to mural work and now fine art easel painting. I am working on art or practicing massage most every day these days. Wendy has become a stylist and fashion consultant and continues to perform in Portland theater. Our house reflects a love of art, travel, antiques, and oddities.
Beauty sustains us and keeps us feeling alive and we welcome like minded travelers.
We are baby boomers, seniors, arty, lefty, over the hill ex hippies who cling to our old ideals tighter than we do our new ipods.
