Our guest room has antiques and original art like the rest of our bungalow style house. Enjoy the deck and gardens, hot tub and massage then walk through our tree lined residential neighborhood to Portland's major foodie destination, Division Street
A professional artist and actress have a sweet, small guest room available for an overnight guest or someone wanting to stay the weekend to enjoy Portland as well as longer stays if you need.
I'm Mark an artist, a painter and L.M.T. My wife, Wendy, is an actress, comedienne and singer. We have a charming, arty, house in the Richmond neighborhood in the southeast of Portland. Its an easy walk to the Clinton St. theater to the west or the Bagdad theater on Hawthorne boulevard to the north with all kinds of shops and restaurants nearby. Division St. a block away with Pok Pok, Ava Gene's, Bollywood Theater, and Nuestra Cucina as well as numerous smaller bakeries and coffee shops has become quite the foodie destination street with vintage and novelty shops as well. Walk down through our tree lined residential neighborhood to the little Clinton "village" that has art galleries, restaurants, a coffee house and nice bar, The Press Club, with live music as well as the Clinton Theater with interesting unusual movies and the longest running Rocky Horror Picture show on Saturday nights.
We have a garden around the house with interesting sitting areas and a deck with a hot tub... an in house spa if you like. Wendy and I both like to cook and like to host guests for breakfasts here. We had friends stay in our guest room before and we thought - why not host a friend we haven't met yet So if you're new to Airbnb be sure to fill in your profile page and post an accurate picture of yourself so we can get an idea of who we might be inviting into our home. We would be an ideal place for a single person to come and enjoy a homey, arty place with personality while staying in an interesting Portland neighborhood. We could accommodate two by adding a futon. We can point you towards all kinds of interesting things to see and do nearby and throughout the city.
When you come I will greet you or tell you where to get the key to let yourself in and find your room at the top of the stairs.
Interaction with Guests
We respect your privacy, leave you be in your room and you have easy access to come and go as you like but we welcome you to join us for breakfast, and enjoy getting acquainted with you if you are so inclined. You could book a massage and have a hot tub if you want to relax at the end of the day.
Some of Portland's favorite restaurants are close by: Pok Pok, Nuestra Cucina, Bollywood Theater, Ava Gene's, St. Jack's are withing walking distance, Olympic Provisions, Bistro Montage, Delta Cafe, Evoe, and Le Pigeon are not far away. Vintage and collectible shops, tea and coffee houses and more all all within easy walking distance. Yet our house and most all the neighbors live in hundred year old craftsman style bungalows making for a nice tree lined neighborhood good for walking in all directions.
The frequent service #4 Division/St.Johns bus is a block away to take you on a ride through downtown past Pioneer Square towards the train station through China town across the river over to the Lloyd center area and on to the Mississippi Ave. neighborhood for lots more fun. You can continue all the way out to the little town of St. Johns if you want to take a mini tour of Portland then turn around and come back towards our house.
On the way back it goes back through Mississippi to the Rose Garden where the Lloyd Center mall is, through China town and downtown and across the river to Hawthorne Blvd. then over to Division street and up to where you get off near our house on 34th st.
If you're coming from the airport take the Max red line to the Rose Garden then transfer to the #4 Division st. bus to bring you here.
Other Things to Note
If you want to stay with us be sure to complete your profile page so we can get an idea of who you are and if we would want you to visit us in our home. If you are new to Airbnb - go do that now and make sure the picture is of you, not your shoes or your dog.
We keep our prices low so people like us can afford a comfortable, fun, visit to Portland.
People from other countries, of other colors with different backgrounds, languages and religions are most welcome.
Our policies and philosophies can be summed up in most of the Beatles songs.
So please - no bigots, racists or rich Republicans trying to pinch pennies.. we ran into that that once. Oy!
We provide a private room with access to your own half bathroom but shared full bath for your shower. We don't drink or smoke, you do what you want outside of the home, just please be considerate. No rolling in roaring drunk after midnight.. however tiptoeing in a little tipsy is o.k. at any hour... this is your home too, after all.
We are seniors, baby boomers, with one over the hill hippy and an unsinkable actress. We like most anyone cool - artists, musicians, actors, adventurers, animal lovers, poets, students and people coming for a
class, convention or workshop or just to see Portland or visit family or friends are most welcome.
When I am practicing massage there needs to be quiet. When I am practicing the violin, plug your ears. We can write back and forth on this site or try talking on the phone for a bit to see if we would be a good fit. Most people are easy to tell at a glance from your profile photo. We welcome friends of Bill, trees, earth, animals and in Wendy's case - fashion and fun. We want to have your stay with us be comfortable, casual and carefree. We have a new puppy, a Havanese, that is non allergenic and is never allowed in the guest room or massage room. If you have a dog that likes other dogs it would probably work out fine.
I really liked staying with Mark and Wendy in their wonderful house. They are great hosts and were very helpful in every way. The bedroom was cozy and the bed very comfortable. I loved the neighborhood. And parking was not an issue. I look forward to staying there again.
I had a wonderful stay with Mark and Wendy. They are warm and friendly; both interesting and interested. The house is charming, filled with eye candy, and in an ideal location. Their puppy, Sadie, is absolutely adorable. I felt like I was visiting with friends and I will certainly stay with them again.
What a great first airbnb experience!
Mark and Wendy were amazing hosts!!
They touched me as their family even though I stayed only 3 days.
The best list which I've stayed!!
I really want to go back to their house.
My experience here was not the usual experience here. I stayed at this house when the street was under construction. It was very difficult to sleep as while the road outside was being destroyed to accommodate piping and it would shake the entire house for hours. This is not the hosts' fault. They were nice. They were very busy with art projects.
I had a peaceful and restful time at Mark and Wendy's home. I was greeted warmly by Mark and their cute puppy, Sadie. I was there for a QUIET retreat, and was given space to just BE and BREATHE. Their home was comfortable and cozy! The guest bedroom has everything that one could ask for to be self-contained and the shared bathroom was right outside the door. Mark and Wendy are very hospitable. I plan on staying there again when I am in need of another QUIET retreat.
I'm glad you got a little bit of a getaway. There are small "post it" tablets in the wicker holder with all the maps. Wendy says its paper she wipes her makeup off with.
The construction will all be over with in a couple weeks or so - they say - and it will be back to normal quiet, although Clinton does get busy with bicycles in the summer.
Your headphones and mouse are in a paper bag beneath the table with the pumpkin on the front porch. July and August the room might be too hot as we don't have air conditioning and that is a west facing room that gets full sun in the afternoon. The rest of the time I think it should be quiet and comfortable enough for you.
Mark and Wendy made me feel right at home. Their house was cozy and filled with lots of character. Sadie was an added bonus. I was visiting to attend a class so was on a tight schedule. However, I was able to get in a walk with Mark and Sadie to see the neighborhood. We ate pie, listened to music and shared stories. Wendy was busy with her show so only saw her for little bits. The neighborhood had lots to offer and was pretty central for getting around. My room was just the right size and the shower was a work of art in its own right. I would recommend a visit with this lovely, kind couple and their sweet puppy.
Their warm and artsy home was exactly the right place for me on my trip out to explore the North West.
So helpful and kind and the neighborhood had so much going on.
I really appreciated the extra effort that Mark put forth to share his love of Portland.
When I mentioned I played guitar he let me borrow his. When I was about to spend money on a cab he laid out an easy bud route that ended up giving me mini tour of Portland.
They are lovely people with fantastic positive energy .I highly recommend them for all sorts of travelers. They are so flexible. I'm now a Portland fan!
I'm Mark an artist, a painter and L.M.T. My wife, Wendy, is an actress, comedienne and singer. We met thirty years ago at Storefront Theater in downtown Portland. Wendy was so talented I bowed out of acting and took up set design and scenery painting that lead to mural work and now fine art easel painting. I am working on art or practicing massage most every day these days. Wendy has become a stylist and fashion consultant and continues to perform in Portland theater. Our house reflects a love of art, travel, antiques, and oddities.
Beauty sustains us and keeps us feeling alive and we welcome like minded travelers.
We are baby boomers, seniors, arty, lefty, over the hill ex hippies who cling to our old ideals tighter than we do our new ipods.
