The location of this home was great, if you are looking to be in a residential area rather than in the commercial district. It was a short walk to the central district and there were other shops not far away. We do not speak Spanish, so it was hard to communicate with the local contact there (Marcelo's grandfather). But Marcelo made himself available by phone and email, so it worked fine. We would definitely consider staying at this house again.
This house was exactly as described. It was wonderful to stay in and I would defiantly go back. It's so close to the Center of Cuenca. And is a really an amazing place.
This second floor apartment appeared exactly as advertised on Airbnb. It was spacious and full of light from windows and skylights. The house provides a nice insight into the way Cuencan families live. I found the house was similar to those of my Ecuadorian family living in Cuenca.
We found the house very dusty on arrival. The bathrooms and kitchen had been cleaned for us, but with a light hand. We immediately went shopping to buy toilet paper, paper towels, scrub sponges, and wipes to use in the house. We spent quite a bit of time wiping and sweeping to make ourselves comfortable in the space.
The house does not have central heating, and can get cold at night. (Again, very representative of Cuenca houses!) All our beds had plenty of warm blankets. There was also a portable electric heater in one bedroom, but we never needed to use it. I recommend that visitors bring house slippers and light sweaters to use in the house, if they tend to feel chilly.
The location was perfect for our family of five. We were a short, pleasant walk away from the Centro, and taxis are easy to catch on Avenida Loja, a half block away. The house is very close to the University of Cuenca. My family warned me to avoid walking home at night, as they have heard of robberies around the Iglesia de San Roque. I felt comfortable walking during the day and early evening, however. To go home at night, we used a taxi. There is great security at the house, with an alarm system and a formidable gate, so we always felt secure inside.
Marcelo, our Airbnb contact, was extremely quick to respond to inquiries by email. Our hosts in Cuenca, Marcelo's family, were also very nice. I hope to stay in their house again on future visits!
This apartment in Cuenca was amazing. Very spacious and comfortably slept the 6 of us. Great location, easy access to food, sites and the city center. I would recommend this place to anyone.
This apartment is in the perfect location. It's in a quiet residential neighborhood but close enough to walk to parks, the historical district, stores, cafes etc. The owners of this duplex are very kind and attentive. We requested a larger pan for cooking and they bought a new one for us to use. I would recommend this rental to anyone who has a family or large group because this apartment is very spacious.
The house wasn't cleaned for a long time, dust was layered everywhere, one of the toilets was leaking and every flush the sewage was getting on the floor to be stepped on,
the toilet was soiled on arrival and the managers refused to clean it, she did clean the microwave after I pointed it out but then left the dirty towel on the counter. There was a huge 4" spider or tarantula under the toilet seat that I almost sat on and my friend had to chase in the dark because the lights were not working, and when they did they
blinked on and off after they were turned off so I had to remove the bulb to get some sleep.
But the worse of all was the shower that cut off hot water after 1 minute and did it again when I came back in to rinse the shampoo, after freezing for 5 minutes only to have the hot water cut off
again, after 1 minute. I asked the neighbors if they used the shower at the same time but they didn't.
Do they have it on the timer?
If I was to describe the comfort level of this place, a truck stop comes to mind. I had to throw away a pair of shoes because I couldn't get the smell of sewage off them. The experience was mortifying. There was a nice view from the roof.
The house is cleaned after a guest leaves and before a guest arrives, this review is false, in fact the guest asked for a refund or else she would leave this, no other guess has described my place as a "truck stop" and I find that highly offensive. I hope future guests disregard this review because it untrue.
