The space

This home in the heart of Cuenca with convenient distance to many attractions and popular restaurants, bars, markets. Lies 7 blocks from the city's Central Park. One block away from the Universidad Estatal de Cuenca. Walking distance from banks and groceries. Overall this is located at a great distance from everything there is to do in the city, whether its tourism our nightlife.

2nd floor apartment has 2 living rooms, 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms (1 in the master bedroom), kitchen with appliances. It also has anterior and posterior balconies along with an upstairs terrace with views of colonial Cuenca. The apartment over all is rather large fully furnished with free broad band internet. The home is in a quiet and peaceful family neighborhood. My grandma lives in the home across the street, and down the block around the corner the is the San Roque Church and plaza.

Parking for 3 cars. Automatic Garage. Pets allowed.

The house has two apartments and is totally private you will not be sharing with any "hosts." This listing is for the 2nd floor that is available now for renting. The apartment is large and can actually host a lot more than 4 people, at an extra charge per night per person. The farther in advance the better we can try to accommodate additional guest. If you are interested in something smaller for fewer people please view the listing for the first floor. If you wish to rent the entire House, both floors, please message me to see if we can reach a special offer depending on the length of stay.

Updates: Recently I've added cable TV on both floors. There is also portable heaters (radiators) on both floors as well. There is a Top of the line alarm system as well throughout the property

I currently live in Brooklyn, New York, United States, Please feel free to contact me with any particular questions. You can also reach me at (website hidden)

The neighborhood

The neighborhood had the Plaza San Roque Church near a small plaza surrounded by cobble stone. The home is 10-20 minutes walking distance from EL Centro depending on your pace, but feel free to email me or call and i can forward some pics with directions through (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps!

Other things to note

House has a TOP-NOTCH security system b|c it was newly built. Neighborhood is safe (my grandma and aunt have homes 4 minutes away) but electric gates and fences are a bonus with an alarm system that if triggered automatically contact the PD.

This is a great home in a beautiful location of Cuenca. We only had one problem with the listing (more on that later) which I didn't factor into the review because the home is great and Marcelo and his grandfather were very accommodating. We arrived in Cuenca at 3am and we were traveling with a 2 month old so Marcelo allowed my father-in-law to check in the day prior, get the keys, and place a crib at the home. This allowed us to get settled as soon as we arrived at 3am. This was very much appreciated. The problem that we had is that we booked the home for 8 guests but Marcelo's grandfather was under the impression that we were going to be a total of 5 guests. During checkout the grandfather was demanding more money for the additional 3 guests. Even though I showed the reservation details to the grandfather, which clearly stated 8 guests, the father continued to demand more money. I didn't factor this inconvenience into my review because like I said, prior to this situation Marcelo and his grandfather had gone above and beyond to accommodate our extremely early arrival.

Response from Marcelo:
It was great hosting you Will! And yes like Will explained there was a mix-up. I personally love in Brooklyn, NY but try to rent out our homes because someone might as well enjoy them ! Unfortunately sometimes coordinating from Brooklyn and relaying things to my family in Ecuador things get lost in translation. But as Will commented it was quickly resolved :) thanks for your review will !

Communication from Marcelo was great, the apartment was easy to find with the directions given, and just under a $5 cab ride from the airport. His family was waiting at the apartment and gave us the keys, instructions and towels, they were also very helpful. The apartment was clean and the furnishings were nice and comfortable, the kitchen was nicely stocked with everything we needed for our cooking needs. The apartment is in a great location it is a easy 10-15min walk to downtown we only used a taxi to go to the supermarket and that was a short $1.50 cab ride. Overall great experience and we felt right at home staying here.

The location of this home was great, if you are looking to be in a residential area rather than in the commercial district. It was a short walk to the central district and there were other shops not far away. We do not speak Spanish, so it was hard to communicate with the local contact there (Marcelo's grandfather). But Marcelo made himself available by phone and email, so it worked fine. We would definitely consider staying at this house again.

This house was exactly as described. It was wonderful to stay in and I would defiantly go back. It's so close to the Center of Cuenca. And is a really an amazing place.

This second floor apartment appeared exactly as advertised on Airbnb. It was spacious and full of light from windows and skylights. The house provides a nice insight into the way Cuencan families live. I found the house was similar to those of my Ecuadorian family living in Cuenca. We found the house very dusty on arrival. The bathrooms and kitchen had been cleaned for us, but with a light hand. We immediately went shopping to buy toilet paper, paper towels, scrub sponges, and wipes to use in the house. We spent quite a bit of time wiping and sweeping to make ourselves comfortable in the space. The house does not have central heating, and can get cold at night. (Again, very representative of Cuenca houses!) All our beds had plenty of warm blankets. There was also a portable electric heater in one bedroom, but we never needed to use it. I recommend that visitors bring house slippers and light sweaters to use in the house, if they tend to feel chilly. The location was perfect for our family of five. We were a short, pleasant walk away from the Centro, and taxis are easy to catch on Avenida Loja, a half block away. The house is very close to the University of Cuenca. My family warned me to avoid walking home at night, as they have heard of robberies around the Iglesia de San Roque. I felt comfortable walking during the day and early evening, however. To go home at night, we used a taxi. There is great security at the house, with an alarm system and a formidable gate, so we always felt secure inside. Marcelo, our Airbnb contact, was extremely quick to respond to inquiries by email. Our hosts in Cuenca, Marcelo's family, were also very nice. I hope to stay in their house again on future visits!
