The Aloha Studio is a 400 square foot comfortable and private studio for 2 but can accommodate up to 4 using the futon couch. We are located within a 15 minute walk to the Alberta street shops, Kennedy school and New Seasons.
Welcome to the Aloha Portland Studio! Just behind and completely separate from the main house in front, follow the path past the urban chicken coop to find this 400 sq. foot one bathroom studio. The studio is one big area divided into a bedroom, living room and kitchen using 6 foot tall walls that don't touch the ceiling but are still able to give you the feel of privacy within a big and open area.
Located in the lively and popular neighborhood of the Alberta Arts District, this is the perfect home base that will satisfy all your needs if you are a single, couple or family visiting Portland. We also ask that children over 5 are included in the guest count.
This studio has air conditioning, internet access, a DVD player, netflix, hulu plus (at this time we do not get any actual television channels, sorry) microwave, refrigerator, washing machine but no dryer, toaster, dishes, coffee maker, there is a kitchen sink and an electric hot plate. An outdoor table and chairs on the patio provide a lovely sitting area.

If you accidentally freeze up the lock box by entering the wrong code too many times, we do have an actual key which you are welcome to. Simply call or text us and we will let you know how to get the key.
We encourage you to text or call us any time you have any questions or need anything during your stay.

Other Things to Note
Additional things to know:
* Keep in mind you are in a commonly rainy residential neighborhood. Sometimes there are power outages that happen during storms which prevent us from getting your tv, lights or microwave on. There is a battery operated light for emergency a which can be found under the kitchen sink next to the fire extinguisher.
*The house is near an intersection. However, you cannot hear much traffic noise at all from inside the studio and it is far enough away from the Alberta strip to get some peace and quiet when you are ready to sleep.
*The gas heater is metal and makes clicks as it starts to heat up. This is the metal expanding with the heat.
*The neighbors garage is right next to the studio. When they take out their trash you might hear a noise. I guess that is to be expected when you live in the city but we thought we would just mention everything.
*The studio is around the back and there are plenty of signs pointing your way. It is a self service stay but please feel free to contact us through text or internet if you need us at any time.
*Smoking outside only please
*Quiet time after 10pm and before 8am
*There is plenty street parking around the corner from the house on 34th but do to the strange intersection it is not reccommended to park on Prescott.
*We want your trip to Portland to be wonderful and for everything to be in working order for you. If there are any problems at all please let us know immediately we will do our best to make sure you leave satisfied with your stay.
I wanted to visit Portland for my birthday based on all the great things I heard about it, so when I saw that Megan & Neil's place was available (they get booked quickly), I immediately sent them a request & I'm so grateful they accepted. My experience at the studio was perfect -- from the minute they accepted my request and sent me the info I knew that Megan & Neil were the type of hosts for me.
The studio is perfectly located near the Alberta District (FYI, I used public transit and walked -- no car for me) with bus stops all around (I bought the 5 day pass), and it was very easy to get around. Portland's transit system is WAY easier than SF and NY. The neighborhood feels safe at all times of the day, and I was walking around pretty late.
The studio is within walking distance of some amazing restaurants and good bars. There are so many places in the area, that I guarantee you will not have enough time to visit the places you bookmark -- I know I didn't. My all-time favorite was the Kennedy School -- that place is so freakin' cool. You must go there! T
The studio itself is absolutely PERFECT. Megan & Neil have thought of EVERYTHING. Think you forgot something? Chances are it's in the studio. The pictures don't do it justice -- you just have to be there. The place is clean, the bed is comfortable, and it feels like home.
There was almost a bump in the road when I saw that the Purple Rain vinyl was missing... It was sad. But then I just connected the aux cable (this place does have everything) to my phone and my friends and I were rockin' to some Prince, Bowie, and The Beatles. It's that kind of place where you feel right at home -- whether you're chillin' on the hammock or sitting near the fire pit with an ice cold beer; you feel relaxed.
Megan & Neil's hospitality really taught me a lot about Portland -- it's all about community; it's about having fun & relaxing. During one night of my stay, my friend's and I just decided to stay in, make some s'mores with the supplies Megan left for us, and busted out the board games.
Thanks for the wonderful experience, Megan & Neil! I hope to visit Portland again and stay at the Aloha studio (if you'll have me).
-Arnold, Katie, and Sharon.
p.s. Thank you for accommodating my friend last minute!
My wife and I took a trip to Portland with our 3 year old son and our experience couldn't have been better. Megan and the Aloha Studio really went above and beyond to make sure our stay was easy and special. The first thing we saw was a personalized chalkboard sign of our names and we immediately felt welcomed, excited and relieved.
Inside there are many directions to the studio and how things work. There are many suggestions of things to do. We could be at the studio for a month and not complete the book of things to do which Megan and Niel provided!
Inside there was a children's table and gift basket for our 3 year old son. There was a little castle tent for him to play in as well. It is the perfect place to stay if you have a little one. There is also 2 beds which works out great since the windmilling toddler can only sleep with one of us at a time.
The chickens were our son's favorite thing. He loved waking up and saying good morning to them. When we were out he said we have to get back and say goodnight to them. It made us want to get our own!
The fire pit outside with the hammock was also super nice. Megan left a s'mores kit that we never got around to but just having it there was special.
The neighborhood is great for the Alberta stuff and the Kennedy School Nearby. Also the Fremont area is close as well.
In the end this was a really great place with instructions everywhere to never let you feel lost. It was cozy and had everything you need. I can't really think of anything I would change or add.
Great spot in a great neighborhood! So many accommodations including yummy chocolates, comfortable furnishings and tons of information on Portland and the immediate area. The chickens were adorable and brightened my day every time when I got to feed them some corn. The house was clean and had pretty much everything you needed for a comfortable stay. Thank you so much!
Our stay at Aloha Studio was far more than we could have guessed from the lovely description and comments. It's clear that Megan and Neil have thought this place through down to the record collection, and that they truly enjoy hosting people on their trips to Portland. Megan was incredibly accommodating and quick to respond. Although we got in late due to air travel delays, we were immediately stuck by how inviting, relaxing, and fun the Aloha Studio is!
Every bit of information that you might need to take advantage of the Aloha Studio, the Alberta & Portland area, and even to collect your fresh eggs in the morning is at your fingers tips. Special thanks to the adorable and happy crew of Shiva, Zelda, the other chicken whose name we've forgotten, and of course Cheeks! Parking was very easy, and although we were primarily in Portland for a conference during our stay, we got a sense of Alberta (and why we want to come back so much) from the Aloha Studio guide books. We were thoroughly impressed by how tastefully and efficiently Megan and Neil designed and decorated this backyard cottage. Their warmth, humor, and love of hosting certainly shines through. We'll definitely be coming back...
We couldn't have been happier with our stay at the Aloha Studio!! Every detail was thought of by Megan before we even knew we had the question - down to details about the property and maps to take with us walking. The website has so much info on the area and Megan was so easy to reach and helpful. The chickens were a highlight of our whole vacation for our boys and Megan came out as we left to let them hold them before they said goodbye. I loved collecting and cooking fresh eggs in the morning also. It is modernly decorated and clean, provided plenty of space and has a fantastic backyard. Check in and out was effortless. I'd recommend this studio without hesitation and would love to stay again.
In a word: wow. My girlfriend and I were amazed by the quality, size and price of this rental, especially considering it's location. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The host was very accommodating with our travel delays and provided a really fabulous experience. Highly recommended!
We had a great stay at Backyard Cottage Oasis (4 people total, 2 nights)!
The house was very clean and accommodating to our needs, and the backyard was a perfect little space to relax in.
Meagan and Neil were fantastic host, helping with any questions we had and were flexible to our schedule!
About the Host, Megan
We are pleased that you are considering our studio for your trip to Portland and want to do everything we can to make you feel at home. A little bit about us (Megan and Neil), we met online and got married on a downtown Portland rooftop in 2013. We now have a little baby girl who makes us very happy but keeps us very busy. The studio that you are staying in was originally Megan's massage studio but with Neil's handy work has now been transformed into this wonderful bnb. In our spare time we have game night, go out to some live music, take the boat out on the river, ride our scooters or head out to eat at one of Portland's many wonderful restaurants. We both share the same passion of finding the ultimate relaxation and hope you enjoy!
