Welcome to the Aloha Portland Studio! Just behind and completely separate from the main house in front, follow the path past the urban chicken coop to find this 400 sq. foot one one bathroom studio. Located in the lively and popular neighborhood of the Alberta Arts District, just a short 10 minute walk from quaint shops, great restaurants and bars, bakeries, art galleries, coffee houses, wine-tasting, $3 movie theater, city park, etc. Just about a $20 (10 min) cab ride from PDX Airport and only a 15 minute car/cab ride ride to get downtown this is the perfect home base that will satisfy all your needs if you are a single, couple or family visiting Portland. This studio has air conditioning, internet access, a DVD player, netflix, hulu plus (at this time we do not get any actual television channels, sorry) microwave, refrigerator, toaster, dishes, coffee maker, there is a kitchen sink and an electric hot plate. An outdoor table and chairs on the patio provide a lovely sitting area.
Nearby places to explore:
Alberta Street- (5-15 minute walk): So much to do here! Unique shops, tons of cafes, yummy food (Bollywood-Indian, La Bonita (vegi options) or La Sirenita- both have inexpensive burritos, ChaBa Thai, Vita Cafe-(great vegan gravy but also caters to meat eaters), Bernies Southern Bistro (good fried Chicken), DarSalam- Middle Eastern, Petite Provence-pastries (wonderful croissants) and breakfast, Pine State Biscuts-(yum for veggies and non) and ending for dessert at Salt and Straw (Ice cream) or Garden of Eden (Vegan Ice cream). Be sure to check out the Last Thursday celebration during the summer months.
Concordia neighborhood (10-15 minute walk): Here we have New Seasons (only 5 blocks away, this great grocery store has tons of organic/healthy food options), McMenamins Kennedy School (fun for kids, inexpensive movies $3, bars, AND a outdoor soaking pool), Common Ground (clothing optional hot tub, sauna and massage options-they have certain hours for just men or women if you prefer), tons of yoga, amazing higher priced restaurants Pok Pok Noi-(sugary chicken wings), Yakuza, Autentica (Mexican), DOC, and Beast. *car2go- must register at least a week before arrival so that you can get your car card in the mail.
*The studio is located near a bus line but because of the transfer it will take around 50 minutes to get you downtown. Or I believe you can walk to 27th street and catch a direct bus. It is best to check (website hidden). A one day pass costs $5.
*A taxi from the house to downtown is about a 15 minute ride and costs around $20-$25.
Check in/Check out:
*Check-in is at 4pm and can normally be performed by yourself at any time and without additional assistance, as you will be emailed the code to open the door. Please let us know if you have any early check-in requests. If there is no one before you on the day you arrive, it might be possible for you to check in early. We would be able to send you an email the night before confirming an early check in. In addition to that, if we can't get you an early check in, then we are happy to store your bags for you as we live in the main house in front.
* Check-out is 12 pm simply because the cleaner needs time to refresh the studio
Additional things to know:
*The house is near an intersection. However, you cannot hear much traffic noise at all from inside the studio and it is far enough away from the Alberta strip to get some peace and quiet when you are ready to sleep.
*The gas heater is metal and makes clicks as it starts to heat up. This is the metal expanding with the heat.
*The neighbors garage is right next to the studio. When they take out their trash you might hear a noise. I guess that is to be expected when you live in the city but we thought we would just mention everything.
*The studio is around the back and there are plenty of signs pointing your way. It is a self service stay but please feel free to contact us through text or internet if you need us at any time.
*Smoking outside only please
*Quiet time after 10pm and before 8am
*There is plenty street parking around the corner from the house on 34th but do to the strange intersection it is not reccomended to park on Prescott.
*We want your trip to Portland to be wonderful and for everything to be in working order for you. If there are any problems at all please let us know immediately we will do our best to make sure you leave satisfied with your stay.
We had a great girls' weekend in Megan and Neil's studio! It was clean, welcoming, comfortable and very convenient. We will definitely recommend to friends and family who visit. Thanks!
It was really an amazing blessing being able to have them work with us last minute on this reservation during the holiday rush. I really needed the space for extra visitors and Megan helped us squeeze in when a lot of places were booked. The neighborhood is right by Alberta and we walked to coffee and breakfast easily. The cottage is quiet and has a perfect balance of ambience and utility.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the Backyard Cottage! The cottage is large, comfortable and very well maintained. The access to the cottage is very private and I felt like I was in my own place. The neighborhood is within easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants on Alberta.
It is not a fluke that the cottage is so highly recommended. I will plan on staying there again during my next trip to Portland.
Wonderful, comfortable, cozy, clean, spacious, home. These are words we would use to describe Megan's place. Everything is meticulously laid out in a really comfortable way. Although the place is a studio, it is really spacious with plenty of room to spread out and make yourself at home. The bedroom and bathroom feel very separate from the main room. The bed is comfy and there are plenty of linens, towels and kitchen items to make yourself at home.
The wifi is quick and street parking easy. Entry into the flat is easy (and keyless). The place is an easy walk to one end of the Alberta Arts District, which has loads of fun places to eat and various shops to wander into. Megan has also left a fantastic binder and map full of suggestions on places to eat around the apartment (including many on Alberta Street). It is also walking distance to a great supermarket and People's Yoga.
We visited in early December, so the weather was chilly and rainy. The cottage was nice and warm on our arrival, and stayed warm throughout our stay. It was so warm and nice, we often didn't want to leave to venture out into the rain! We also really appreciated the lit-up Christmas tree on our arrival.
Megan is super nice and easy to communicate with. We have stayed at quite a few Airbnb places over the past few years, and this has been one of our favourites! We recommend this place wholeheartedly!
We had such a great time at the Aloha Studio! It was a very comfortable space with lots of homey touches like snacks, fresh eggs from the chicken coop out back, a record player and extra towels and blankets. Megan and Neil are super nice and available if you need any help or have questions. And the location is perfect- it's a really quiet and charming neighborhood that's close to a lot of cute coffee shops and stores. It's also very close to the airport.
I felt very welcome in this airbnb. Seeing that the room could accommodate everyone and was set up already was very helpful. I also appreciated having all things used to cook those eggs! The block and neighborhood were spot on, easy walking to Alberta and an easy drive to downtown. All in all a very nice place, location, and welcoming.
The aloha studio was perfect for our family. Traveling with a 2 year old could pose a challenge yet the accommodations yielded a supreme experience. On arrival the studio was clean and well stocked for our stay. Megan and Neil even had a kids basket with toys waiting for us, a kids table and play tent. The chickens where a delight. Having fresh eggs for breakfast every morning was a delicious bonus. Don't forget to indulge in the record collection.
The location of the studio is great. There is a good grocery store just a couple of blocks away and alberta st is around the corner. The binders with activities and restaurant reviews were a mega bonus as well. It made it easy to navigate food and sites for the whole city, but our favorite was right around the corner, Alberta st.
Megan kept in touch and was available. Highest marks as a host and accommodations were a spot on 10.
We are pleased that you are considering our studio for your trip to Portland and want to do everything we can to make you feel at home. A little bit about us (Megan and Neil), we met online and got married on a downtown Portland rooftop in 2013. We now have a little baby girl who makes us very happy but keeps us very busy. The studio that you are staying in was originally Megan's massage studio but with Neil's handy work has now been transformed into this wonderful bnb. In our spare time we have game night, go out to some live music, take the boat out on the river, ride our scooters or head out to eat at one of Portland's many wonderful restaurants. We both share the same passion of finding the ultimate relaxation and hope you enjoy!
