The room is the top floor of wonderful 115-year old carriage house in Mid-Cambridge, half way between Harvard University and MIT. We are equidistant from three major squares in Cambridge – Harvard, Central and Inman Squares. Ten minutes walk to the Red Line, Boston’s subway system connecting to Boston; local bus service is at either end of our street.
We offer a gracious, 500 square foot, third floor bedroom loft suite with a full bathroom. It is open to the floors below via a stair. We provide sheets and towels for our guests’ use. We have a pleasant ground floor living/dining/kitchen area and exterior patio that can be lightly used by our guests. We have internet access. We also have a beautiful, friendly cat, Watson; he is loveable and may visit your room. We do not allow smoking in the house.
It was a very pleasant stay at Chuck's. He and Pat are extremely close and polite people, and made us feel like at home. The room was in perfect state, intimate, cozy, comfortable, with nice views...you won't need anything else!
Chuck and Pat were perfect hosts. They responded promptly to all my messages, met me at the agreed time and did all they could to make my stay in Cambridge a comfortable one. They are both friendly, caring and helpful but also respectful of private space. They provided maps of the area and an umbrella when it was raining outside. They also made welcome recommendations on nearby places to eat. The loft is lovely - spacious and quiet with excellent work spaces and a comfortable chair in which to sit and read. The bed is also great - I would love to have spent more time in it - gazing through the windows at the sky above. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
The Redmons were very welcoming, warm, and friendly. They gave us plenty of information on how to get around locally, as well as a rechargeable Charlie subway card. They also invited us to use their coffee machine in the morning, which was great. The attic room is spacious and comes with a standalone bathroom, which was very important for us, a hanger rack, and a fridge. Note that access to the attic room is through a tight spiral staircase, which might be problematic for people with large pieces of luggage.
The house is ~10 minutes away from Harvard Square and ~25 minutes away from the Center for Astrophysics. There's a nice little supermarket on the way to campus (on Broadway) with an attached Starbucks, which is convenient.
All in all, this is great value for the price. The house is closer to Harvard than it appears to be on online maps, and the hosts are gracious and kind.
Charles and Pat are very warm and welcoming hosts. My wife spent a week in their house in March 2015. Charles provided her with all the useful guidelines how to get there and how move around the neighbourhood. The location of their house is perfect, near Harvard and Central Square. The room was very comfortable with private bathroom. Staying with Charles and Pat gives you both good company and privacy.
The loft at the Redmon house was perfect for us. It was only two doors down from my son's apartment, clean and comfortable, and quiet at night. The lack of parking was not a problem for us, as my son was able to arrange for street parking using his sticker.
We were in Cambridge after a series of snow storms (including one small one during our visit) and the convenience of being right adjacent to my son's house was a great advantage as sidewalks and streets were not in the best of shape.
The Redmon's were excellent hosts and we look forward to staying with them again when we return to Cambridge.
Long time residents of Cambridge, who know the city extremely well and would be pleased to help you get the most from your visit to the Boston area. We are an architect and a retired school teacher, with four grown children still the in area. We have enjoyed meeting and leanring our guests who have come from all over the world.
