Julie provides an interesting pastoral setting on her 40-acre farm. The drive to her property was made more interesting because a bridge was closed for repairs. She and Cliff prepared a nice evening meal that accommodated our special vegetarian request. I particularly enjoyed harvesting lychee nuts, lemons, limes, and star fruit off the trees in her yard. We enjoyed good conversations and a tour of her studio. Overall it was an interesting stay, though I could perhaps have done without the 4:30 am wakeup call from the roosters. Even that worked out well because we needed to get on the road early that day.
My wife and I enjoyed a pleasant evening and some great discussion with Julie & Cliff at the dining table on the deck, where we appreciated a hearty home made soup for dinner. Julie has a great location, fabulous surroundings with billabong, many large trees, and a plethora of birds; and was ideally situated to break up our journey from the Gold Coast to Sydney. We loved the farmyard style pen with chooks, turkeys etc. Would have been nice to have a whole day to walk or cycle the property and surrounds.
Julie was not home on the night that my sons and I stayed at her house but she arranged for her son to greet us and gave us the run of her home. The house was very comfortable and somewhat familiar. It was in a great setting with nothing to be heard other than wildlife! The boys loved the swimming pool. It was a great place to stop off on the way to Qld. Hopefully, Julie will be home next time so that we can meet her.
Truly a private retreat in paradise. It was the best place to relax, enjoy nature, celebrate being 60 and getting out there in nature with the black cockatoos and kookaburras. If u never never go, you never never know......
Julie's house is in a great location close to the Pacific Highway and it was a perfect place to break our trip back to Sydney. The setting is lovely, with lovely views of soaring mountains. Julie made us all very welcome and kept offering home-grown goodies from her fridge - our simple supper of tuna, pasta and dolmio sauce, picked up at a petrol station, quickly evolved into a yummy barbecue with 3 salads and bottle of wine, all shared with Julie and Cliff. The children enjoyed the swimming pool, my sister went bush walking and I learnt something about glass bead-making in Julie's studio. My only warning is for guests with small children - the house has delicate glass ornaments on every surface and a very minimal balustrade on the veranda so we had to hold on tight to our 12-month-old the entire evening. One night was enough at his age but we would stay longer in a couple of years!
Fun host, fun location
Julie was an amazing host to my two buddies and I. She was very kind and always made sure we had everything we needed. She has a beautiful property with so many things to do with access to surrounding cities. I hope some day in the future to return for a longer period of time.
A friend and I stayed at Yarralen on our drive from Brisbane back to Sydney. It was a highlight of my two week holiday and was completely unexpected. It's a bit of a long story so I will just say that Julie is a warm and fun host, her magnesium pool is lovely to swim in and we both had a wonderful time.
My daughter and I stayed in Julie's home a few nights ago. She is a very generous and kind person. We enjoyed her beautiful tropical property and swimming in her pool. Julie is a very hospitable host.
Lovely Bali-style home set in the hills behind Scotts Head. Julie and Cliff were terrific hosts and were kind enough to make breakfast for us on our first day with grilled tomatoes from a local grower and eggs from the chooks in the yard. Julie gave us excellent advice on where to go for walks; and when we came back after those walks we could wallow in the pool. You could spend a whole day examining all the plants, chooks, turkeys and guinea fowls outside the house and as much time looking at stained glass, pressed glass and all the thousands of other objects inside the house - all fascinating. I'm just glad I don't have to dust them! Extremely comfortable bed, overhead fan and starry skies added to our enjoyment of three nights in this very untouristy area. Really liked sitting on the verandah and staring into sky and trees. Highly recommended - excellent value for money.
