The Space

Last minute reservation are welcome!

This listing is for the front room of a three bedroom home, and has a full-sized bed as well as a full-sized futon (pictures not yet updated).

This room is more affordable than my other listings because it is the first one in the house and directly on Frenchmen Street so it can get a little noisy (though I have ear plugs available). The room does not have a door but rather opens into the kitchen, though a curtain is hung as a divider. Other people will not be sleeping in or hanging out in your room, but they will likely need to walk through it. The house does, however, have 3 entrances/exits, so there is some privacy. The room comes with fresh sheets, a clean blanket, 4 pillows, 2 clean towels, clothing rack, dresser, alarm clock, umbrella, ceiling fan and space heater.

The house is a beautiful, sunny, recently renovated 1500 square foot shot-gun built in 1919 with gorgeous 12' ceilings. The central A/C provides reliable relief from the summer heat and the central heat will keep you toasty.

Guest Access

The shared bathroom is clean, cozy, fully stocked and has an awesomely hot shower. I also have a queen sized air mattress if you need extra bed space. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas range/oven, dishwasher and washer and dryer. Though I don't provide breakfast, your room will come with a welcoming snack or bottle of wine and you are free to use the kitchen.

There is a storage closet in the back of the house for bikes, instruments, or any other large objects you want to keep safe but do not comfortably fit in your room or vehicle.

Interaction with Guests

I live on-site in the back apartment, but have my own entrance and bathroom. The kitchen is shared. I am very respectful of guest’s privacy, though I am close by and available for questions, concerns and other amenities. I am a public history graduate student who creates all kinds of city tours, so if you let me know what you are interested in, I am more than happy to help you make an itinerary.

The Neighborhood

Home to some of the world's most famous jazz clubs, Frenchmen Street is always bustling with action. This property is one block away from Jelly Roll Morton's childhood home, 3/4 mile from the French Quarter, and 1/2 mile or less from the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods, St. Claude Arts District and famous music venues on Frenchmen Street. It is one block the bus line to the French Quarter/Canal Street, the Central Business District, UNO and other parts of town.

Your future room is located in the Seventh Ward/New Marigny neighborhood which is slightly off the beaten path and close to a plethora of quirky venues You can catch a metal show and eat some Eastern European food at Siberia, listen to bluegrass and funk at Hi Ho Lounge, watch burlesque and erotica readings at Allways Lounge, shake your booty at bounce night at St. Roch Tavern, drink an AMAZING bloody mary at Marie's, (email hidden)-monthly lesbian dance parties at Big Daddy's or chow down on some homemade sausages while singing your heart out at daily karaoke at Kajun’s Pub. If you need some relaxation, there are a few public pools nearby, and one is even clothing-optional and heated in the winter! There are three grocery stores (and two drug stores) within walking distance. Every week you can catch a free crawfish/shrimp boil at the R bar just down the road, as well as free dance lessons at the world famous jazz bar The Spotted Cat! I have a frequently updated calendar on my bedroom door which lists other weekly and special events in the city.

The neighborhood isn't super swanky, but you can smell barbecue on the weekends, chat with the neighbors, wake up to a second line parade on Sunday mornings and live like a local!

Getting around

Cab rides are only a phone call away, and is generally how my guests travel to and from the airport. If you are arriving by Megabus, the stop lets you off on the 55 bus line, which has a stop only a block away from my home. If you are driving into the city, there is plenty of on street parking.

I encourage my guests to walk around, as I think the slower pace helps folks appreciate the energy of the city. However, late night cab rides can be a good idea if you perhaps enjoyed the nightlife a little too much :)
There are also several places nearby where guests can rent bikes, which is a really nice way to see the city.

Other Things to Note

I also have bi-monthly deliveries of gourmet single-source coffees which I encourage all my guests to taste!

Smoking is permitted outside.

The house has an optional, but adorably cuddly, kitten name Stringer Bell. He usually stays outside but loves to hang out if you like to give belly rubs.

The home has wireless internet, but no television. I do, however, have plenty of books on New Orleans (and other subjects) which I am happy to loan out, and I will gladly share my NetFlix and Hulu Plus if you need to get your television fix. Don’t worry, your trip to New Orleans will not be boring!

  • Christina seemed nice, but only saw her when we first arrived. We were woken up at 3 am by one of her friends coming by. This is a shotgun style house so it makes for little privacy. Their are two clubs right next to the house. She does have earplugs if it gets bad.

  • Christina is a fantastic host! Even with a broken leg she was able to spend a night hanging out with us. Her house is extremely close to all of the action you could possibly want from a trip to New Orleans. I would definitely hit her up on a subsequent trip to the area.

  • This was my first Air BnB experience, and I have to say I am a complete convert. Christina was a gracious host, full of information, and really easy to get in touch with via text in spite of her being very busy with her thesis. Her home is clean, comfortable, cozy, and full of character. Her cat was the most adorable, snuggly little person to spend time with as well. It was a lot of fun getting to know the area and city in this fashion - very different from a standard hotel or tourist-type adventure. The co-op/healing center was a wonderful place to get delicious food and check out some of the events going on locally. Kajun's karaoke on the weekends was such an incredibly fun event as well! I had some trepidation about the shotgun nature of the house, but it turned out not to be as stressful or as big of a deal as I was worried about. I even ran into another AirBnB host in town while meandering about, which was a pleasant though unexpected surprise! It really drives home the family-esque, networking style of this kind of travel. I am super pleased with my decision to stay here and would definitely recommend it to anyone who was looking for an affordable way to really get to know a new town and the folks that live there! :)

  • I could stay at her place very comfortably for three days. She was able to quickly respond to my inquiry about check-in. Although I did not have a chance to talk to her a lot because of my schedule, she seemed to be very considerate for all the guests. Thank you very much.

  • Christina was a really good host, always easy to reach especially when our arrival was delayed because of winter sotrm chaos at the airport. The house was bigger than expected, plenty of room for privacy. The location is very convenient, we walked to the French Quarter every day, and the neighborhood never felt unsafe. The house is comfortable and clean, and we had a great stay!

  • Christina was wonderful! Very communicative and flexible with my crazy flight delays. She was warm, friendly, and attended to every detail; it really made my stay great! The room itself was quiet and the bed comfy. I hope to be back soon!

  • The house is nice, but located in a way less nice looking part of Frenchmen street than where the bars are, in front of a club. So great if you're going there to party !
Also this room doesn't look like it in the pictures, but it's in the entrance of the house and the only separation with the kitchen is a curtain. I guess I didn't read the description enough, so be aware. It works out well though, we were just a bit surprised. If there are other people in the other rooms of the house (also for rent), you'll have to go around the house outside to be able to reach the bathroom. There was nobody for us so it worked out all good !

  • Yo you gotta stay with my girl Christina. She had the best deal, and she and her house were more more than satisfactory. I loved being in the Frenchmen area and she really knows what's up around there (and elsewhere too). Her cat is named Stringer Bell, how dope is that? Very.

  • Christina was a cool, welcoming host. The location is great for exploring the french quarter. As long as you are cool with the shotgun style apartment, this is a good place to stay.
