About this listing
We have a spacious and recently finished basement apartment in our 1907 farmhouse. The bedroom is very large with a comfortable queen size mattress and bed, dresser, and study nook with a desk and chair. The kitchen opens into the living room and has all new appliances and cookware. There is one large walk-in closet. Guests have their own separate entrance to the apartment.
Our neighborhood is on a quiet street in the King section of NE Portland. We are a few blocks away from loads of award winning restaurants, shops, galleries and bars on Fremont, Williams, Mississippi Ave, and Alberta Street, and from Whole Foods, Alberta Street Co-op, and New Seasons Market. We are also within walking distance to several bus lines and are a 10 to 15 minute bike ride or 5-10 minute drive to downtown PDX.
Our house is on the older side so sounds do carry. Doors and floors are creaky and the pitter patter of footsteps can occasionally be heard from upstairs. The apartment is in the basement so it tends to be much more comfortable in the summer than it is upstairs. That said, we don't have air conditioning in the unit. In the winter months, and for cooler days in general, there is a heater in both the living room a bedroom that guests can control to their comfort level. The apartment can be a bit dark during the winter days, so we have added lots of cozy lighting to add warmth and brightness for those days when the sun isn't out.
A bit about us. We are two working artists/creatives with a toddler who love to travel, cook, play outdoors and get our hands dirty in our large organic garden. We have two cats who are often seen outside in our little oasis garden.
What we offer to our guests:
A bounty of vegetables from our garden
Free Wifi and Flatscreen with Apple TV
Washing machine and dryer
Fun books and artwork to ogle and read during your stay
Lots of great advice on what to see, where to go, and what to eat in the Portland and surrounding areas.
Options for verified and well-trusted babysitting services
We have traveled all over the world and stayed in several houses and apartments along the way, so we've tried our best to make sure that all of the creature comforts are in place.
We love exchanging stories and making new connections with fellow travelers.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
Unless for some reason we are traveling, we meet all of our guests in person to get them settled into the apartment and answer any questions that they have about restaurants and other activities in the area.
Interaction with Guests
We usually send a couple of text messages throughout the duration of guests' stays to make sure they are comfortable and to check on whether they need anything at all. For the most part we like to give our guests the space they need. If guests stay a bit longer, we usually invite them over for dinner or a glass of wine. We love getting to know travelers and have met some amazing people through Air B and B by sharing a meal.
Though we do enjoy an occasional small dinner party, we are a family household so no parties or loud music late at night. No drugs or smoking. No pets. Since the apartment is in the basement of our house, the doors must be locked at all times. We are heavy into composting and recycling so no tossing compostables or recyclables in the landfill.
Our hosts were really great. They gave us some very appreciated recommendations regarding where to go and what to see. The neighborhood is very charming. The floor we stayed on was wonderfully decorated with art work by Robin and Michael.
My wife and I enjoyed staying at Felicity and Michael's place - very creative and charming like the listing described! They both welcomed us and gave us a little tour as soon as we arrived! They answered all of the questions we had and made great suggestions on restaurants to eat at and things to do in the area. Speaking of the area...we liked the location quite a bit! The basement apartment was spacious, clean, and homey! Overall - we had a great experience!
Felicity and Michael are wonderful people. They were very accommodating and had great recommendations on where to go. The apartment is very very comfortable. It felt homey to the point that sometimes we didn't want to go out, but just stay there and ready.
The apartment is wonderful. A bit large, living room, complete, kitchen, large bedroom, etc.; as large as our apartment at home. It i very comfortable, lightly and tastefully decorated. It is in a nice neighborhood, easy to get around. Felicity was a lovely hostess; sad to say my hours did not give me an opportunity to play with the little one. I recommend it highly.
Michael and Felicity were very welcoming and went out of their way to make our time in Portland enjoyable. The apartment was beautiful and clean with everything you could need, including a comfy bed too! The place is a short walk to Alberta Street and bus lines into the city, which is walkable also. Highly recommend this accomodation!
It was such a beautiful space and Felicity and Michael were available to give us recommendations of things to do in the area.
We stayed with Michael and Felicity during a long weekend trip to Portland.
Their apartment was immaculately clean and super spacious for the two of us. They provided coffee and tea which was a lovely and homey touch.
Michael answered any and all of our questions about his city and gave great suggestions for us newbies.
If you are looking for a place to stay in Portland, I highly recommend staying with these guys. They go above and beyond any other hosts I've stayed with and are genuinely kind to their guests. (They even mailed my shirt to me after I'd left it there)
Thanks Michael and Felicity! You are awesome!
