About this listing
We have a spacious and recently finished basement apartment in our 1907 farmhouse. The bedroom is very large with a comfortable queen size mattress and bed, dresser, and study nook with a desk and chair. The kitchen opens into the living room and has all new appliances and cookware. There is one large walk-in closet. Guests have their own separate entrance to the apartment.
Our neighborhood is on a quiet street in the King section of NE Portland. We are a few blocks away from loads of award winning restaurants, shops, galleries and bars on Fremont, Williams, Mississippi Ave, and Alberta Street, and from Whole Foods, Alberta Street Co-op, and New Seasons Market. We are also within walking distance to several bus lines and are a 10 to 15 minute bike ride or 5-10 minute drive to downtown PDX.
Our house is on the older side so sounds do carry. Doors and floors are creaky and the pitter patter of footsteps can occasionally be heard from upstairs. The apartment is in the basement so it tends to be much more comfortable in the summer than it is upstairs. That said, we don't have air conditioning in the unit. In the winter months, and for cooler days in general, there is a heater in both the living room a bedroom that guests can control to their comfort level. The apartment can be a bit dark during the winter days, so we have added lots of cozy lighting to add warmth and brightness for those days when the sun isn't out.
A bit about us. We are two working artists/creatives with a toddler who love to travel, cook, play outdoors and get our hands dirty in our large organic garden. We have two cats who are often seen outside in our little oasis garden.
What we offer to our guests:
A bounty of vegetables from our garden
Free Wifi and Flatscreen with Apple TV
Washing machine and dryer
Fun books and artwork to ogle and read during your stay
Lots of great advice on what to see, where to go, and what to eat in the Portland and surrounding areas.
Options for verified and well-trusted babysitting services
We have traveled all over the world and stayed in several houses and apartments along the way, so we've tried our best to make sure that all of the creature comforts are in place.
We love exchanging stories and making new connections with fellow travelers.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
Unless for some reason we are traveling, we meet all of our guests in person to get them settled into the apartment and answer any questions that they have about restaurants and other activities in the area.
Interaction with Guests
We usually send a couple of text messages throughout the duration of guests' stays to make sure they are comfortable and to check on whether they need anything at all. For the most part we like to give our guests the space they need. If guests stay a bit longer, we usually invite them over for dinner or a glass of wine. We love getting to know travelers and have met some amazing people through Air B and B by sharing a meal.
Though we do enjoy an occasional small dinner party, we are a family household so no parties or loud music late at night. No drugs or smoking. No pets. Since the apartment is in the basement of our house, the doors must be locked at all times. We are heavy into composting and recycling so no tossing compostables or recyclables in the landfill.
