This is a great studio in a wonderful SE Portland neighborhood. Full kitchen, bedroom with a queen size bed, bathroom, and a pull out futon in the living area. Recently renovated with a little bit of the "Old Charm" bungalow saved. There is a private entrance in the shared back yard for guests with plenty of space for outdoor relaxing. I live on the main floor of the house with my two small dogs and two indoor/outdoor cats. There is a shared laundry area for host and guests. The back yard is full of lounge chairs, swings, vegetable garden, bar/lounge in the detached garage and cedar chipped back yard (great for bocce games). The back yard is shared by host, her friendly pets and guests. My dogs are never out playing and running around without me supervising them....but the cats climb trees and lounge as they please. Please make sure you love animals if considering staying here.
This neighborhood is full of Portland's finest restaurants including: Pok Pok, Whiskey Soda Lounge, Sunshine Tavern, Savoy, Little Big Burger, Eva Jeans, Hedge House Brew Pub, Hopworks Urban Bicycle Brewery, Cibo, Bar Avignon wine bar, Clinton Street Theater and even Pro 300 Bowling Alley....all within walking distance.....and many many more....too many to list.
The Division st bus line (#4) is a few blocks away, and the Powell st bus line (#9) is two blocks from the house. They can both take you all over Portland.
Smoking okay, only outside.
Although it is not air conditioned, it stays very cool with new windows, insulation and plenty of shade trees.
Be kind, courteous, and generally respectful. Only smoking outside. Open minded people and families, that are comfortable with communal enjoyment of the back yard, while having their privacy in their cool and comfortable studio. Please make sure the back gate is closed upon entering and exiting. Courtesy quiet time for neighbors is after 10pm and before 8am. Thanks!!
Cozy great place! Heather was very nice and accommodating. She made my traveling a lot easier! Thanks for everything Heather!
Not only is Heather the nicest lady you'll meet - but she has the most perfect apartment! It was so clean and modern and private but also had a homely feel. I honestly can't complain about anything! The space was perfect for 2 and even cooked a meal one night and all the cooking necessities were provided. There are so many nice places to eat and drink around the area and the neighbourhood is beautiful. We drove into town everyday so can't comment on public transport. Heather even went out of her way to provide information on a local doctor and came and introduced herself which was lovely. Thanks Heather for a great stay!
This review is a little weird for me to write because even though I only physically saw Heather once, her communications with me were extremely sweet. She really is an excellent host. Everything was really clean and mostly as described.
Unfortunately I felt compelled to leave early (9 nights instead of the 31 I booked). I can't say it was anybody's fault... because the things that bothered me were not in ANY other reviews. I actually looked for this stuff before I booked and nobody else feels the way I do so maybe it is just me and my own sensitivities. Mainly it was just too loud as I could hear pretty much everything that was happening upstairs - conversations, floor creaks, dogs barking, even phones vibrating. Definitely the thinnest floor situation I have ever encountered in my 25 or so Airbnb stays and all of my apartment experiences. And unlike one other place I have stayed where it was loud, it seemed like John spent most of his time inside the house - so this noise wasn't isolated to a few hours. This was a big problem for me, especially because I like to work at home. Also, it did not seem private for me and my girlfriend based on the fact that it felt like we were in the same room as Heather and John. The other main issue was the bed, which is sagging on one side. I eventually found a solution which was to sleep on the right side of the bed while my girlfriend slept on the sagging side (since she can sleep on anything). Overall, it felt like the quality of the mattress, couch, TV, and some other little things were on the cheaper side (made for guests and rightfully so) and not how someone would have it in their own house - but that's just my opinion.
Regardless, I felt like I couldn't stay any longer because of the noise issue and with the increased rate, fees, and occupancy taxes, my stay went from about $50/night to over $90/night. This was not Heather's fault at all! It's just how it worked out since I asked to change the dates. She was so nice and immediately let me change my reservation to the date that suited me best.
Overall, I would say that a single person (or even a couple) who is coming to stay here for a short time, or a long time and doesn't mind noise, would like this place. The shower and kitchen are nice, there's a good amount of space, and there are some really good appointments. I liked the table, the space heater, the closet space, the end tables with lights and some other stuff. The backyard area is also a real plus, especially during nice weather months, I'm sure. Even though it wasn't a perfect stay for me, I really appreciate Heather for being so kind and welcoming.
I booked this for my in-laws when they were visiting. Heather made it very easy for everyone to coordinate accessing the apartment and we were very happy with how welcoming and attentive she was.
Heather was a very accommodating host who pretty much thought of everything in terms of making us feel welcome. We stayed for a full month so it was very convenient to have access to things like a kitchen and television. She and John were both very friendly and it seems pretty obvious they're big lovers of people and pets alike. Thank you for the hospitality!!!
Heather was great! I initially has some scheduling issues, but she worked with me and was very accommodating. She was very quick at communicating with me and was super friendly. She also gave great advice for things to do/eat in Portland.
The location is really convenient too. It's just a short walk to SE Division, where there are lots of great restaurants and bars.
The studio was a great size and everything was clean and comfortable. I really have no complaints and will definitely come back next time I'm in Portland :)
Very sweet little basement apartment in a great central SE Portland location. Our 7 year old son slept on the futon in the living room and thought it was so cool. Very well equipped kitchen and nice shower bathroom. Heather & her partner were very friendly, accommodating & flexible. We came from Seattle and due to trafficended up being about 2 hours later than we planned and they were totally cool with it.
I've lived in Portland, OR for 14 years and in this neighborhood for 13 years, I can be very helpful in offering local knowledge. I am a licensed massage therapist, and have had my full time practice for over 12 years. I also speak Spanish and enjoy traveling very much all over the world. Portland and the surrounding area is such a wonderful place to explore, I hope to make it a great experience for guests.
