  • We had such a wonderful weekend at Émer's place. Émer was a gracious host, who strove to make us comfortable and welcome. It's an idyllic setting, and a perfect place to catch our breath after hectic days of travel and a visit to Dublin. It is remote, but the directions are good, It's also very convenient to scenic/historic Glendalough, and all of Co. Wicklow. I'd love to return for a longer stay sometime!

  • Emer's big house in Aughrim is just lovely. It is in the most beautiful location in Wicklow, up on a height, so you have a huge panoramic view. The house inside was very clean and roomy (3 bedrooms and plenty of extra space) and has many beautiful, original details; dark wooden floors, big sash windows, interesting antique furniture, yet it is not too posh for a very comfortable stay. I stayed there with 3 girlfriends for a few days and we had everything we needed, including wood for the stove in the kitchen/dining/hanging-out room and good wifi. It was a blustery weekend and we were very happy and never cold. The fire was great and heating in the house worked very well. Emer is a very friendly woman who made us feel like we could ask her for anything. We all liked her very much. The location for exploring Wicklow could not be better. You are 5 minutes drive to Aughrim (which has a great restaurant and good pubs), 10 minutes to a very unique pub with nice atmosphere and good craic (meeting of the waters), 15 to Rathdrum with a delicious restaurant (Bates) and great pubs and a good shop, and 10 minutes to Avoca with it's amazing working, weaving mill that you can tour (very friendly weavers who explain everything), tempting shop, good pub and tasty cafe. There are so many gardens and walks from Avondale to Glendalough to the Wicklow way, just walk out your door! Her place is good value... especially for a week rate. She doesn't implement all that extra stuff like cleaning charges and extra charges for wifi. I also have a family with a husband and 4 kids and I want to bring them here, it's perfect for families. It would also be a great place for 2 couples or 2 small families to meet up as there is ample sleep space and 2 different big living rooms to spread out in. I am busy planning my next excuse to rent here again! I think it will be a repeat and regular event! I live in Ireland and have rented a good bit on airbnb and this is a really unique place, not to be missed!

I have been living here for almost 15 years and just love the pace of life in the countryside. This is a wonderful place to connect with nature. I enjoy cooking for people, reading and local arts.
