The space

Our lovely villa, Rumah Kodok, is located in a highly sought after area of the artist's village of Penestanan. Its completely private, no sharing. It is only a 15-minute walk from the heart of Ubud, the cultural and art center of Bali. This beautiful one-level, 2-bedroom, 2-bath villa, is on a walking path where there are no motorized vehicles. It is a peaceful neighborhood with a nice friendly mix of both Balinese and expats. Within a few minutes, our walking paths will take you past beautiful rice fields to the many nearby restaurants, spas and laundry service. Our favorite yoga studio, Intuitive Flow, is only a 3-minute walk away. The large western-style Bintang supermarket is only a 5-minute walk away. The villa now has fiber optic high speed internet and enhanced security. We also have lockable drawers that can hold a small computer and other valuables.

Our villa features outdoor living at its best, with a spacious, fully covered veranda overlooking the swimming pool, rice fields and sunsets beyond. The veranda has local Balinese art work, a beautiful antique Javanese daybed, comfortable chairs for visiting, and dining table for four. Also overlooking the pool is a Balinese bale (gazebo) for relaxing with your favorite book after a swim.

There are two large bedrooms, each with an adjoining Balinese-style outdoor bathroom. One bedroom has a 4-post king size bed with mosquito net and the other bedroom has two twin beds with mosquito nets. Both bedrooms have fans, tables, wardrobe closets, chairs, and are beautifully decorated with traditional Indonesian artwork (weavings, necklaces, Javanese antique wedding chest and more). One bedroom has two lockable drawers for your valuables. The drawers will fit a small laptop (13").

The two ensuites are separated by a well equipped kitchen.

Our villa is most easily accessed up about 20 steps from the street, Jalan Sangiggan. These steps are located just south of the Bintang supermarket and will lead you onto a pathway a few minutes walk to our door.

Although this is our home, we will be traveling during your stay, therefore Wayan, our house manager will be your local contact. Wayan will provide cleaning service 3-times per week. Sorry, but we do not provide breakfast.

We hope you will love our home as much as we do and believe our villa will provide you with both a relaxing and fulfilling Bali experience.

We loved everything about this house-the pool, decor, and location. It's located above the main road in the rice fields. There's a small pathway that has several very cute local restaurants. We ate at the Yellow Flower Cafe three times and are still talking about it. The house is a quick 15 minute walk to the center of Ubud. We would highly recommend staying here away from the busy streets of Ubud-it's a hidden gem.

Amazing and beautiful home! The location is perfect and just enough removed from the busier streets of the center of Ubud. Lovely cafes, shops and spas within 3-5 minute walking distance. Easy transportation. Would definitely pick this home again and again!!!

Brenda is a great host. The villa was clean and the staff super friendly. I you're looking for a nice quite spot to enjoy and relax this is a great option to consider. However, you will be no more than a short 10-15 min walk to the main road where you'll have access to shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend staying here as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed my repeat stay at Rumah Kodok and can highly recommend it to other travelers. The location is in the quiet artistic village of Penestanan, a 20-minute walk or 5-minute ride from congested central Ubud, and is where many long-term expats reside. The village is full of lovely restaurant, cafe, yoga, and massage options; and to me represents a more accurate representation of tranquil Balinese life than the nearby touristy central area of town. The villa itself is lovely, clean, modern, comfortable, and private; with a larger pool and richly appointed spacious outdoor living area with rice terrace views. The home is along a quiet local walkway, a 2-minute walk off the main road; and most of what one could want is reached via a peaceful stroll throughout the community. Their lovely Balinese manager, Wayan, lives next door and was always available to assist with any needed help or questions. Overall, I again found my experience at Rumah Kodok first-rate!

I returned to Rumah Kodok for a second stay before leaving Bali. Once again the place was great and Wayan the house manager again made me feel welcome. This time I had a chance to try the yoga studio just down the path. It too was wonderful with a beautiful elevated view and nice breezes along with a very good yoga teacher. I also tried a massage at Sedona spa, which was just a few minutes walk away- and again was very happy with the treatment. The location of Rumah Kodok is outstanding and the villa itself is terrific!

The villa was really nice and in a great location with the rice fields right out in front, past the pool. The house was close to a western-style grocery store (5 min walk) and a quick walk to several good restaraunts. Downtown Ubud was also just a few minutes by taxi but it would also be easily walkable. Wayan, the house manager was also really nice. I enjoyed my stay so much that I have planned to return for a few days before leaving Bali! I would highly recommend this place for people looking for a quiet getaway but conveniently located close to everything you need!

We had 6 lovely nights at Rumah Kodok. It is in a beautiful location just outside Ubud center (about a 20 - 25 minute walk). I loved coming home to the quiet after the hustle and bustle of Ubud. The villa has a fabulous outdoor living space overlooking the pool and rice field. Brenda had warned us ahead of time that there would be some construction next door, but they were working mostly during the day while we were gone, so we could enjoy the peace and quiet in the evenings. The villa is within walking distance of so many good restaurants and the grocery store - I think that is one of the things I liked most. We would spend the day touring Ubud or the countryside and come back to the villa in time to walk the quiet paths to dinner. Brenda sent a helpful detailed packet of information before we arrived, with suggestions for drivers. Wayan, the housekeeper, met us at the Bingtang supermarket when we arrived and carried our heaviest suitcase on her head to the villa. The villa is not accessible by car, but is an easy walk 5 minute from the Bingtang (bring a flashlight if going out at night). There are plenty of "taxis" willing to drive you from the Bingtang into Ubud or vice versa (about (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) rupiah), so while it is feasible to walk, you certainly don't have to. The villa does not have air conditioning, but this was not a problem as there were fans for every bed and a ceiling fan in the kitchen. I was actually amazed at how cool it got at night. We highly recommend this villa.

I am a retired educator from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, USA. I like to travel, ski, hike, scuba dive, paint and do yoga. My husband and I have a lovely home in Bali which we rent out when we are in the US or traveling. We love the people and culture of Bali and after visiting here for several years, we decided to make it our second home.
