The Space

Our lovely villa, Rumah Kodok, is located in a highly sought after area of the artist's village of Penestanan. It is only a 15-minute walk from the heart of Ubud, the cultural and art center of Bali. Also, it is an easy 10-minute walk to the well known Ubud Writers and Readers Festival (Oct 1 - 5th, 2014). This beautiful one-level, 2-bedroom, 2-bath villa, is on a walking path where there are no motorized vehicles. It is a very peaceful neighborhood with a nice friendly mix of both Balinese and expats. Within a few minutes, our walking paths will take you past beautiful rice fields to the many nearby restaurants, spas and laundry service. Our favorite yoga studio, Intuitive Flow, is only a 3-minute walk away. The large western-style Bintang supermarket is only a 5-minute walk away.

Our villa features outdoor living at its best, with a spacious, fully covered veranda overlooking the lap pool, rice fields and sunsets beyond. The veranda has local Balinese art work, a beautiful antique Javanese daybed, comfortable chairs for visiting, and dining table for four. Also overlooking the pool is a Balinese bale (gazebo) for relaxing with your favorite book after a swim.

There are two large bedrooms, each with an adjoining Balinese-style outdoor bathroom. One bedroom has a 4-post king size bed with mosquito net and the other bedroom has two twin beds with mosquito nets. Both bedrooms have fans, tables, wardrobe closets, chairs, and are beautifully decorated with traditional Indonesian artwork (weavings, necklaces, Javanese antique wedding chest and more).

The two ensuites are separated by a well equipped kitchen.

Our villa is most easily accessed up about 15 steps from the street, Jalan Sangiggan. These steps are located just south of the Bintang supermarket and will lead you onto a pathway a few minutes walk to our door.

Although this is our home, we will be traveling during your stay, therefore Wayan, our housekeeper, or her husband Ketut, will be your local contacts. Wayan will provide cleaning service 3-times per week. Sorry, but we do not provide breakfast.

We are fairly new to airbnb so have just a few reviews so far. We hope you will love our home as much as we do and believe our villa will provide you with both a relaxing and fulfilling Bali experience.

  • This house is a gem ! As of July 2014,the photos do not justice to the beauty of this home. It is spacious, very well decorated and with an incredible view to a few rice paddies which is a plus so close to Ubud. The house is away from the road so it is incredibly quiet which is a blessing when you have spent a few hours in jam packed Ubud. The house is in a original neighbourhood of villas that is hard to describe but very original to Bali, 15 min walk or 4 min cab ride from central Ubud. There is a supermarket and an excellent bakery 3 min from the house as well although The flower cafe 1 min from the house is so good and cheap, you barely need to cook. The house has many open small windows which do not close ( Bali style) which means you go to sleep with the sound of frogs, birds and the water stream nearby. Takes some time getting used to the ambient sound ( frogs and roosters can be a bit loud sometimes :o) ) but it is a unique experience. We absolutely loved our stay and highly recommend it !!!

  • WOW! What a find! We fell in love with Ubud and Rumah Kodok :-) This was our first AirBnB experience and from the word 'go' Brenda and Jack went out of their way to make our stay an enjoyable one. Their home is perfectly situated away from the road and noise although easy walking distance to anything we wanted. It's a lovely villa with a beautiful view and fabulously relaxing. There's a full kitchen, although we hardly bothered because the local restaurants were close, inexpensive with great food! Their housekeeper, Wayan is delightful - she made sure the house was spotless, and also super helpful with any questions we had about the area. We particularly enjoyed the library of books in the house, which told stories from ex-pats living in Ubud and helped us enormously integrate & get a feel for the place.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the home clean, tastful and comfortable in a quiet and freindly neighbourhood.Everything and more that it was stated to be.

  • As regular visitors to Ubud, we chose our stay at Rumah Kodok after there was a mixup with our Hotel booking. What otherwise seemed like a turn of bad luck ended up being a fortunate event. This newly listed 2-bedroom plus pool private villa is actually much nicer than represented in the posted photos, at a fraction of the price of a similar quality hotel. The lovely outdoor living area veranda, garden, and pool have an unobstructed rice field view. The lovely manager, Wayan made sure the Villa and garden were kept immaculately clean.

Located along a lovely path with abundant green rice field and mountain views, the house is located in the artistic painting village of Penestanan, where most longer term "in the know" western travelers chose to reside. Only 5-minutes via motorbike or taxi from the lovely but congested commercial Ubud center, the immediate area includes several highly rated Tripadviser restaurants, yoga studios, art galleries, and the Bintang supermarket all within a peaceful 5-minute walk within a real Balinese local village. Longer rice field and the renown Champuan Ridge treks are also at your doorstep. The Balinese invited us to and we eagerly attended an authentic, non-touristic temple celebration of chanting, dancing, and shadow puppetry.

We highly recommend a Rumah-Kodok stay and look forward to a return visit.

  • My Daughter and I had a wonderful stay in Ubud and really enjoyed using the pool to cool off after long days of touring the area! We especially loved The Yellow Flower Cafe, right up the foot path and being removed from the noise that staying downtown would have imparted. There is a wonderful view for the gorgeous Bali sunsets and short walk to the Bintang market for daily supplies!

  • Staying in Rumah Kodok was a wonderful experience. We loved the house which is built all on one level and the very large verandah was where we spent much of our time relaxing with the pool just steps away. The sunsets overlooking the rice fields were beautiful! It is very comfortable, private, and quiet but also so close to the great organic Yellow Flower Cafe, Ibu Putu's Warung, Lala and Lili's Warung, and Linda's yoga studio which has such amazing views. Everything was so close to walk to but still not too far from Ubud's bustling energy. Wayan was a beautiful lady who did the cleaning and was very helpful. We feel like we had a genuinely fantastic Balinese experience and do recommend staying at Rumah Kodok. I hope to return there one day.

I am a retired educator from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, USA. I like to travel, ski, hike, scuba dive, paint and do yoga. My husband and I have a lovely home in Bali which we rent out when we are in the US or traveling. We love the people and culture of Bali and after visiting here for several years, we decided to make it our second home.
