Our lovely villa, Rumah Kodok, is located in a highly sought after area of the artist's village of Penestanan. It is only a 15-minute walk from the heart of Ubud, the cultural and art center of Bali. Also, it is an easy 10-minute walk to the well known Ubud Writers and Readers Festival. This beautiful one-level, 2-bedroom, 2-bath villa, is on a walking path where there are no motorized vehicles. It is a very peaceful neighborhood with a nice friendly mix of both Balinese and expats. Within a few minutes, our walking paths will take you past beautiful rice fields to the many nearby restaurants, spas and laundry service. Our favorite yoga studio, Intuitive Flow, is only a 3-minute walk away. The large western-style Bintang supermarket is only a 5-minute walk away.
Our villa features outdoor living at its best, with a spacious, fully covered veranda overlooking the swimming pool, rice fields and sunsets beyond. The veranda has local Balinese art work, a beautiful antique Javanese daybed, comfortable chairs for visiting, and dining table for four. Also overlooking the pool is a Balinese bale (gazebo) for relaxing with your favorite book after a swim.
There are two large bedrooms, each with an adjoining Balinese-style outdoor bathroom. One bedroom has a 4-post king size bed with mosquito net and the other bedroom has two twin beds with mosquito nets. Both bedrooms have fans, tables, wardrobe closets, chairs, and are beautifully decorated with traditional Indonesian artwork (weavings, necklaces, Javanese antique wedding chest and more).
The two ensuites are separated by a well equipped kitchen.
Our villa is most easily accessed up about 15 steps from the street, Jalan Sangiggan. These steps are located just south of the Bintang supermarket and will lead you onto a pathway a few minutes walk to our door.
Although this is our home, we will be traveling during your stay, therefore Wayan, our housekeeper, or her husband Ketut, will be your local contacts. Wayan will provide cleaning service 3-times per week. Sorry, but we do not provide breakfast.
We hope you will love our home as much as we do and believe our villa will provide you with both a relaxing and fulfilling Bali experience.
Please enjoy our home and treat it as you would your own. Maximum 4 people. If you need to smoke please do so outside. Please note that we need at least 48 hours between booking and move-in.
The villa was absolutely amazing, the pool and the little gazebo are a godsend after a long day walking around ubud. The villa was tidy and cosy, and Blue was a great driver. Thankyou so much for having us! We will definitely be back again / will recommend for others! Xx
We had a glorious 12 days at Rumah Kodok. It is lovelier than the photos suggest, and the location is perfect - overlooking rice fields, walking distance to great restaurants, yoga and the supermarket, yet utterly tranquil. We were probably the noisiest things around! We stayed with our 7 and 4 year old children, who loved the house and pool. A couple of things to note which may help you decide if Rumah Kodok is for you. There are a LOT of bugs, including mosquitos. This is typical of Bali, especially in wet season, but as the house is open to the outdoors if you are bug-shy it may not be for you. The local paths are narrow, VERY steep, and dark at night. Torches are essential. We loved the adventure of it, but had to keep a firm hand on our 4 year old to ensure he didn't end up in a ravine. The pool is big and very deep, so similarly the 4 year old needed very close supervision. The master bed is large and extremely comfortable. The singles are narrow, and although they could accommodate adults they may be better suited to children. We loved having occasional visits from the farmer's wife to lay offerings, and Wayan the housekeeper and Blue the driver made us very welcome while giving us complete privacy. The nearby walks in ricefields and along the ravine were wonderful, and we occasionally walked into Ubud too although it was easier for the children if we took a taxi (40,000 rp). Rumah Kodok allows you to feel immersed in Bali. We would recommend it without hesitation and would stay again.
We loved our week stay here with our two teenage daughters. The villa exceeded all expectations. Beautiful decor and space which is even better than the photos. All correspondence and information from Brenda was excellent. Staying a little out of busy Ubud was perfect; we loved the peacfulness of our 'home', amazing pool, frog humming at night, gorgeous veranda and views and really comfortable beds. An easy walk or taxi into town. Loved the winding pathways, local cafes & handy to Bintang supermarket. Wyan was really helpful along with suggested taxi drivers. Already missing Rodah Kodak and only been gone 1 day! Would love to return sometime. We had had a busy time touring around Lomok and our week here was so perfect and relaxing.
We had a fantastic week in Ubud, staying in this great villa. We were travelling with our two young boys, and it was perfect for them. They loved the space on the veranda and of course the pool. The villa is a little tricky to get to, so wouldn't be suitable for anyone with mobility issues or families wanting to use prams.
The nearby little restaurants were amazing, and perfect for our daily breakfasts and also some dinners. We could also walk into central Ubud for shopping, temples, the monkey park, the dance shows and many more restaurant options.
The villa itself was comfortable, clean and well equipped. Wayan and Blue looked after is very well during our stay.
Thank you very much!
We absolutely enjoyed our one week stay at Rumah Kodok. So much so that I think we spent more time at the house than in and around Ubud. The house was charming and private. We were not at all bothered by the frogs and insect noise. They added charm and atmosphere to the house. Having our own private pool was a great relief in the scorching days we were there. Brenda was very responsive and gracious in all our communications and requests. The directions she provided before our arrival were invaluable, including Blue, the driver whom she recommended. would highly recommend the house and Brenda.
Great communication and information. Beautiful, quiet location. Exactly what we were looking for for our first time to Bali.
Villa Rumah Kudok was unbelievable! My wife and i had high expectations coming in and the villa exceeded all of them. The booking process was very easy and the owners were very promt in responding to our questions. Now to talk about the villa. All i can say is wow! The pics on airbnb were nice but seeing it in person didnt do it justice. When we first saw it, it was breath taking! First thing you see when you walk up is the pool overlooking a peaceful rice paddy with a flock of ducks in it. Then the villa itself was exactly what we were looking for. Huge covered patio with lots of seating and lounging area, balinese feel of the house, outdoor showers, large bedrooms and small kitchen. We also loved the location and privacy of the villa. Its far enough away from the hustle and bustle of ubud central but still close enough for a short taxi ride or 15 min stroll. Also, its located close to the bintang supermarket for doing some grocery shopping for the villa if u dont want to eat out all the time. The nice walking paths by the villa are very convenient to get to couple nice balinese restaurants and also "our" favorite breakfast spot Yellow flower cafe. There are also a couple nice spa and massage places walking distance to the villa. Our favorite was bali botanica. Another big plus of our experience was the kind and beautiful house manager Wayan who took care of our needs and available if we needed any assistance. She helped us book out private art class with a local artist and professor which was one of our highlights and with short notice. To sum it all up, if you are looking for a true balinese vacation in a beautiful private villa Book Rumah Kodok!
We will be back!

My husband and I have a lovely home in Bali which we rent out when we are in the US or traveling. We love the people and culture of Bali and after visiting here for several years, we decided to make it our second home.
