I was welcomed by Makini's mother, who was all smiles and full of helpful information. The studio was well appointed, thoughtful in taste and decor and very accommodating. The images were very accurate and I loved the period details. Makini does have a lovely office in front of the unit and was preparing for a wedding while I was there. She was kind, considerate and had stocked the studio so well, I never had to ask for a thing! The neighborhood was pleasant and a metro station was a block away. I shopped at the local organic grocery store a couple of blocks up and was greeted kindly by locals when out and about. The unit is in the back of the building, away from the street and was very quiet in the evenings.
The studio is as beautiful as it looks in the photos. Makini has made it a nice little home away from home for tourists, and at a much more affordable price than hotels! The location is good, and although the area is generally residential and can get a little quiet at night (relative to Manhattan of course), the apartment is literally a stone's throw away from the subway so I didn't feel too unsafe walking to the apartment even as a single female traveller. The studio is very clean, with a fridge/freezer, hob, microwave, sink, TV, large closet, lovely bathroom, double bed. Given that I travelled in the summer, the air-conditioning in the apartment was a God-send. Makini has gone above and beyond & made an effort to help my stay become more comfortable by providing some complimentary water, soda, toiletries, magazines- something that's really only expected of hotels, not airB&B apartments. Makini and her mother Rose have been very accommodating as well, and have allowed us to leave luggage behind after checkout to facilitate final day sight-seeing and onward travel plans. I would recommend this listing to all those travelling to New York.
It was cute and cozy! Great neighbourhood, cute grocery store down the street and location to train station!
Makini greeted us on our first night, and was so sweet and hospitable. Her apartment was clean, cozy, beautifully decorated, and perfect for our weekend in New York. We easily found a parking spot right down the street from it, and left our car there the whole time. The apartment was a really short walk from the subway, which made it easy to get anywhere in the city. It was just so nice to have such a homey apartment to come back to at the end of a long day!
She made us feel very welcome :)
Fantastic place to stay! Highly recommend it!
Makini is fantastic, her space is exactly as it is pictured and it is in a very desirable neighborhood. Utica Ave. is central to all of our travel through Brooklyn and Manhattan. She was very accommodating and we could not have asked for more!
Makini was very easy to get a hold of and communicate with before and during my stay. The space was just what I needed, clean and comfortable and really close to the subway! The apt has an AC unit which is really appreciated in the summer months! I will def be back next time I visit NYC. Thanks again for having me Makini!
