Ana was very prompt when we emailed questions. We did not meet her but felt welcome by Maria her on site care taker.
My niece appreciated a chance to explore the local area with Maria and practice her Spanish! The home and amenities were as depicted on line. Everything was tastefully decorated and immaculate. I enjoyed the spacious bedroom with private bath and excellent hot water shower. Maria even supplied some basics kitchen supplies such as condiments, tea bags and a large plate of cookies. We paid for a large jug of purified water. There was also a small daily fee for using wifi in the rental.
Living in zone 3 in this gated rental seemed safe and secure. It is an easy 15-20 minute walk to Parque Central even for me at age 72 :). Around the corner, was a nice breakfast cafe and bakery. The banana bread was moist and delicious and a good price. It was perfect to take back to the rental for a light meal. About 2 blocks away is a fast food spot on the 2 nd floor of a small strip mall called Dery which had great wifi and large screen Tv for watching soccer. The papa frites were tasty...other food nothing special.
Walking on 14th avenida toward Parque Central you will pass the Teatro ( theater) Right across the street look for Don Rodrigues cafe with wonderful large tortas and a nice ambience.
We are from Canada, our first time in Guatemala. We loved Ana's place in Xela. It was spacious, clean, quiet, quirky - an oasis - you would never know once inside that you were in the middle of a bustling city. Ana was great at communicating with us both before and after our stay. Having the housekeeper Maria next door was great as she assisted us with various things.... and enough good things can't be said about Maria - she is wonderful!! The location is great - about a 20 minute walk to the Parque Central, 10 minutes to the market. We would highly recommend this home.
Nice, very spacious house in a good location with a well-equipped kitchen + washing machine. We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed it very much. A taxi to the center of town usually ran us 35Q, and wifi in the house was $2.50 per day. The housekeeper Maria was very helpful; she met us at the bus station to walk us to the house, had a loaf of sweet bread ready as a welcome gift, and helped us with our laundry when we got drenched during a hike. I can definitely see myself staying at Ana's house again! Thanks!
We love Ana's house. This was our second stay there, and everything about it is a pleasure. It's full of sunlight coming through skylight windows, it's spacious, and it's very well located for restaurants, grocery stores and so forth. It's perfect for groups, and one of the highlights of the house is that Maria, the housekeeper, will welcome you and make you feel at home. We highly recommend this listing.
I had a delightful stay in this home. It is spacious, so there was certainly room for more people than just me. But it was nice to have that extra space, with a choice of bedrooms in which I could sleep.
In Ana's absence, Maria was extremely helpful to me, meeting me at the bus station, giving me maps to use, and insisting on cooking me a breakfast before my departure.
We can’t say enough about how wonderful Ana’s home was in Quetzaltenango. We stayed for 5 days and nights in January 2015 and enjoyed our entire time. The house is huge, nicely furnished, bright and very comfortable. It is tucked behind a big black door in an area of local shops. Once through those doors you will be very pleased with your decision to stay here.
We also can’t say enough about how helpful both Ana (in the USA) and Maria (housekeeper) were. We had tried to arrange various hiking and market tours ahead of time but the local tour companies just weren’t able to confirm reservations with us or in some cases simply didn’t get back to us with complete information. Ana and Maria came to our rescue and bent over backwards to help arrange various local tours for us. Maria even took us in hand on a full day outing to 3 distant markets and on another occasion came with us in the taxi to meet our hiking guide at 5am! Above and beyond for sure. While our Spanish is poor and Maria’s English non-existent, she made it work.
If you are looking for a private home rental in this fine town, go no further. You won’t be disappointed!
