Mark and I had a fantastic time with Manuel at his home in Cusco.
The view of the city is beautiful, especially at night. On the top floor, there's a little lounge area which anyone can use for dinner or a few cocktails.
The room itself was basic and cozy, and we slept great. Plus there's a hot shower, which you may find is a rare treat in Peru! Manuel also arranged to pick us up from the airport, helped us with recommendations of museums and restaurants, and for a reasonable fee he drove us around the Sacred Valley to sites we wanted to see. He was an excellent host, and we felt like we got a great insider's perspective on Cusco. His English is fantastic, and he's super knowledgeable, so he was an invaluable resource.
The apartment is a little off the beaten path, but if you're looking for places on Airbnb, you probably like that. It's a nice 10-15 minute walk to the Historic Center and Plaza de Armas, and it's not in a touristy part of town. A cab to downtown costs something between 7-10 soles if you don't want to walk up the hill.
We highly recommend this place! If we're ever in Cusco again, we'll be back!
Manuel was a very helpful host and he has a great family. Beds are comfortable and the view from their home is fantastic. I also engaged his father Daniel for a guided tour of the city. He was very informative and professional. I great value. I highly recommend staying here when visiting Cusco.
Our stay with Manuel started with a warm handshake and him saying to us "let's go home. From the moment we arrived at "home" we were made to feel so welcome. This is a true family operation, from the start we were told we were part of the family and we felt like part of the family. The room was simple but clean and inviting, the alpaca blankets make for a comfortable sleep.
We had breakfast each morning with the family, very good family food with a wonderful atmosphere. Our every need was taken care of, Manuel was constantly asking to make sure we were good or if we needed anything without being overbearing. Manuel gave us a short tour of the city so we could get our bearings, pointing out interesting areas as we went. Manuel's father acted as our guide on many day and overnight trips, he is a wealth of information, giving insights into the region and culture that you could not get anywhere else.
If you are looking for a home away from home, a place where your every need is taken care of, this is your place. This is not a place for the party crowd, this is a family that has opened their home to give the best experience to a visitor to Cuzco.
I would highly recommend this home stay to anyone coming for a unforgettable experience. If you are wanting to party and get a little crazy this is not you place. I give Manuel a 200% grade for our stay.
Our stay with Manuel and his family was amazing from airport pickup to drop-off. He spoke excellent English and was very instructive and patient with our desire to speak Spanish. His home is a short 20 minute walk to the center of the city. The rooms were very clean and there was a fantastic view of the city just outside our door. He was always accommodating ...everything from blankets and bottled water to help acquiring tickets for our traveling even after we left Cuzco. We hired his father's services as a licensed guide and that was an equally amazing experience. He was very knowledgable about Peruvian history and willing to tailor the tours and experiences(i.e.local restaurants, scenic routes, sights, and general tips on getting around) to our interests and time frame. By the time we reached Machu Picchu we could fully appreciate this awesome wonder of the world! I must mention the delicious and plentiful meals prepared by Manuel's sweet wife. We were so care for, it was hard to leave. Please treat yourself to a visit to Gringo-Feliz Homestay. You won't be disappointed!
We booked with Manuel for not just a stay, but also guided tours.
While the place itself was perfectly acceptable, it was the hospitality of Manuel and the wisdom displayed by Manuel's father that made this 5/5.
Having grown up in the jungle, he brought a certain sensbility to our guide. He took us around Cusco itself (rich with its own ruins), the neighboring cities, and then finally Machu Picchu.
He was a wealth of knowledge, and a delight.
We were also very lucky to see the Christmas fireworks display. As the place is on a hill, we had all of Cusco in front of us.
I'd highly recommend you stay here, not just for a place to put your bags, but for Daniel as your guide.
I couldn't be more grateful for all the kindness and fantastic hospitality that Manuel and his family offered. It was my first visit to Peru and if you are looking for a truly immersive yet comfortable and safe environment, this is definitely the place to stay.
I was fondly greeted by Manuel at the airport who, from that moment on, was more than helpful with many recommendations of the city of Cusco. On arrival, I was given a tour of the accommodation and was then able to enjoy the magnificent view of Cusco and a warm cup of coca tea. My room was spotless, beds very snug and warm even during those cold Cusconian nights. Hot showers were a blessing, especially after returning from my trek to Macchu Picchu. During this time Manuel even kept any extra belongings that I didn't want to hike with safe till my return.
During my stay I was able to enjoy lovingly prepared breakfasts and as I was travelling on my own, even joined the family for some dinners, the Peruvian pizza is definitely not to be missed! Manuel went beyond the call of duty and I must have seen nearly every sight worth seeing in Cusco. He took me for some outstanding tours of the sacred valley and archaeological sites and knows all the local places to try any traditional delicacies, if you're adventurous enough to try Cuy he knows the best place in town!
This accommodation would suit anyone looking for a well rounded experience of Peru, its history and culture, in a safe and humble environment all at a bargain price. As a single female traveller, the entire experience was more than I could have hoped for and would highly recommend the Gringo Feliz Homestay. I'm happy to say I am now eager to return to Cusco looking forward to seeing the family again soon!
The best part of staying at Manuel's place is the fact that you get to know him and his wonderful family. They are genuine, kind, friendly and they made us feel at home in every possible way. Manuel has got to be the most positive and cheerful guy in Peru. The room was great too. The beds were warm and very comfortable, and the view of Cusco from the window and balcony are amazing. I would love to visit again and would certainly recommend this place to travelers..
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay! The most accommodating and polite hosts you can ever find. I recommend staying here.
Gringo Feliz was a fantastic stay in culture rich Cusco. The view alone is worth the incredibly small charge! I was greeted by Manuel who gave us a quick tour and offered any extra help we could have asked for. He is seriously one of the nicest people I've ever met and made fantastic recommendations for everything my friend and I needed. :) He even made wake up calls for us, set up any taxi rides we needed, offered Coca tea and the list goes on. Also, the location is just minutes away from all Cusco's main attractions and the room was sensationally clean and cozy. I would recommend this airbnb stay to anyone. Manuel is THE MAN!
Me and my girlfriend had an amazing time at Manuel's place! His family is very friendly and do their best to make sure all our needs were met. His dad Daniel is a professional tour guide, so any places we wanted to see we could get a personal guide who speaks excellent English and knows his stuff. Every day we were offered a hearty and very filling breakfast. You can't help but feel surprised by how much you get for this little $. When we come back to Iquitos we will definitely say with Manuel again. We have also gained a friend!
