An apartment with a terrace to fall in love with Barcelona
Diego have been very helpful and gave us a very pleasant welcome! we will be back for sure!
Overall, this apartment was great for our first stay in Barcelona. Plenty of space for 2, it was clean with a comfortable bed, and we felt safe in the location-very close to the Paral-lel metro, which we used often. There were good places nearby for breakfast (365 has great pastries) and we went to Rincon del Artista for paella and the Barca game one night, which was also great. Our only notes were the washing machine was broken and didn't get fixed during our stay, and we had to wait a while to get into the apartment when we first arrived. Diego sent an email with some recommendations nearby, but was overall a hands-off kind of host, which was fine for us.
Diego was admirably flexible with our arrival - we had originally planned to arrive in the late afternoon, but it was late in the evening before we finally arrived and Diego was not difficult about it, which we were grateful for. The flat was smaller than we had expected and the photos of the kitchen and bathroom did not match reality (perhaps old photos? The dimensions were right, but the colour schemes and accessories such as the bathroom mirror were different from the photos and the bathtub was a different one too - avocado instead of black). On the other hand, the terrace was roomier than you would believe from the photos.
There were a few negatives, however:
1) Not particularly clean (e.g. a thick layer of dust atop the free-standing fridge/freezer);
2) A distinct smell of mould in the bathroom;
3) Very few kitchen utensils (for example, only two pots and one frying pan, and the hob was too small for fitting the frying pan and a pot at the same time (!), making cooking awkward);
4) Kitchen paper instead of kitchen towel to dry the dishes;
5) Due to previous guests having locked themselves out on the terrace, Diego felt it necessary to lock the sliding doors permanently and the access to the terrace was now through the bedroom instead of through the living room/kitchen. Understandable measure to take, but it made for an awkward detour when you wanted to have your breakfast/dinner on the terrace. The website showed the sliding doors wide open and therefore it was disappointing to find out that it was not actually possible to create a big open space of the terrace and the living room/kitchen.
Overall, our feelings are that although the flat represents good value for money it is not a much loved and cared-for flat, and next time in Barcelona we will stay somewhere else and pay a bit more.
We arrived by boat from Italy. Unfortunately the boat was delayed for almost 3 hours. Because of this we docked at around 9pm instead of 6:15pm. We had the feeling the host wasn't all to happy about this.
Regarding the apartment. The photographer really deserves a medal. The Photos are much much better than reality. In our opinion they do not show how it really is, but make it look alot nicer than
it is. We we're somewhat disappointed with the place in total. It is simply old and not very well maintained. It also was far from clean. Hair in bathtub/shower drain, rust in the kitchen, lots of dust and dirt on top of the freestanding fridge.
Doors to the hallway and bathroom had broken doorhandles/locks and therefor did not close well. Not something you want when the toilet is in the bathroom.
Overall we would surely not stay here again.
Maybe you cant expect all to much for a certain amount of money, but cleanliness is something you should always get.
We had a great time in Barcelona and enjoyed the apartment. The terrace is great and big, and the apartment was fresh except the glasses which were not really clean upon arrival. I can strongly recommend this apartment!
On arrival we called Diego and 5 minutes later we were in his cosy studio.
We had a great time in Barça and were very pleased with the metro Parallel just 100 meters from his place.
Airco, shower, fridge, TV, wifi ... Everything you need to cool down was present.
Every morning we enjoyed our open air breakfast on the terrace.
We would not doubt to go back to Diego's place one day.
Diego was a great host, meeting to explain the apartment to us and answering any questions.
The profile accurately described this excellent property. Great location, nice size and beautiful terrace.
We'll be back.
