Description

The space

"La Cigale Monplaisir" is a nice and charming location in Arles.
From 2 to 3 people can share comfortably this 30m2 flat type house, without frontal neighbours.
Due to the plenty of sunshine, comfortable equipment and central gas heat system, this place can be cosy and nice the whole year long.
The decor is neat and the house has vintage furnitures. There's only one room, but for a two rooms configuration, the sofa can be installed in the large kitchen. The south oriented terrace and the private garden offers great opportunities for dinners, resting, sun bathing and barbecues.
We also offer a free LAN WIFI connection in the bedroom and the garden.

Guest access

If you come by car the address is easy to find and the street offers many opportunities for free on-street parking.
If you come by train I can pick-up you at the Arles station and take you back.

Interaction with guests

The house, the terrace and the garden are independent. We live in another house just near your but we are discrete and we won't disturb you.
We will welcome you genially, we can loan bikes for your own comfort. We speak english and we understand spanish and italian; we will propose to you french breakfasts, brunches, and many other useful and smart services.

Let us help you to appreciate our lovely neighborhood and the city, one of the greatest cultural place in South of France with its roman antiquities, museums and festivals of course!
Near Arles you can also reach Avignon (Palais des Papes), Nîmes, Montpellier and Marseille by car or by train in less than one hour. In the closer nearby you will find a lot of local specialities : craftsmen, gastronomic restaurants, winery, fruits and others great local products…

Finally, remember that Arles is located at the crossroad of three genuine and unique natural territories : Alpilles, Camargue and Crau, which will offer to you many possibilities of trekking, sports, ornithology, fishing and other outdoor activities.

One week certainly won't be enough to discover, visit and experiment all the possibilities; but ask us, and we will help you to organize your stay!

The neighborhood

Monplaisir neighbourhood is located in the North-eastern Arles area, built with charming 30's and 40's style working class villas.

The street is very quiet and offers many opportunities for free on-street parking. The location is ideal for both reach the center of town by foot (20min.) or cycling (5 min.). You can also easily reach the nearby local interests.

The house is really easy to reach by car. You can easily park just in front of the house, that's is often no possible in the historic center.

Dan and Ann did everything they could to ensure we felt welcome, keeping great contact before the trip, answering any enquiries we had over text whilst we were there, lending us bikes, sharing an hospitable evening with us in their home, providing us with fresh eggs from the chickens in their garden, whilst still respecting our privacy. They are excellent hosts. We also got to find and name a newly hatched tortoise in the garden, which was a highlight. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe, not far from Arles (20mins walk), parking no problem, and a great base for travelling around, seeing a different city or town, visiting the Pont du Gard, the Camargue and the sea all within an hours drive. Oh and the bed is very comfortable!

We stayed at Dans apartment for 6 nights. We were very satisfied and felt really comfortable like at home. Everything was well prepared for our stay and we got many recommendations from Dans parents, who were also very nice. Dans apartment is also well located in case you want to explore the Provence. We recommend Dans apartment.

Dan was as charming as the listing. He was accommodating, thoughtful, and generous. His communication was immediate and thorough and he recommended itineries for us. The house was spacious and quite with outdoor space. We had all that we needed. I especially enjoyed his bicycles to use to ride around that enchanting village. The house was just far enough away to be out of the traffic and expected city noise, but close enough to reach everything on foot or bike. The farmers market is probably the most grand in the land. Arles is also a good base to take day trips to many other cities less than an hour away. Dan and his wife and Arles will remain in my memoirs.

If I could give Dan more than 5 stars, I would. Our stay was absolutely wonderful and perhaps the highlight of our whole trip in France. From the moment we arrived, Dan made us feel welcome. He picked us up at the train station and showed us how to use everything in the house. He is very knowledgeable about Arles and provided us with maps, recommendations for things to see and eat, and even a schedule of events for the festival that happened to be going on while we were there. The house was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay (towels, cooking supplies, even sunscreen in case we forgot it!) Dan also allowed us to use his extra bicycles to get around which was really fun and made it even easier to get around Arles (though the area is very walkable if you do not wish to use the bikes). I would recommend Dan to any of my friend or family who decide to visit Arles. Thanks for an awesome stay, Dan!

Dan was extremely helpful and welcoming, he picked us up from the train station which after a long journey was very much appreciated. The house was exactly as described charming yet functional, there was everything there that we needed from the water, orange juice and wine in the fridge to the daily croissants delivered fresh from the bakery by Dan. We made good use of the kitchen with its well-stocked larder containing a good range of utensils and condiments enabling us to buy local produce from the markets and sample authentic French cuisine. We spent a lovely evening with Dan and his wife Anne, enjoying their hospitably, local wine and food as well as sharing stories and experiences whilst trying to improve our French! Fortunately Dan’s English is superb so we didn't have to try too hard. The layout of the house and garden provided a private outside area perfect for relaxing and reading. Dan’s house is next door so he was on hand to offer assistance if needed but very discreet allowing you to enjoy your time in a relaxed manner. Dan provided us with a rich variety of information about the area and the town of Arles, this really helped us to make the most of our time in the region. We made good use of the bikes he provided and soon became acquainted with the best routes in and around the town. We enjoyed our trip to Arles and our stay at Dan’s house and will definitely be returning. It is a beautiful area, Dan and Anne made us feel so welcome we really appreciated their hospitality. We would strongly recommend their accommodation as every aspect of our stay was faultless.

Dan is an exceptional host who is not only committed to ensuring that his guests have a beautiful and completely functional home to call their own while in another country, he is also dedicated to enabling his guests to discover what makes Arles and Provence so wonderful. After picking me up from the train station, Dan kindly provided an introduction to Arles by first asking what had brought me to the area. His overview of Arles' many offerings was then attuned to my interests. Additionally, Dan provided a biking tour of the city to contextualize his site-seeing recommendations. In addition, he loaned bikes (providing a tutorial on shifting gears), a backpack for the market, and a safety vest for riding my bike at night as an extra precaution. The most memorable moments of my trip are thanks to Dan: a home-made Provençal dinner of market fresh produce, a sampling of locally produced eau de vie, and a beautiful bike ride from Arles to Les Beaux that was the highlight of my vacation (I could not have accomplished this ride without Dan and his wife's navigation or cheerleading as they biked with me for the first leg of the trip). I stayed in Dan's charming house in Montplasir for a full week, making day trips very easily out of the Arles train station. Biking into the historic center of Arles takes only a few minutes through the quiet neighborhood, and the Saturday/ Wednesday market is even closer. Throughout the week, Dan eagerly provided travel suggestions and tips whenever I inquired. I hope that you have the opportunity to spend some time in Dan's villa in Arles. I have no doubt that your trip will be exceptional!

I'm a musician and photographer, born in 1966 in Arles, FR. My wife Anne is a contemporary dance producer in Montpellier. We live in a house next to your location, but we're discrete and we will leave you alone except if you ask us something.
You can ask us for fresh organic eggs because we have three hens, but they won't disturb you, because they live in a garden on the other side of our house.
That said, Bengali the cat or Hortense the turtle may visit you with curiosity and without announcement during your stay.
