This beautifully handcrafted home built in 1932, nestled among the Redwoods, is a true Treehouse retreat that offers a distinguished and uncommon getaway experience. Just minutes from Guerneville's unique shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars, as well as being a stone's throw from Johnson's Beach and Armstrong Woods, this charming and rustic home is perfect for couples, friends, and families.
My house in the Redwoods is surrounded by decks, offers commanding views of the Russian River Valley, and gets plenty of sun during the day. Thinking that this setting would be perfect for a barbeque with friends? I agree, which is why there is a fully-equipped gas-range grill and patio table with umbrella that seats four. Once the evening sun has set (or the morning sun has risen), the hot tub on the side of the house provides the perfect place to relax.
Inside, the main entrance opens into a spacious living room with high ceilings that feels like a loft, but with the warmth and charm of a tree house bungalow. A handcrafted wood spiral staircase just off the main living area, leads upstairs to the first loft-style master bedroom. Much like a cozy hammock, windows on one side open to overlook the living room, while the opposite side windows overlooks the tree tops. The second master bedroom located downstairs has a cable-ready television with its own doorway off the deck that leads up to the hot tub.
The kitchen comes fully equipped with an oven, electric stove, microwave, and all the utensils and cookware you could possibly need.
Check-in at 4:00pm; Check-out at 11:00am. Prior to leaving, kindly fill the dishwasher and turn it on. Throw any used towels in the washing machine, and if you brought along your pooch, please pick up after him/her. Your $100 cleaning deposit will take care of all the rest. Lastly, please ensure that you drop the house key in the lock box upon departure. That’s it! Thank you and enjoy your stay.
Gordon's Treehouse is beautiful and serene. The view from the deck and the bedrooms is absolutely stunning - it literally feels like you're waking up high amongst the Redwoods. The deck was equipped with everything you need for a romantic outdoor evening under the stars, and the house beautifully designed for a cozy evening in. Though we didn't get to meet Gordon, we would have loved to. He was very communicative and accommodating prior to our stay, providing every bit of information we'd need to have a lovely, relaxing weekend. Will definitely return!
Wow - this was such a great escape from the city! We didn't get to experience all the great hikes, kayaking, etc., which is a perfect excuse to return! I loved this place. Perfect for family getaways or something a bit more romantic.
The Redwood tree house was a great experience and would return if I had the chance. Perhaps my expectations were higher but I had hoped that the house was more secluded. The hot tub was great but had direct sight to the neighbors and the massive deck was great but also overlooks the next door neighbor who we continually saw. The stairs are narrow to the loft and basement but hey its a treehouse..... what do you expect! The basement is damp with musky spell which I guess you get that in the redwoods but its not a livable space for me. The issue I had and it occurs across airbnb is if you charge a cleaning fee, don't expect me to do the dishes, laundry, and take out the trash.
Gordon was responsive and provided plenty of information to make the stay easy. It is a lovely spot- cozy on the inside and a really nice shaded outdoor deck area, great for leisurely meals in the redwoods. The street is incredibly steep, although pretty minimal traffic, so fine for walking (if you don't mind a 20% grade). We also really liked the beautiful beach along the river that is in walking distance from his home!
We had a great time staying in this "treehouse." Though not an actual treehouse, you get the feeling you are living half-way up redwood trees. This feeling is enhanced by the very narrow spiral staircases that take you to the loft and a downstairs bedroom.
We didn't meet Gordon, but he was a wonderful email communicator. He also had put together a great resource book to help us find things and learn our way around. We felt warmly welcomed into this special home. The road to Gordon's home is surprising... straight-- well, a little zig-zaggy- up a very steep hill that keeps going! You have to go VERY slowly to see the house number.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The only negative aspect of our stay was that it was too short. I hope to return to the area and find Gordon's house available to book my stay.
Like most things, Gordon's Treehouse has some pros and some cons. The main thing to note, is that while the house has a great tri-level layout, the staircases to the upper loft and downstairs bedroom are both very narrow with high, smooth steps and little in the way of railings--as such, it made it quite perilous to go either up or down them. Because we had our infant with us, this made things much more difficult, so my wife and I ended up staying on the ground floor on a small futon. The gorgeous deck that goes around the whole house is easily the best feature.
I am a single 48 year old man who lives and works in San Francisco. 2 years ago, I purchased my beautiful house up in the trees of Guerneville as a weekend retreat away from the city. It is very special to me and I love spending time up there.
Since my busy work schedule prevents me from escaping to Guerneville as much as I would like, I've decided to share my beautiful and unique house in the trees with others, rather than let it sit empty and unused. Those of you lucky enough to find respite here will undoubtedly understand why staying in this space is such a special experience.
