Our bright and peaceful studio is perfect for short to medium stays in Sydney. Situated in the city's funkiest suburb, only a few blocks from Sydney uni, Carriageworks Performance Space, RPA hospital and public transport. Can even walk to the city!

The Space

We have recently renovated our self Contained Studio Apartment at the back of our property. It is bright and spacious with everything you could need for your stay. There is separate access from the side lane so you can be as private as you like but we are available for advice should you need it. The studio is set up for two adults however we are happy to accomodate families with a vast amount of kids paraphernalia around that you are welcome to borrow.

Location:
The studio is adjacent to Carriageworks with its multiple performance spaces, saturday farmers market and monthly artisan market. The local streetscape is quiet with beautiful mature english plane trees lining both sides. A park directly behind the studio is due to be completed in early 2014 (unfortuanely they are a year behind program so far).

We are very centrally located in Sydney with the CBD only 2 train stations away, or a 30 minute walk. Our nearest station is MacDonaldtown which is 2 minutes walk away.
Within 10 minutes walk of the studio is a multitude of restaurants, cafes and shops on the culturally vibrant King street. Sydney University, UTS University and RPA Hospital are also very close.

Accomodation:
It is a fully renovated light filled studio with 1 Queen Size Bed with crisp white sheets and comfy pillows. There is also:
Kitchennette (Single hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, saucepans, utensils, cuttlery & crockery etc.),
Separate bathroom with shower,
TV,
Wireless Internet,
Air conditioning,
Ceiling Fan,
Travel cot and blow up beds for children available if requested.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the garden on the way to the studio. Guests are welcome to use any of the herbs, tomatoes, limes and strawberries we have growing. I am happy to let you use the laundry in the main house if I am around. The garage is often left open to the garden and it useful for storing bags if you arrive early or need to catch a late flight.

Interaction with Guests

We live in the main house, while the studio is at the end of the garden above the garage. So we are close by to say hi, give tips on where to go and help out if you need anything but otherwise we don't often see a lot of the guests that have stayed so far. Access is through a separate gate into the garden with the studio entrance off the garden. On weekends if we are not sailing then the kids will often be playing in the lane and garden. I am in and out most days so I tend to leave the key for guests in a key safe by our front door.

The Neighborhood

Newtown is very funky and ecclectic. The suburb has gentrified a lot in the last 20 years so it has a suaver edge to the grittiness. King St is the main street with up and coming designer shops and every kind of restaurant you could dream of. Over the last few years there has been a bit of a baby boom in the area which has made it very child friendly.

Getting around

We are very close to Macdonaldtown train station (2 minutes walk) and redfern station (15 minutes walk). There are many buses that run along king street which is 5 minutes walk away. If you prefer to walk, the city is only about 30 minutes walk away.

  • Heather' s studio in Newtown is a tranquil, light -filled, cosy oasis smack in the middle of funky Newtown. A stones throw from Kylie Kwong's awesome breakfast stall at the Carriageworks market, and easy walk to Newtown's best ( Young Henry's, Hartsyard, Shemkin Kitchen, Earls Juke Joint, Newtown Social and lots of cute finds in between). Heather and her husband are a delight if you get to meet them & we really enjoyed reconnecting with our long love affair with our favourite suburb in Sydney.

  • The studio was exactly as promised. My husband spent two nights here as he was working in the area. It was light, bright, spotlessly clean, quiet at night and had everything one needed for a comfortable stay. Recommended.

  • Lovely spotlessly clean studio apartment. Next time I would bring my noise cancellation plugs though so the trains wouldn't wake me early. Great being such a short walk to King St and all restaurants.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this studio. The apartment was exactly as shown on Bnb, clean, comfortable and well stocked. Very good value. The host was approachable but not in your face. Even though the studio is above the garage, you would never know it because they are very respectful of people staying. Heather is highly responsive which is helpful if you have any questions. Perfect to cook a little meal or have a cup of tea. Super close to macdonaldtown train, minutes from king st and central. I would definitely recommend this studio and the host.

  • Only had minimal contact with host but seemed very nice. Met the children in the yard who were great and very friendly.

  • We loved coming home to the studio after traipsing around the city all day. The tasteful furnishings created a calming atmosphere with which to rejuvenate. The shower was lovely and hot, the bed was comfy with crispy sheets and various choices for pillows, and the kitchenette provided all we needed for eating in. The sunshine pours in the windows until late afternoon and the view is interestingly industrial. The trains are noticeable early morning and late evening so take some earplugs if you have trouble with sleeping. The advantage though is the short walk to the station.
Heather was a thoughtful and approachable host always making sure we were ok especially for parking and directions.
I would highly recommend the studio for exploring the inner city. And it is also very easy to get across town to the beaches by car or bus.

  • Adorable and homely little studio.
Heather was a perfect host and went well out of her way to help me manage a piece of missing luggage.
    I'm forever grateful :D

  • My wife and I loved this place and the surrounding neighbourhood. Sydney is an expensive city to visit and Heather's studio was outstanding value, with everything we needed for our three-day stay. She was also a charming host!

  • This is a beautiful studio flat in a great neighbourhood with good transportation links. The flat is separate from the main house, accessible from a side lane through the garden, so is very private. I had only minimal interaction with the hosts, but Heather was clearly very accessible if I needed anything. The information she provided anticipated what you might want to know, and was all very helpful. Newtown is a nice area for eating and drinking options, and Redfern is a short walk (10 minutes, if that) with more frequent train connections. I would strongly recommend this place for either one person or a couple.

About
I love my life. I have 2 beautiful children, an amazing husband, a great career as a handywoman. We regularly go sailing, camping and cycling. We've restored a 1973 kombi van which we have recently sent to her new home so we can focus on the boat instead. I grew up in Sydney and have finally returned after many years living in various parts of the world - France, USA, UK, Singapore.
