About this listing
Our bright and peaceful studio is perfect for short to medium stays in Sydney. Situated in the city's funkiest suburb, only a few blocks from Sydney uni, Carriageworks Performance Space, RPA hospital and public transport. Can even walk to the city!
We have recently renovated our self Contained Studio Apartment at the back of our property. It is bright and spacious with everything you could need for your stay. There is separate access from the side lane so you can be as private as you like but we are available for advice should you need it. The studio is set up for two adults however we are happy to accomodate families with a vast amount of kids paraphernalia around that you are welcome to borrow.
The studio is adjacent to Carriageworks with its multiple performance spaces, saturday farmers market and monthly artisan market. The local streetscape is quiet with beautiful mature english plane trees lining both sides. A park directly behind the studio is due to be completed in early 2014 (unfortuanely they are a year behind program so far).
We are very centrally located in Sydney with the CBD only 2 train stations away, or a 30 minute walk. Our nearest station is MacDonaldtown which is 2 minutes walk away.
Within 10 minutes walk of the studio is a multitude of restaurants, cafes and shops on the culturally vibrant King street. Sydney University, UTS University and RPA Hospital are also very close.
It is a fully renovated light filled studio with 1 Queen Size Bed with crisp white sheets and comfy pillows. There is also:
Kitchennette (Single hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, saucepans, utensils, cuttlery & crockery etc.),
Separate bathroom with shower,
Travel cot and blow up beds for children available if requested.
Guests have access to the garden on the way to the studio. The garage is often left open to the garden and it useful for storing bags if you arrive early or need to catch a late flight.
Interaction with Guests
We live in the main house, while the studio is at the end of the garden above the garage. So we are close by to say hi, give tips on where to go and help out if you need anything but otherwise we don't often see a lot of the guests that have stayed so far. Access is through a separate gate into the garden with the studio entrance off the garden. On weekends if we are not sailing then the kids will often be playing in the lane and garden. I am in and out most days so I tend to leave the key for guests in a key safe by our front door.
Newtown is very funky and ecclectic. The suburb has gentrified a lot in the last 20 years so it has a suaver edge to the grittiness. King St is the main street with up and coming designer shops and every kind of restaurant you could dream of. Over the last few years there has been a bit of a baby boom in the area which has made it very child friendly.
We are very close to Macdonaldtown train station (2 minutes walk) and redfern station (15 minutes walk). There are many buses that run along king street which is 5 minutes walk away. If you prefer to walk, the city is only about 30 minutes walk away.
Other Things to Note
We have now confirmed that the studio will be available during the Christmas/January school holiday period but at this stage we will only accept a minimum 7 night stay over this busy period.
No smoking inside or in the garden - please use the back lane.
Please turn the air conditioning off and close the bathroom skylight when you go out.
Our internet connection is not on an unlimited data plan so please be respectful and not download in excess.
Please treat the place as you would your own home.
From Dec 23, 2015 - Jan 17, 2016 the minimum stay is 4 nights.
Great studio, perfectly located. Everything we needed was on hand in this comfortable home away from home. Heather was very welcoming and helpful. We were sorry to leave and would have liked to stay longer.
Another wonderful stay in this perfect little apartment! I felt so lucky when I saw that it was available for us again! Heather was a wonderful host yet again!! I will always check if this space is available before I book anywhere else :)
Our host Heather and her mum Ruth were most welcoming and accommodating. The studio was exactly as described and perfect for our needs. Clean and cool on a very hot couple of days. It's close to some great coffee shops, restaurants and public transport and it's really easy to stroll up the street to King St and hail a cab. We'll be back.
We enjoyed our short stay at Heather's studio. It was very clean, cozy and organized. The location was great and it was very family friendly!
Our host was very helpful even though she was away for our stay. My email enquiries were answered immediately. The folder with information on the highlights of Sydney, scenic walks, transport (bus numbers) museums and much more was most useful. The studio was lovely with all the home comforts and a very comfortable bed. The Macdonaldtown Train Station was only a short walk and the trains ran every 15 minutes so we never had to wait for long, only two stops to Central. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be recommending it to all our friends.
The reservation was canceled 24 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
About the Host, Heather
I love my life. I have 2 beautiful children, an amazing husband, a great career as a handywoman.
We regularly go sailing, camping and cycling. We've restored a 1973 kombi van which we have recently sent to her new home so we can focus on the boat instead.
I grew up in Sydney and have finally returned after many years living in various parts of the world - France, USA, UK, Singapore.
