Apartment - Private room · North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60601, United States

This private bedroom is centrally located in the heart of Chicago's Loop neighborhood. It's convenient to tourist destinations, conventions, sporting events, concerts, Lollapalooza, Taste of Chicago, river cruises and more!

The Space

Stay in the heart of Chicago on Michigan Avenue! It's an affordable alternative to hotels, which can cost $200-$300+ per night!

The bedroom has a queen-size air mattress with bedding, 2 side tables, lamps, a computer desk and chair, a chest of drawers and a full length mirror. I provide clean towels and travel-sized soap and shampoo. There is a hair dryer that you may use.

I have some things in the large bedroom closet, but half of space is for your clothes. I'll make room in the refrigerator, if you want to buy food at the supermarket. Meals are not included in the price of the stay. Supermarkets, restaurants and cafes are plentiful in the area.

The bedroom will be yours (private/locking door from the inside), but this is a shared apartment. I live here full-time. I have a futon in the living area and put up room dividers when I go to sleep. Being quiet and respectful is essential if you stay here! Due to my schedule, I tend to go to bed around 8:30-9:00pm, so therefore lights cannot be flipped on, the microwave cannot beep, cooking cannot take place, slamming the front door upon entering or exiting, and loud conversations/music are not possible while staying here.

The apartment has heat and air conditioning. The building has a laundry facility, a gym, an indoor poor and a rooftop deck. The nearest subway (tube/metro) station is one block away. The commuter trains are very close, as well as numerous buses.

Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, is convenient to get to from here. The popular "hop on/hop off" bus tours start right across the street. In summer, free concerts are in Millennium Park, also right across the street. River and Lake cruises are a few minutes away. You'll be near The Bean, Crown Fountains, Buckingham Fountain, Lake Michigan, the Art Institute of Chicago. the Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, Willis Tower, Soldier Field and more! Most concert, sporting and conventon venues are easily reachable by public transport from here.

There is WIRED internet access in the bedroom (cable provided), and in the building, the resident lounge is a convenient work or study option with free WiFi. There are desktop computers and printers that can be used there, if you don't want to travel with a laptop.

I am a teacher who has a flexible holiday and summer schedule, but during the school year, I generally get up and go to bed very early, so not being woken up is extremely important. When the weather is good, I tend to be out enjoying the city with friends, but if it's raining or snowing, I'll most likely be around more.

Solo travelers preferred, but quiet, respectful couples/pairs of friends are welcome also! I love to host international visitors, as I love travel, languages and cultures!

It can be noisy here, as you'll be in the center of the city, especially if there is a concert or sporting event in town. Construction noise can begin early. Ambulances and pedestrian noise are common. Earplugs or a white noise app to sleep well at night (or nap during the day) are recommended!

I have a cat who is scared of people, so he shouldn't bother you. If you have pet allergies, my place certainly wouldn't be a good choice for you!

Now the serious part: While staying at my place, I will not allow excessive drinking, drugs of any kind, smoking, pets, inviting people over or opening the windows (due to my cat).

My name is Dorene, and I'd love to meet you! Get in touch soon! Hablo espanol tambien.

Guest Access

The bedroom is yours to use. I will not enter unless you request fresh towels, sheets or anythings else. You have use of the shared bathroom and use of the kitchen facilities during normal hours. The living area futon and my work desk are "my" space, so should be considered "off limits".

Interaction with Guests

Generally, I am pretty busy, so I quite often don't run into my guests that much! If people are out sight-seeing all day or at a business conference, I probably see them a couple of times during a typical stay. Some guests, I have not meet at all!

The Neighborhood

I love this part of Chicago and am still amazed that my "dream to move to Chicago" allowed me to move to this address! I love the convenience to all of the great attractions, the Lake, the River, restaurants, Grant Park and more.

Getting around

Getting around is super easy. The subway is a short block away with access to various lines. Buses are right outside the door. Taxis are plentiful at just about every hour of the day or night.

  • Staying at Dorene's place was just perfect. It was a very good location for my purpose to visit Chicago (conference downtown), the facilities were a great bonus and there are many nice places to eat or shop in the neighbourhood. Dorene is a very friendly and helpful host, who likes to keep to herself, but is also open for a good conversation. The room has a lot of space, and even though it's located on the front of the building, the streetnoise didn't bother me at all. And last but not least: I never knew an airmattress would sleep so comfortably! All in all, a great stay at Dorene's place.

  • The apartment was clean. The room was quite large and the bed was comfortable. There was no wifi but a cable was provided for internet connection. I had no issues with the stay. It was also very conveniently located in the downtown core - easily accessible, and walking distance to major tourist attractions (Michigan Mile, Art Institute, etc).
    Would recommend for quiet travellers.

  • Great location in a high rise !!! ...walk to everything downtown. Public transport at the door step. I could not have picked a better place or a better host. Although Dorene and I missed meeting each other, the communication was great, to the point and very helpful. The bed room is spacious enough, the big bed very comfortable, towels and shampoo were provided....everything very clean and inviting. Dorene's cat Manchego is very shy but very sweet. If she hadn't told me about him, I would have totally missed him. Dormen provide security to the building. I totally recommend Dorene's place for a visit to Chicago.

  • Doreen was a great hostess. Her place is the perfect location, nice building and apartment. She explains her expectations and delivers what she describes. It was really well done.

  • Dorene was my first airbnb host and she couldn't have been more welcoming and good to me. The apartment was perfectly clean and she just had everything so ready: shampoo, towels, keys, Chicago's tourist guides, etc. The location is also perfect. She was also open to talk and give me some recommendations about places to visit. I totally recommend her place. Thank you Dorene!!!!!

  • Fantastic place, exactly as advertized. Dorene was a very friendly, helpful, and gracious host, and the location was great. It certainly didn't hurt that the place was half a block from Intelligentsia, the best coffee in town.

  • Had a great stay with Dorene - the location of her place is perfect for exploring Chicago as its right next to Millennium park and a block walk from the Art Institute of Chicago.

Dorene is extremely helpful and her home is spotlessly clean and well-organised. Dorene gets up very early, so you need to be a pretty quiet guest to not wake her - so this perfect for people wanting to explore Chicago but party animals might be better staying elsewhere!

  • Dorene's place is in perfect location and a very clean space. You'll get your private room exactly as advertised. Overall great experience and highly recommend.

    December 2013
  • Dorene's home has a wonderful central position, very close to the Millennium park! you can find many restaurants and shops in few minutes walking. The room is confortable too and you have all you need (bath towels, shampoo and shower gel are also available).
I spent only few days in Chicago but I really liked it!
    Thanks Dorene for hospitality!

Hi! My name is Dorene and I moved to Chicago from Cleveland 10 months ago, and am loving it here! I enjoy travelling, music, cinema, long walks, animals, nature, languages, cultures, reading, photography, art, comedy, spoiling my nieces and nephew, darts, trivia games, staying fit, exploring Chicago, meals out, browsing online, the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks, The Big Bang Theory, La Furia Roja....oh yes, and tea. Must have tea! I dislike bad drivers, spiders (well, any kind of creepy-crawlies!), never-ending Chicago winters. bad grammar and the scent of skunk in the air! ;-) My favorite places thus far are Madrid, Paris, Salzburg, London, Seville, Venice, San Francisco, NYC and, of course, Chicago. Am dying to see Prague, Vienna, Dublin, Quebec, Montreal, Machu Picchu, Buenos Aires, Patagonia, Budapest, Warsaw, Tokyo...just to name a few! While here, if you want to chat, no problem! If you prefer to be left alone, that's fine too! I'm easy to get along with, helpful and flexible. I am a bit of a "neat freak", though, but at least you'll know my place will be clean! If you would like to stay at my place, please have something about yourself in your profile, a photo and tell me why you are visiting Chicago. I would probably say that if you plan to come here to "party" all night long, keep on looking. I am "old" and need my sleep! ;-) If you want a "romantic weekend" with your honey-bunny, um, I sleep mere feet away from you. Granted there is a wall, but it's not "that" thick! (*Disclaimer based on experience*) I am new to Airbnb hosting, but have hosted friends that visited me when living in Europe and also had a small home-stay program for international students while living in suburban Cleveland. Please leave kind feedback so that my cat and I can afford to keep our lovely home. ;-)
