Stay in the heart of Chicago on Michigan Avenue! It's an affordable alternative to hotels, which can cost $200-$300+ per night!
The bedroom has a queen-size air mattress with bedding, 2 side tables, lamps, a computer desk and chair, a chest of drawers and a full length mirror. I provide clean towels and travel-sized soap and shampoo. There is a hair dryer that you may use.
I have some things in the large bedroom closet, but half of space is for your clothes. I'll make room in the refrigerator, if you want to buy food at the supermarket. Meals are not included in the price of the stay. Supermarkets, restaurants and cafes are plentiful in the area.
The bedroom will be yours (private/locking door from the inside), but this is a shared apartment. I live here full-time. I have a futon in the living area and put up room dividers when I go to sleep. Being quiet and respectful is essential if you stay here!
The apartment has heat and air conditioning. The building has a laundry facility, a gym, an indoor poor and a rooftop deck. The nearest subway (tube/metro) station is one block away. The commuter trains are very close, as well as numerous buses.
Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, is convenient to get to from here. The popular "hop on/hop off" bus tours start right across the street. In summer, free concerts are in Millennium Park, also right across the street. River and Lake cruises are a few minutes away. You'll be near The Bean, Crown Fountains, Buckingham Fountain, Lake Michigan, the Art Institute of Chicago. the Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, Willis Tower, Soldier Field and more! Most concert and sporting venues are easily reachable by public transport from here.
There is WIRED internet access in the bedroom (cable provided), and in the building, the resident lounge is a convenient work or study option with free WiFi. There are desktop computers and printers that can be used there, if you don't want to travel with a laptop.
I am a teacher who has a flexible holiday and summer schedule, but during the school year, I generally get up and go to bed very early, so not being woken up is extremely important. When the weather is good, I tend to be out enjoying the city with friends, but if it's raining or snowing, I'll most likely be around more.
Solo travelers, as well as quiet, respectful couples/pairs of friends are welcome! I love to host international visitors, as I love travel, languages and cultures!
It can be noisy here, as you'll be in the center of the city, especially if there is a concert or sporting event in town. Construction noise can begin early. Ambulances and pedestrian noise are common. Earplugs or a white noise app to sleep well at night (or nap during the day) are recommended!
I have a cat who is scared of people, so he shouldn't bother you. If you have pet allergies, my place certainly wouldn't be a good choice for you!
Now the serious part: While staying at my place, I will not allow excessive drinking, drugs of any kind, smoking, pets, inviting people over or opening the windows.
I have a new women's mountain bike that can be rented out for $6/day with a $150 deposit. (Sorry, but if the bike is stolen in the city, I'll need to buy a new one!)
My name is Dorene, and I'd love to meet you! Get in touchsoon! Hablo espanol tambien.
The bedroom is yours to use. I will not enter unless you request fresh towels, sheets or anythings else. You have use of the shared bathroom and use of the kitchen facilities during normal hours. The living area futon and my work desk are "my" space, so should be considered "off limits".
Generally, I am pretty busy, so I quite often don't run into my guests that much! If people are out sight-seeing all day or at a business conference, I probably see them a couple of times during a typical stay.
I love this part of Chicago and am still amazed that my "dream to move to Chicago" allowed me to move to this address! While it can be noisy, you do get used to it. I love the convenience to all of the great attractions, the Lake, the River, restaurants, Grant Park and more.
Getting around is super easy. The subway is a short block away with access to various lines. Buses are right outside the door. Taxis are plentiful at just about every hour of the day or night.

Doreen was a great hostess. Her place is the perfect location, nice building and apartment. She explains her expectations and delivers what she describes. It was really well done.
Dorene was my first airbnb host and she couldn't have been more welcoming and good to me. The apartment was perfectly clean and she just had everything so ready: shampoo, towels, keys, Chicago's tourist guides, etc. The location is also perfect. She was also open to talk and give me some recommendations about places to visit. I totally recommend her place. Thank you Dorene!!!!!
Fantastic place, exactly as advertized. Dorene was a very friendly, helpful, and gracious host, and the location was great. It certainly didn't hurt that the place was half a block from Intelligentsia, the best coffee in town.
Had a great stay with Dorene - the location of her place is perfect for exploring Chicago as its right next to Millennium park and a block walk from the Art Institute of Chicago.
Dorene is extremely helpful and her home is spotlessly clean and well-organised. Dorene gets up very early, so you need to be a pretty quiet guest to not wake her - so this perfect for people wanting to explore Chicago but party animals might be better staying elsewhere!
Dorene's place is in perfect location and a very clean space. You'll get your private room exactly as advertised. Overall great experience and highly recommend.
Dorene's home has a wonderful central position, very close to the Millennium park! you can find many restaurants and shops in few minutes walking. The room is confortable too and you have all you need (bath towels, shampoo and shower gel are also available).
I spent only few days in Chicago but I really liked it!
Thanks Dorene for hospitality!
Great place to stay in central part of Chicago. Close to restaurants and shopping. Nice and clean room.
Dorene was a great host and the apartment was perfect! Thanks a lot!
The location is perfect - the apartment is clean and spacious - Dorene is awesome! Totally enjoyed being within walking distance to all my meetings. A gem in the heart of the city -- don't pass this one up!
Doreen was great, the place is as listed and what a spectacular location. Doreen helped us with identifying a place for our luggage on an early arrival and even had a couple of goodies for us upon checkin. Excellent place!
