The stay at Michaels apartment was pleasant, the apartment was big and clean. The queensize bed was really comfy.
The apartment wasn't completely separate, it was previously one huge 3 storey house and the apartment is located on the 3rd floor, Michael lives on the first two floors. It is not very clear from the pictures, but there are no doors in the flat (except the bathroom), so if you are a couple + someone else, noone gets much privacy. Also as it is an old house and we came in March (this March is exceptionally cold), the apartment was quite cold, mostly in the mornings. Another disadvatage of an old house are holes in the wooden flooring, through which a mouse used to come out. We have nothing against animals, but for some people this may be a big problem :-) Although we asked for some mouse traps at the very beggining and we were promissed to get them, we didn't get any at all.
The location of the flat is great, it takes about 20-30 minutes to get to Manhattan and it is really close to both A and C trains. Also very easy to get to / from JFK airport. We got used to living in Brooklyn after few days and there were some really nice places to eat out and to do the shopping in the close neighbourhood.
Michael and his family went above and beyond being hosts. They helped my elderly father up the stairs each night and then moved us to the bottom apartment. The apartments were lovely and well equipped. I recommend that if your travels bring you to New York that you consider staying with Michael and his family.
Michael was a fantastic host. His son, Michael Junior was always ready to help me and my daughter to bring our suitcases to the third floor of the building. Also, when my daughter's friend suddenly decided to visit her from out of town, Michael was very accomodating
The apartment is great - large, full of light and character. The extra heater warms up the place on the cold nights.
The location could not be better - A and C trains within 10 and 6 minute walk. The neighborhood is lovely. We felt welcome and safe.
I encourage Michael to make the few small changes that Sandra, the reviewer of the apartment in November 2014 suggested. Also, I wish I would have known that the two bedrooms do not have doors, since my adult daughter and I each wanted privacy, discovering that bedrooms do not have doors was a bit of surprise.
Michael and his familiy are fantastic hosts, he had a plenty of tips for eating and shopping. The place is nicely furnished and equipped. We felt very welcome. Highly recommended.
Michael was an awesome host and we highly recommend him. We booked at the last min literally and Michael was very accommodating and welcoming. The apt is in a good neighborhood and a block away from the subway. The bed was really comfy and the comforter warm and cozy. Michael also has plenty of reading material to enjoy. We couldn't have asked for a better host or place to stay.

I own several brownstones in Bedford Stuyvesant I love restoring these rare and beautiful works of art. My family and I live in the property. I Love Bedford-Stuyvesant for the many brownstones (each one unique in its own way) and the diverse community of people, but don't just take my word for it, come and see for yourself... you will be happy you did.
