Set in the tranquil Valverde valley, 2km from Praia da Luz and a stones throw away from Lagos town, this restored farmhouse offers apartment holiday accommodation in traditional rustic and natural surroundings.
Intentionally simple, exposed beams, traditional calçada (stone) floors, terracotta against whitewashed walls, natural wood and sloping ceilings; each apartment is delightfully furnished with an eclectic mix of regional styles and artifacts from North Africa.
The apartment opens on to views of the hilltop beyond which are the stunning beaches of Praia da Luz ( "Beach of Light") and Lagos.
The apartment comprises of an open-plan sitting room and separate bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen.
The kitchens are generously equipped, with a washing machine, refrigerator, microwave, gas hob, oven, toaster and kettle.
Each apartment has a tv with a DVD player, an Ipod dock, and wireless internet is available on request. In addition, each apartment offers its own private patio and barbecue area for alfresco dining.
There is a small circular swimming pool in the shared gardens, surrounded by a decked terrace with recliners and sun shades and enclosed by flowering shrubs and climbers.
The Gallery apartment has 2 bedrooms suitable for 4 adults and an open plan kitchen on the mezzanine, "gallery", overlooking the main living area.
The bathroom is a cool yellow comprising of a bath/shower, toilet and sink.
The kitchen is fully equipped w/ washing machine, cooker/oven, microwave and all necessary kitchen utensils.
The appartment is full of light as one of the walls are several 2.5 by 1.5 metre windows overlooking the colourful courtyard.
This apartment is ideal for animal lovers (dogs, horses, doves, chickens, geckos), but if you don't, they keep to themselves and out of your space.
I am not comfortable with guests bringing their pets with them as this causes upset to my animals.
I only ask that you respect the other guests and be calm around the horses/dogs/chickens.
Please if you ever have any problems do not hesitate to tell me as I will always be happy to help or amend the existing problem!
We had the most wonderful stay at Ruth's gorgeous place in Luz. From start to finish Ruth was super helpful and there to answer any questions or queries. The house itself was beautiful - perfect temperature, clean and even nice than the photos show. The fridge was stocked with a few essentials and there were more food bits in the larder for use, such as olive oil, tea bags and condiments. The house is a 15 minute walk across the gorgeous hills to the beach, and only a 5euro taxi ride home after dinners. It was everything we could've wished for and more. We will definitely be back :)
We loved our stay at Ruth's rustic farmhouse! A short walk to the sea and a lovely beach. A great location to explore the Algarve by car. Ruth is a fantastic host. We arrived hungry and tired on a late bus from Seville. Our rental car was not available until the next day. Ruth picked us up at the station and provided us with supplies to make ourselves some dinner. Thanks Ruth!
Ruth's home was amazing, and exactly what we hoped it would be. Very relaxed, chill, with animals and nature everywhere to enjoy. The sounds of the doves and horses were perfect. The home itself was equipped with everything we needed and even some snacks which was super nice. Ruth was a great host, and very helpful. I came down with a cold before our visit and she even rushed over with some medicine! Thanks Ruth! The electric blankets were awesome at night. Toto, her dog, is the cutest!
We really really enjoyed out stay at Ruths place. In the middle of wonderful nature we spent 8 days of happiness. The house is super comfortable and has everything you need. The horses and dogs are friendly and it´s a country life in the middle of the Algarve. I never thought that it is nice like this. We loved our heating blankets under the bed sheets and for sure we gonna come back.
And Ruth is a women with a big heart and sunny smile.
Great place, 10 minutes from the most beautifull beaches (our first choice is definitely Praia Dona Ana), but you feel like you were in the country side. Ruth should add pictures from outside the house!
Ruth was very kind, especially with our kid (7 years old).
The place is as discribed "Rustic" so don't wait for modern and design feature, that's part of the charm.
I stayed in Ruth's flat with three friends and we absolutely loved our experience. Located in a beautiful green valley close to Praia de Luz, her home was perfectly situated for a lovely walk to the sea or the local village. The horses and dogs roaming around were charming. The flat was definitely big enough for 4, and we used the grill and the kitchen to cook a lovely dinner at home one night. The apartment definitely is "rustic," though, and the appliances aren't exactly modern - we had to ask Ruth for help with operating the heaters, and we had trouble maintaining a consistent shower temperature. Overall, however, I would highly recommend this flat and this area to anyone visiting the Algarve!
Ruth's place was exactly as described and a peaceful place to kick back and slow down a bit. It is a short 20 minute walk to the beach in Luz and we often walked to the beach or the cliffs above, taking in the breathtaking scenery. The small town of Luz had a few places to eat lunch or dinner and we really enjoyed not having to take our the car everyday. We also went into Lagos (a short drive, maybe 10 min) for dinner a few times. It is a charming town which lends itself well to strolling and dining. Ruth's place was quiet, well appointed and very comfortable.
Our favourite things:
- Seeing the beautiful night sky without it being dimmed by light pollution
- Nature being so close by for walks
- The beach at Luz and accompanying town.

Hi, I'm Ruth. My family originate from the lovely, south west corner of Wales in the UK. I have been living in this beautiful area of Southern Portugal for more than 30 years, when I first discovered Portugal after travelling for severaly years in the Near and Middle East and North Africa.
Sitio das Laje is my home; It is a calm and peaceful place, surrounded by nature, whilst still being within walking distance of the ocean.
I have been involved with horses and dogs all my life and I still keep a couple of home bred horses. I also breed the wonderful Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs and there are a few at home who guard the property and look after us.
My two children have, since finishing school, moved to the UK, but still love to visit their home.
I love to meet new people and hear their interesting stories.
