Let yourself be seduced by the magic of this island.

Ponza, the pearl of the Pontine Islands, stretching for 41 km, with a myriad of historical and natural beauties: the Grottos of Pilate; the remains of ancient Roman aqueducts; the hill of the Madonna, on which stand the majestic ruins of a Roman Villa; the Greek hypogeic tomb in the area of Guarini and the Rocks of the Madonna.

The most popular beach on the island is the famous beach of “Chiaia di Luna”, protected by a high wall of rocks. The clear, clean sea completes the portrait of this island, perfect for your long term stays or for a relaxing weekend. You will also enjoy "snorkeling", fishing and swimming in natural Roman pools.

Information for your stay and House Rules

The „Painter’s House“was built in 1962 by my father, architect Mario Santovetti, also nicknamed by the locals as “ ’o pittore ‘ e Ponza“ (the painter of Ponza).
By the age of 60, during the 80s, my father started painting systematically and mainly pictured the astonishing beauty of this Island. On this terrace, he retreated himself and painted for hours. Most of this houses paintings are his and it’s our way (children and grandchildren) to pay homage to him.

In the „Painter’s House“, there has never been a TV and recently I also decided NOT to install WiFi, to give myself and our guests the opportunity to spend some precious moments far away from the usual routine, by getting a feeling of nature and the island’s rhythm.

Over the years, we were happy to welcome relatives, friends and travelers, which have stayed in this house, respecting the beauty, the peace and the things of this place; spending some magical moments here.

Rosa and her husband Angelo live in Ponza and take care of the house and your necessities if requested.

This is an Island – Be careful with the water consumption

The locals know quite well how precious and valuable water is. Since there is none on the island, it is regularly transported by tankers from the mainland, which you can see anchored under the Bourbon Tower.
Water is therefore to be used with a little attention – Do not waste it!
Your care is a valuable help for the whole area.

These small islands without own resources are very dependent on the mainland and the costs are much higher than usual (one KWatt in Ponza costs 3 times as much than in the rest of Italy, same for garbage disposal and food supply.)

External Shower
Behind the house there is a shower that everyone uses after a nice day in the sun spent discovering Ponza’s coves,. It is a great pleasure but do not forget that water has to be used with parsimony in Ponza. My father used to pin a sign at the shower, which unfortunately got lost, and it was written on it: „SHORT SHOWERS, AMEN!“

The plants around the terrace would be very happy if you occasionally water them during your stay. Use the water from the shower. We recommend putting a small basin close to you while you are taking a shower, so it will fill up with water and you can then use it for the plants. This is an old habit.
The plants are used to dryness so just a small amount of water is needed. This isn’t mandatory, only if you enjoy it!

The kitchen works with a gas cylinder, which is always full at your arrival.
In case it runs out during your stay, please call Rosa or Angelo, who will immediately replace it.

The Weather
We are in the south but sometimes the wind rises and although rarely it can rain.
Close the parasol during windy days and in the event of rain please bring all the pillows and things that may get wet inside the house.

Many people live around you. For the peacefulness of everyone, please keep your voice down on the terrace after 23.30.

Recycle and do differentiated collection!
Outside on the street you can find big garbage bins.
Please recycle and divide: paper, glass, plastic/metal and undifferentiated.
Before leaving the house, please throw away all your garbage.

For your stay, we provide bed sheets and blankets, tablecloths and towels for each of you.
If you need more, you can also use other towels placed in the cupboard.
The use of additional laundry will be charged an extra fee (see the housekeeping box below).

Mandatory Housekeeping and on request

Mandatory: I want to remember that the agreement for this stay includes a final housecleaning of 4 hours and laundry of 3 washing machines with each 5kg, which amounts to a total of 100€.
10€ per hour for housecleaning
20€ for every 5kg of laundry washed and dried.
The costs of the washing machine may seem high; though remember...water on the island is precious and therefore expensive. Moreover, Rosa takes care of it with washing, drying, ironing and folding.

On Request:
For the use of laundry in addition to the one supplied, will be charged an extra fee for the washing machine according to the consumption.

If you want, it is possible to ask Rosa for an extra housecleaning, laundry or ironing.
Talk directly with her and please pay her on the spot. (Rosa’s work fees are written above).

We are happy to find our home just the way we left it to you!
At your arrival, Rosa will take you through a little tour, she will show you where to find all the utensils and necessities. Verify if everything is in order and functioning.
Before your departure give back the keys to Rosa, check together if everything is in working order and pay the final cleaning as well as the washing machines.

In case of accidents or breaking of things during your stay PLEASE CALL ME IMMEDIATELY.
The full amount of security deposit will be only paid back if everything in the house is in working order as before your arrival.
For reciprocal protection please sign the attachment „Agreements for your stay“.

It is a safe island but....

It is always best to close the doors and put a lock on the windows while outside enjoying Ponza’s beaches, day- and nightlife.
Nothing ever happened, but for safety reasons it is always best to lock everything up!!

Last thing regarding safety: If you have kids, be careful at the banister and stairs.
We wish you nice holidays
