Quiet and beautiful. Country setting near town with easy access to Waimea Canyon and beach. Good location for hiking, beach and relaxing. Appreciative of good conversation, music and nature.

The Space

Private Bedroom with shared bathroom with a stunning view of Waimea Canyon. Lay in bed and look out the window at the stunning cliff;s of the world famous Waimea Canyon. This room has a real bed . Enter the room through the island style decorated main house with it's high vaulted ceilings, local artist touch and hardwood bamboo floors. The bathroom is beautifully decorated with custom bamboo wall paintings.

The room is part of a brand new 4 bedroom home with beautiful view of Waimea Canyon on the Island of Kauai. Waimea Canyon is called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific by Mark Twain. Our house sits near beautiful cliffs and you can walk across our property to sit by the Waimea River.

Our house sits on 1 acre and is located less than 3 miles from town, hiking kayaking, ocean beaches.

A beautiful modern kitchen is set up to accommodate those with healthy sensitivities. I am gluten free so our kitchen and pantry are managed to avoid cross contamination. I have a large spice collection and some basic gluten free/dairy free baking essentials on hand. If you do not have food allergy concerns we ask that you not bring foods containing gluten into the kitchen..

Our property has several producing papaya trees and our garden has tomatoes, kale, collards,, parsley, and occasionally other seasonal vegetables are available. Guests may eat the produce during their stay. Additional healthy produce can be purchased at near by farmers markets.

. Large common screened deck area has a hammock, swinging lounge chairs a ping pong and ladder ball. It is a great place to relax and look out over the garden view between the house and the river. The house and property have a lot of space. The rooms are large and the neighboring houses are not to close to our house.

Our beautifully decorated living room with it's vaulted ceilings and spacious layout with two a comfortable couches . WIFI is available for guest use.

There are beautiful walks from the property. You can walk to the river (1/4 mile) and to the beach (2 miles)

Most guests who visit the island rent a car. Our house is 1 an 3/4 miles from downtown Waimea. In town there is a bus stop which will get you to any town on the island. Bus fare is $2.

Waimea town has a theater, a historic tour, a technology center, small shops which sell local Hawaiian products and two grocery stores one which includes a fresh fish market and they also sell local beef. The famous Historic Hanapepe Art Night on Friday nights with its live music, artists and fresh food is only ten minutes away.

Many activities are available in the area including a boat tour of the Napali Coast, surfing, snorkeling kayaking, fishing, beach walking, helicopter tours, a downhill bike tour, zip lining, canyon hikes, scuba diving, and horseback riding.

Guest Access

Shared bathroom and shared gluten free kitchen, ping pong table, beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards, and a deck hammock.

Interaction with Guests

My husband and I work full time so our ability to socialize with our guests depends on what is going on with our work. We are very social and will sometimes invite our guests to play music, board games and pot luck with us. If we are busy with work please respect our need to not be social. If you want your own space and prefer not to socialize we will respect you as well. Let us know your preferences as we want you to enjoy your vacation.

The Neighborhood

quiet country setting.

one and 1 3/4 miles easy (flat) walking distance to public transportation. $2.00 bus fare around the island.

  • What a great place to stay on Kauai! Lots of space to relax and unwind, comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, and lots of things growing outside to eat. Banana trees, papaya trees, veggies growing in the garden, and also - friendly cats and dogs to greet you.

We picked this location for its proximity to Waimea Canyon, and it was great for exploring that area. Its a bit far removed from Kauai's north shore.

Sharon and Mitch are a friendly couple of humans, and they made us feel at home!

  • We stayed at Sharon's and Mitch place 3 nights. We loved the place - the room, the house and the location. It's nice to come home after a long day and stay with such a nice family.
If you are there, you should try the Acai Bowls at G's Juicebar in Waimea and join the Hanapepe art night.
We really had a great time and would definitly stay with Sharon and Mitch again.

  • Our stay with Sharon and Mitch was lovely. Their place is nestled in Waimea Canyon with foot access to a really great hike through the bottom of the canyon. They also spoiled us with plenty of bananas and papayas from their yard, beach towels and chairs, and were happy to provide recommendations as we needed them. They even made dinner for us one night - a delicious surprise. Sharon and Mitch are great hosts.

  • We had a great time in Mitch's and Sharon's house. The house is lovely with nice hammocks to chill. The family is really helpful in giving great suggestions were to go and what to do. They even borrowed us some beach equipment. We had some fun evenings with them and are curious to try out their suggested burger places in California! Thanks again for the great time.

  • Very good location if you plan to do some trails in the western part of the island.
Mitch and Sharon gave us some good advices about what we could do and see in this region. They also offered us to borrow surfboards.
The house is pretty well equipped.
It was definitely a pleasant and restful stay.

  • This stay was just perfect! Very comfortable bed/room, nice big kitchen, a ping pong table on the lanai. Sharon and Mitch were the best hosts, we talked a lot and they shared their fresh fruits and vegetables from the condo with us (soo fresh & delicious). They were also very helpfull with sharing their knowledge about the area and the island in general. Their roommate David was also very sympathetic. At the same time we felt like having a 100% privacy - whenever we wanted. We really felt like being at home! Hiking trails at walking distance from the house and up in the Waimea Canyon. Good access to beaches nearby. A car is a must have. When we come back we'll definitely stay at Sharons and Mitchs house again!!

    Mahalo nui lua for everything!

  • Maison très agréable, calme, proche de Waimea Canyon qui est vraiment magnifique. Hôtes accueillants, de bons conseils pour les choses à faire aux alentours. Cuisine très fonctionnelle. Merci !
Very nice place, quiet, close Waimea Canyon which is very nice.
Sharon and Micth are welcoming and kind. Thanks for everything !

  • We loved our time at this lovely home. It was comfortable and adequate for our needs. We especially enjoyed getting to know each of the people who were residing in this home, along with the other guests. The relaxed atmosphere is exactly what we were aiming for.
The area is residential with privacy. I loved the bed set up right to the window.
We didn't care for the morning chicken activity. Since they are wild though, and practically everywhere, I'm not sure what anyone could do about it. We enjoy the "local" feel and intentionally kept away from the resorts.
Sharon, thank you for opening your home! We were sorry to not get to meet Mitch. Perhaps someday? You should plan on some skiing here.
David, the "semi resident", Blessings to you! We were particularly blessed to have met you. Come and visit us someday in Boise, Idaho!

  • This is a good place for young travelers and surfers. The canyon view room is located in a large modest home with 4 bedrooms and 1 shared bath. It is close to the beach, mountains, and river. Because it is located near the river in the tropics expect bugs. Mitch welcomed us when we arrived and told us about places to hikes, visit, etc. Mitch kindly offered surfboards and boogie boards for us to use and had fresh picked fruit from the garden for us to enjoy. David (another resident) was super friendly and readily shared his information and knowledge with us. We enjoyed the dogs and cats.

About
Happily Married ( in photos with my husband Mitch and my grown children Megan, Alex and Chris Outdoors person. Hiking, surfing, swimming, biking College professor Christian Love books and reading Meeting people form other countries Learning new languages Gluten intolerant and can not eat wheat, barley or rye I eat healthy and try to stay in shape. I have put a room in my house in airbnb and here is what I like of my guests. I am also this kind of guest. I like a guest that wants to explore on their own. If time allows I like to hike with you. Frequently I am very busy so it is important that guests are independent and want to go and explore on their own. A guest at my house will be self directed. I have a full time career and will not be able to show you around. However I am very social and look forward to meeting you. Staying here will be similar to staying at a hostel in that you are self directed, make your own plans, do your own thing and clean up after yourself. The only exception is that the accommodations are nicer. My house is clean but, I do work full time so I keep my prices low and my rooms livable. If you like immaculate places where you are waited on, this is not the place for you.
