A warm, peaceful, art-filled antique cottage in a quiet neighborhood, with a semi-private beach & huge shady porch. Free parking, 2 blocks from bus (15 min bus to subway), 30-45 min from most of greater Boston by car or public transport.

The Space

The Be Village Headquarters blends a cabin in the woods, a cottage on the beach, & a cutting edge art gallery, and puts them right outside the city sights. It’s a peaceful respite if you love antique eclectic beauty, & are tolerant of imperfections in a 100-year-old house being lovingly restored.

Enjoy ocean views from the living room, walk 1/2 block to the semi-private beach, or stroll along the water. Read on the porch amidst shady trees and watch many frolicking squirrels & birds. It’s just outside Boston, near Quincy Center, w/good public transport, free parking, & 10 minutes' drive to the freeway – it feels like Boston and Cape Cod have combined together!

ROOM DETAILS: Adorable, but petite. A twin feather-bed on memory foam mattress, desk & chair, shelves & hooks, nightstand & mirror, lights & fan. 10'x10' & slightly rustic - not a lot of sound control between adjoining rooms due to wood walls. All in all, a charming bargain. This room holds 1 person. If you need a room for 2 persons, or, a second room, see Quirky arts&crafts by the sea, our other listing.

-----------------------------------------------------

CAVEATS: The yard is a nature preserve, and genteel summer camp-like-ness permeates all. Mysterious interior design ingredients regularly invade the dining room. Thrill to the excitement of semi- domesticated wildlife if you catch a glimpse of skunks, watch mating slugs, or if you're very lucky & a raccoon peeks in your window. Neighborhood is super safe, & very peaceful, but there may be the occasional random neighbor noise; house is peaceful & quiet, w/slight sound transmission via antique wood walls/beamed ceilings. Listing often not available without advance notice (2+ days).

Interaction with Guests

Hanging out or chatting from time to time with guests is fun - depending on our mutual moods & schedules. Mostly I’m pretty quiet but content. It's kind of a big house - many nooks & spaces, so several people can feel private, free & easy even while working or relaxing separately.

The Neighborhood

We have the best sky, the most relaxing beach, the most pleasant walks, and the best smelling fresh air in the Boston area, hands down.

Getting around

PUBLIC TRANSIT: 2 block walk to bus, 15 minute ride to Red Line subway (T) / Quincy Center (where there are also lots of restaurants & pubs. 5 minutes' bus in other direction to Hingham marina w/shops, restaurants, movies)

TOTAL TRAVEL TIME: approx. 45 minutes via rush hour driving OR mass transit to most areas of Boston including suburbs. The MBTA (mass transit) has a very thorough “how to get there” website, *** Please consult it or G. maps for travel times from “corner of Pilgrim Rd. & North St. in North Weymouth, MA” to your destinations before writing to ask me for transit info! *** I’d just be consulting the same websites or copy & pasting this paragraph, unless you have questions those sites can’t answer : )

  • I enjoyed my stay at Be's. Going to and from Boston is easy using public transportation. Be is very laid back. The house has interesting artwork. I would stay again if I come back to Boston.

    April 2014
  • Charming, delightful and very peaceful. Be is an easy, gracious, helpful host. Everything in her home is interesting and stylish. No stress, no fuss, no difficulty, just comfortable and easy.

    March 2014
  • Sweet little room- firm mattress, clean, good books for reading (if I'd had the time).

Very cool location and the house was engaging- lots of art/i/facts. The wrap-a-round porch looked appealing, even in the snow.

My stay was very brief and Be was out for the night, so I can't report much more. However, she graciously supplied coffee at a very early hour!

I would def. return- especially in warmer weather.

  • Bebe really helped me out for Thanksgiving! My oven was broken for the holiday and Bebe let me cook Thanksgiving dinner at her place. Stayed over the night before and had a wonderful time.

    November 2013
  • Be is a very generous host. Be was a great pick for me not only because her place was close to where I need to be, but she provided a great, relaxing atmosphere for me to rest up between acting classes. It is refreshing to meet a fellow creative kindred soul!

    November 2013
  • I was at Be’s for a few days while in the area. I found the house comfortable and the host very friendly. There were a number of good places to eat just a few minutes’ drive away, and the beach just a stone’s throw from her house was fantastic.

    August 2013
  • Be was a great host. The room was clean and cozy, exactly as advertised. The wrap around porch was a great place to read and write. And the beach was a few minutes walk away. It was a perfect fit for my needs.

    July 2013
  • Actual location is nice than advertised, Brenda is a great person to meet. I spent such a wonderful time here and already willing to go back soon.

    July 2013
  • The hostess was very pleasant and helpful as to making us comfortable and for helping us find our way around the local area. The environment is an old wooden house and is being repaired in stages and is a work in progress. Liberal minded adults would be very comfortable with this situation.

About
I'm an artist. My home's a giant gallery, and a summer camp for adults. Around here, there's an infinite amount of intriguing objects for you to peruse and ponder. There's also an infinite amount of work to be done - for me - to preserve & revive a hundred-year old, imperfect but beautiful wood “creature.” That makes sure some projects are always at the half-way point. I also have a business, so I work a Lot, mostly around here, usually on the laptop, & sometimes in pajamas. I'm kind of a hippy, and definitely an egalitarian humanist pinko leftycrat - but wait, there's more! - as founder of America's largest fake institute, the American Family Happily Institute, I can get you into the history books - guaranteed! (only if you wanna be) However, like most artists, I don't mix well with social conservatives (my artwork satirizes 'family values' think tanks). Hanging out or chatting from time to time with guests is fun - depending on our mutual moods & schedules. Mostly I’m pretty quiet but content. It's kind of a big house - many nooks & spaces, so several people can feel private, free & easy even while working or relaxing separately. I grew up in the hinterlands but have been here 23 years - happy to share suggestions or information about the city, or the joints to eat or hang out in right nearby. We’re located in a peaceful hidden spot surprisingly about a half hour from the heart of Boston. But there's also plenty of restaurants, and several types of 'things to do' - even actual nightlife - in about ten minutes' drive or 20 minutes biking. In walking distance, there’s the bus (to those things and to Boston and more), the beach, a long ocean walk, some woods, a convenience store, the post office, a pizza place, and peace… Je parle un peu de francais mais pas si vite, pas si bon!
