Looking for a cabin with character? Welcome to Pine Cone! Ours is an awesome A-frame with old-school wood paneling, a wood-burning fireplace, and original retro décor – cozy and funky, with all the modern comforts of home. In the heart of Sunnyside, it’s just five blocks to brunch and our private beach.
Leave your city-slicker granite counter tops at home – we have what’s important: our Saturday Supper dessert cabinet contains an ice cream maker, sundae bar, fondue, and of course s’mores. (And s’meeces, the Pine Cone S’mores 3.0) Plus of course everything else you need to make yourself at home: fully equipped kitchen, laundry, etc. etc.
The basics & bonuses: 3 bedrooms sleep 15 people. Dogs welcome! Wifi, printer, and standard office supplies included for you workerbees. Shampoo, toothpaste, hair dryer basics provided (though ironing board and such fancy big-city accouterments are not – this is Tahoe!). Deck, BBQ, beach blankets, board games, Xbox, DVDs, cookbook collection for your Saturday supper planning, beach books, a guitar, and more.
The beach: we'll give you a key to the private homeowners association beach, featuring volleyball, basketball, and horseshoe courts; green grass and shady benches; clean bathrooms (very important); weddings to crash all weekend long; and Tahoe’s finest skipping stones. (Forget how to skip rocks? You ARE in need of a getaway!)
The neighborhood: Sunnyside is hot for good reason! A few blocks from the docks, we’re the one spot on this side of the lake that’s walking distance from not one but two rockin’ brunch places. While removed from the mean streets (ha!) of Tahoe City, when you forget something at the grocery store we’re only 10 minutes down the road. South Lake has curling and all (message Colleen if you want to try), but it's Vegas compared to this: North Tahoe is casino-free pockets of quiet cabins from another era, with more dogs and kids littering the middle of the street than cars. Oh and it’s an easy 3.5hrs from SF, assuming you miss traffic and drive like we do.
The activities: you really plan more than brunch, beach & wine? Ambitious. Okay, fine: we’ve got the hook-up for that too. We’ll tell you where to rent a boat, find the good hikes, and hop the local watering holes. Look us up on the map and you’ll see: we’re close to biking, river rafting, sledding, skiing and snowboarding (Squaw, Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Homewood et al.), the Tahoe Rim Trail, and all that outdoorsy goodness. Plus when you get here, you’ll find our binder of local tips that could only be amassed by a family that’s been here 28 years.
Please note a 1-week minimum is required for Christmas and New Year's.
If you'd like to visit, please ensure you have a profile with picture and tell us a bit about the group that's coming and what you're hoping for in your stay.

From the very beginning, Colleen and the crew made sure we had everything squared away for our trip by giving us travel tips and lots of information about the surrounding area.
The cabin is quite amazing, and it really does sleep 15 people comfortably. When you add in the gorgeous surroundings, the great kitchen/living area, and the cozy fireplace, it's hard to think of anything more you could ask for.
The cabin is just a couple of miles from Tahoe City - so you get the best of both worlds. Peace and quiet, yet just a few minutes from all the attractions and ski areas.
We plan to make it an annual event to spend a week at Pine Cone. We can't recommend it highly enough.
The Buyers were wonderful to work with--my group really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was perfect and well-stocked with everything we needed and more (we loved the selection of movies!). The first night, one of the circuits went out and we lost electricity for the back of the cabin, but the Buyers were responsive when I called the next day and helped us to fix the problem. Would definitely recommend this cabin to others staying in North Tahoe.
This is a great Tahoe cabin. I communicated with Colleen for the setup, who was easy to talk to and quick to respond, even in a last minute situation. The actual place was well stocked and the attention to detail in the house instructions etc. was greatly appreciated. There were only four of us, but you could easily come up with a couple of families or a group of 8-10 or so and have enough space.
And they have a fondue maker. I mean come on.
Thanks Buyers fam for a great time and hopefully we'll be back again!
We had an amazing stay at Pine Cone! Towards the end of a foggy San Francisco summer all you want to do is get out of the city and find some sunshine. Tahoe is the perfect escape, and Pine Cone was the perfect place to stay for our group of friends. It has all the amenities you need to enjoy a relaxing stay in Tahoe. We enjoyed breakfasts on the front porch in the sun, hiking to 5 lakes, lounging on the private beach, swimming in the most gorgeous lake, and spotting tons of shooting stars at night. It is also wonderful that Pine Cone is dog friendly as we have a pup who loves being in the mountains. Pine Cone was cozy, cute, fun, and convenient and we would definitely return!
We had a wonderful extended weekend in Pine Cone the Awesome. We were two families with 4 little kids and it was the perfect house for a relaxed weekend. Janet, Colleen & Bob were wonderful hosts. We had all information needed (and more than that) some days before, the kitchen was way better equipped than ours at home. There was no need to buy things like oil, vinegar, spices, soap, bags, etc. - thank you for everything - we had a wonderful weekend with swimming, hiking and river rafting and will recommend pine cone to our friends.
Pine Cone was a perfect getaway for our group. The home is in a great area just above Sunnyside on the West Shore and is the ideal combination of 'relaxed' and 'nice'. We are a group of married 30-somethings who loved cooking in the kitchen, walking to the beach and bar and just enjoying each other's company. The home is clean and comfortable and has the feel (email hidden)d-in cabin, just the same as our families would keep themselves.
I cannot recommend Pine Cone more! This place is great and we can't wait to plan our next getaway for the winter or summer. Thanks for everything, Janet, Colleen and Bob!
I rented this amazing cabin last weekend with 2 other couples. We had such a great time at the pine cone cabin. The cabin has everything you need for a great stay in Lake Tahoe. It's only minutes walk to the private HOA beach, which is right next door to Sunnyside. Colleen was great in allowing us to extend our check out on Sunday so we could enjoy a couple more hours at the beach. I can't wait to book another weekend at the pine cabin.
