Our light-filled forest home has adventure just outside the front door--wildlife, a pond, hiking, biking. Gather with friends to cook a meal, soak under the stars in the hot tub, relax by the fire; it is peaceful & cozy at our big house in the woods.
Stay on 40 wooded acres in the national forest on the east slope of the Cascade Mountains--a tranquil setting just 3 miles from the little town of Sisters. Once you turn off the highway, you'll be leaving asphalt behind. Traveling through pine forest on gravel roads for 2 miles, you'll feel like you're far from the hustle and bustle of highways and towns. Our setting is rustic, but our house is contemporary, with amenities and furnishings that are a comfortable mix of vintage, modern, woodsy, and whimsical. This house is multi-level and offers 3 bedrooms; 2.5 bathrooms; a great room (living room, dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen); a game room with a pool, ping pong, darts, and an entertainment system (for DVD & VHS movie-watching only--no cable tv); a loft with an exercise gym and treadmill. The great room has hardwood floors and big windows that let in lots of light and forest views. A toasty fire in the custom stone fireplace will keep you cozy when it's cold outside. The living room has a flat screen with a blue-ray dvd player (no cable or broadcast tv). Outside, you can enjoy our fresh mountain air on three decks; soak under the stars in the hot tub; take a stroll to the pond and relax in the swing by the water's edge; or toss a frisbee around on the nice big lawn. Bike or hike, or sometimes ski, right off the property onto forest roads that connect to a large system of mountain bike and hiking trails. It's 3 miles to town,1.5 miles to beautiful Wychus Creek, and less than a mile to the Peterson Ridge trail system with its miles of single-track trails. Other amenities include a huge selection of books, movies, and games; lots of space, indoors and out; plenty of parking; and a friendly cat who stays mostly outside. Note: Due to our location in the woods by the mountains, the internet connection is a little slow and does not support streaming video.

Take good care of our home. Read the house manual all the way through. Have a great time!
Richard and Sandi both greeted us when we arrived and welcomed us to their property. The house is super fun, somewhat isolated, and convenient to downtown Sisters, nearby Bend, and a range of outdoor activities. We had a great time with a group of friends and look forward to going back there in the future.
If there were a score of ten stars this would have it!
There are no descriptions or photos that can really do this place justice!
We went for a family retreat and only thing that could have been better was for us to stay longer! I hope that we have a chance to do so again because we ALL agreed that we want to come back.
There was not a single stone left unturned by our hosts! They made everything so easy from getting a key and tour of the house, to closing the door to leave. If you have occasion to go to Sisters Oregon, this is where you should stay!
Everything from the location of the home to the open layout of the living space made this home perfect for our large group of friends. The hot tub was very nice as was the extremely peaceful acreage surrounding the home.
The hosts thought of everything, expertly predicting all our needs upon arrival. The house manual was well written and thorough. Even the kitchen was laid out with things exactly where you would expect them. And the gifts left for us made such a great touch.
My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!
I stayed in this house with 7 of my friends for New Year's Eve and my gosh was it great! It was very spacious and allowed for privacy while also having a very open living room and dining area for group activities and fun. We spent the days playing board games (of which they had many!), watching movies in front of the fireplace (they had plenty of firewood ready for us) and soaking in the hot tub (with the jets on full blast!). The kitchen was well equipped for our group meals and there were plenty of towels for everyone. The property feels huge and is very relaxing. If you are looking for a beautiful house away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, this is the place to be! Also, the hosts were able to meet my friends at the house for a tour even though we all got delayed by the snowy weather. Overall, this was a great experience!
We had a great stay at Sandi and Richard's home outside Sisters; a tranquil setting in the woods to celebrate Christmas with family. The great room with large kitchen and every tool/dish/pan we needed for making meals facilitated interacting with everyone and a roaring fire and large windows to the woods. We are experienced vacation home renters, so we appreciated that the owners prepared the house perfectly for us: personal items of the owners were clearly separated and everything was well organized and accessible, clean and in good shape.
We accessed the trails from the cabin for hikes, runs and drove just a few miles for a great hike along Wychus Creek. We had to drive further for snow this year, heading to Mt Bachelor for great XC and downhill skiing... the dry snow was a nice change.
Ended each day with a soak in the hot tub gazing at the pond...
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Big House in the Woods. The house was well equipped, comfortable and perfect for bringing our family together to share the Thanksgiving Holiday. Loved the Ping Pong table where everyone spent hours challenging each other. Walked in the woods, soaked in the hot tub and loved the quiet and beautiful surroundings. The cat ambassador, Zephyr, was a huge hit and probably got a year's worth of loving up by our cat crazy family.
The proximity to Sisters is perfect, but the house feels private and secluded. The family gave this location a thumbs up for another visit in the future. Thank you to Sandi and Richard.
We had a great time. Sandi and Richard met us at their home and gave us some tips of things to do around the area. We enjoyed time in the hot tub, playing ping pong, and hanging out with Zephyr (when he came around).
We have lived, played, worked, and raised our family for the past 25 years in this beautiful part of Oregon. We love the peaceful setting of our woodsy home. On a typical day off at home, we can be found soaking in the hot tub at sunrise, puttering around the house or garden, riding our mountain bikes off the property and onto the nearby trail system, enjoying microbrews and dinner on the deck, and listening to music by a cozy fire at night. Our children have moved away, so we make frequent visits to see them and enjoy city life--theater, great restaurants, museums, diversity, public transportation... Then we return home to our peaceful house in the woods, and appreciate it all over again. We really want to share what we have with others--the lovely setting in the woods, all the amenities, and the endless opportunities for fun and adventure just out the door.
