About This Listing
The house is my workplace as well as my home so it's functional rather than frilly. I run a small carpentry workshop and construction business on the western edge of the Snowdonia National Park. My son Tom, my partner Helen and I share with 2 friendly sheepdogs, Belle and Jess. There are 3 rooms available: 2 doubles and a twin, at £20 per person per night with the possibility of more space should it be needed (I'm happy to improvise for people on a budget) also, camping is a possibility in my adjoining field. I enjoy cooking and can provide simple meals if requested. There is a large dining kitchen and 2 comfortable sitting rooms, central heating and 2 multi-fuel stoves.
Right at the foot of the mountains, this is a wonderful place, either for active people such as walkers and climbers or for those who simply want to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Rock climbing is within walking distance at nearby Cwm Silyn and Cwm Dulyn, also at Tremadog, a 10 minute drive away. Most of the main Snowdonia crags are within a 30 minute drive. We are at the western end of the Nantlle ridge, a popular and highly recommended walk. Shorter walks around the village and nearby lakes start right outside the door. The village itself is at the end of the line, that is to say it's not on the way to anywhere so without through traffic it's very quiet and peaceful for those wishing to get away from it all.
I should also mention the historic Welsh castles, of which there are several nearby. Perhaps the best known is at the port town of Caernarfon which is also a world heritage site. The town's narrow streets also contain examples of Georgian architecture as well as pavement cafe's, pubs, restaurants and the Galeri theatre and venue. There are other fine castles at the attractive towns of Criccieth, Harlech and at Dolbadarn near Llanberis. For the archeologically inclined there are numerous sites locally including the Iron Age hilltop fort at Tre'r Ceiri, a pleasant walk and a superb viewpoint.
There are shops 2 miles away (Co-op and others), supermarkets in Caernarfon and Porthmadog, both about 10 miles away and a great pub/restaurant with excellent food 5 miles down the road. Although we're up on the mountain it's just a 15 minute drive to the nearest beach and there are plenty of others throughout the scenic Llyn peninsula, all within 30/60 minutes drive.
There are hourly buses to and from Caernarfon from the bus stop which is 50 metres away. For buses to Porthmadog and further south it's a 15 minute walk to the main road. Nearest railway stations are at Bangor, 20 miles north and Porthmadog, 10 miles south.
This is something of a neglected yet beautiful and tranquil corner of the National Park (If you want to join the crowds go to Llanberis!) That's what makes the place unique and is my reason for living here.
Do pretty much what you like as long as it's with consideration and respect for others.
We had a great stay with Peter. Nice location out in the countryside for exploring and seeing Wales, and close to Caernarfon to see the Castle. House was basic, and we had everything we needed. Peter was warm and welcoming. Wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks Peter.
Our stay with Peter was exactly what we needed. His home is under some construction, but it feels like home. Peter was super helpful and very accommodating. He let us use the washing facilities and shared his local knowledge. His house is tucked away in the hills, in a lovely part of the world. Highly recommend.
The reservation was canceled 21 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
This is a great place to stay, especially if you plan to explore Snowdon.
Very friendly welcome, Peter was a great host and really nice guy.
Really peaceful area, great location for Caernarfon, Porthmadog and Snowdon.
Nice accomodation, good facilities would definitely recommend.
A very friendly welcome with offers of help particularly with my luggage but also with local directions.
I would recommend the accommodation which is simple but very comfortable having all that a tourist would need. Peter's hospitality to anyone with dogs and wanting to be near Snowdonia. is second to none.
The house looks a bit worse than in pictures, it is still under construction in some areas. But bed was very comfortable and we had very good sleep. Everything is tidy. Pete was very nice and helpful. And we enjoyed playing with dog Belle.
Very nice host. We arrived very late, Pete was very patient and waited for us for a longtime. The house is great, the view is beautiful. Strongly recommend it！

About the Host, Peter
I came to beautiful North Wales almost 30 years ago to walk and climb and I'm still doing it. I run a small carpentry and building business from home which I share with my son and Belle and Jess, our 2 sheepdogs.
